My Silent Chatterbox

Maggie’s teachers have asked us – more than once – if Maggie speaks at home. You’re kidding me, right? We can’t get her to stop talking. Or singing. Or just babbling.

Apparently, she speaks not a word at school. Not a single one. If she wants something she grunts for it (oy). I asked Mrs. Teacher if she was telling Maggie to use her words…(silly question, I know.)

One afternoon Mrs. Teacher told me that they witnessed Maggie going into one of the play structures they have outside and then babbling away. When she came back out, she was completely silent again.

And she only told me this story after showing surprise (“She does talk!”) when Maggie answered my question of who was in the picture she was coloring (Cookie Monster).

The people at church asked us if she ever speaks as well…

I’m baffled.

BREAKING NEWS!!!

I just got a text from Mike:

Logan stood by himself and took a step toward me!:)

How cool is that?! And how neat for Mike that he was there for this first. 🙂

Which brings up the typical question that people ask me: does it bother me that I miss a lot of “firsts” because I work full-time.

Honestly? Not really. I mean, there’s a little pang of “dang – I wish it happened when I was there!” …but my feeling is that he’ll do it again around me and it will still be MY first. And I’m still super excited that it happened at all!

I’m actually surprised at how many firsts I HAVE seen (of all 3 kids). Of course, they may have still been just my firsts with them if the nanny or whoever else neglected to let me know that they’d done whatever it was before…but like I said – it’s exciting when you see it for the first time no matter if it’s the kid’s first time or not 🙂

I can’t wait to get home to “try him out” LOL

Man…

I knew I’d forget one! I totally forgot that I saw Damn Yankees/Bad Company in concert! I’ve updated that post

———-

Heard through the monitor at 6:45 this morning

Burke: It’s morning time!

Maggie: No! It’s night time!

(Burke won…they woke up and played with their Cars cars for a while.)

Music To My Ears

I thought it would be fun to write down the concerts I’ve been to. You can gasp in awe, laugh your butt off, or nod in a “oh ya, I did that” kind of way … but just know that I really enjoyed each one – at least at the time I went. 😉

  1. Joan Baez. This is totally because of my Mom. She brought us to some big fair grounds in Vermont when I was pretty little…I remember hearing some songs I knew. And that I got a free Seagram’s 7 t-shirt before I even know what it was. (I believe I was in grade school).
  2. New Kids on the Block. Yep… I was in Junior High and loved, loved, loved them. Not sure I’d attend one now – but man, what memories 🙂 Went with my teeny bopper friends and we even spent the night in a hotel room.
  3. Damn Yankees/Bad Company. These two bands toured together when I was in high school. I fell in love with Bad Company that night. Damn Yankees was just too loud…like, loud enough that it was hard to hear them at all. Went with a bunch of high school friends; we were in a tiny auditorium in Vermont.
  4. Billy Joel. I was in college and took a road trip with my roommate. He’s such a great pianist!!
  5. Elton John. Same thing as Billy Joel. It wasn’t the tour that they did together though. Another great pianist!
  6. The Connels. Tiny little bar in Vermont. GREAT show!! I went with my best friend Karen.
  7. 2003 WBOS Earthfest – pouring down rain. We got *drenched*
    • Sheryl Crow. She was the headliner and she absolutely rocked!
    • Alice Peacock. I had no idea who she was at the time.
    • Big Head Todd and The Monsters. Mike used to see these guys in college bars. I’d never heard of them.
    • Peter Wolf. One word: OLD.
    • Nickel Creek. We had no idea who they were, but walked away with their Smoothie song stuck in our heads.
    • Sister Hazel. I enjoyed them more than I liked Sheryl Crow! We got into line to have a CD autographed after the show. I even got to talk with them!!
  8. 2004 WBOS Earthfest- beautiful day, we got pretty good seats. But thank goodness not THAT good because one of the many-foot high speakers fell into the audience right before Third Eye Blind played. Talk about scary. My sister Cathy and her boyfriend at the time (Jon) went with us.
    • Peter Wolf. See 2003.
    • Los Lonely Boys. OMG – these guys put on a MAJOR show. We couldn’t stop talking about them for weeks. If you ever get the chance to see them – they do amazing things with the guitar.
    • Third Eye Blind. Do I really need to say anything here? These guys are great.
    • Edie Brickell. Holy shy…but I love her voice.
  9. Neil Diamond. Another guy who really knows how to move. He’s still got it 🙂 I went with my sister Sharon (we grew up on Neil – thanks Mom!), and we were dancing in our seats.
  10. 2007 WBOS Earthfest- I have to admit, I don’t remember a lot of this…or even who we actually saw. We had the kids with us and they just wanted to run around and around. My sister Sharon, her husband, and their son went with us.
    • Guster. All I remember is that my little sister Meghan was incredibly jealous that we were going to see these guys…and we may have actually left before they started.
    • KT Tunstall. I do remember hearing her two songs that were popular at the time…
    • Mat Kearney. Still not sure I know who this guy is.
    • the John Butler Trio. Or these guys.
    • Vega4. Ditto
    • Grace Potter and the Nocturnals. And again. (told you I wasn’t paying a lot of attention.)
  11. Great Big Sea.  I was pregnant with Logan and got VERY tired. But I enjoyed every minute. 🙂
  12. Great Big Sea (again). You saw my post about this one. We went with our friends Callum and Sharon.

Unfortunately, WBOS changed their format. They still have the free Earthfest concerts, but they just aren’t they same.

Dang. I’ve seen more than I thought! Not a huge number by any means, but go me 🙂 I wonder if I’ve forgotten anyone.

What’s your list? If you put one up on your blog – let me know! (Pssst…easy/fun NaBlo post…)

We Want To See You Too

I was driving into work the other day – in the rain – and noticed that about half the cars around me didn’t have their headlights on. Now, I have to wonder what’s going on inside the heads of these people. When it’s dark out, and you’re driving – you turn your lights on. Right? When it’s raining out…it’s USUALLY dark out as well, so why are you not bothering to turn your lights on at this point?

Also…many states have the windshield wiper/lights law. If your wipers are on, your lights need to be as well. Not sure why it’s a LAW as this should be common sense – but that’s not the point.

Not only are you preventing others from seeing you, but you’re possibly breaking a law!

I used to drive a Bug – it had daytime running lamps, so I got used to it and now my lights are always on – unless Mike has turned them off (as is his habit) and I haven’t realized it. I figure if some of the newer cars have this implemented, there must be some research out there somewhere that it’s safer…who am I to argue?

Anyway  – back to my original point. Turn your lights on in the rain so I can see you!!

Friday’s Foto Finish Fiesta

Candid Carrie sponsors this one – head over to her blog and find LOTS of links for bloggers who’ve joined in! (You can join in too!)

When I first got my camera, it came with some snazzy software. I was able to make cartoons and coloring books out of my photos! Perhaps I should re-load the software onto my “new” laptop and do some cool things again…

Mommy “Dating”

The Boston Globe just put an article out about the Perils of Mommy Dating. Go ahead and read it…I’ll wait until you get back. 🙂

.

.

.

So, what’d you think?

It basically states that being a mom trying to meet other moms is as nerve wracking as when you were single trying to meet a guy. I couldn’t agree more!! Of course, with my twins club, we have a similar “online dating” club as the one mentioned in the article. And with my blog, I’ve found more “like minds” – so that’s cool.

But … I totally get the being nervous at the school drop-off and pick-up. I’m always looking around and thinking “Man. They’ve got it so together…here I am in my baseball cap again because I just couldn’t fit the shower in BEFORE I dropped these guys off. *sigh* ”

And THEN I remember the few times I was sitting at Burke’s Speech class and the mommies with baseball caps came in to pick their kids up. At that time I thought “Man. She probably just came from the gym…she’s got it so together.” But…what if she was just like me and didn’t get her shower in before picking up her kids? Blows the mind 🙂

My Dream Machine

I want a front loading washer that is also a dryer. One machine.

Seriously – how hard would it be to make this washing/drying machine? They already have front-loading washers. There’s already a mechanism to “block” the holes in it so that it gets filled with water; the same type of thing can be used for the drying cycle. Or make it so that the whole drum rotates … water through the holes for the washing cycle – CLICK: drum rotated – air through the holes for the drying cycle.

I want to be able to set both cycles from the beginning…including if I don’t want to dry the clothes at all…or if I want the machine to pause and wait for me to say “okay – go” for the drying cycle (you know, if there are bras and such that need to be taken out and hung up first).

Now, I know you may be thinking, “But, you dry a load while the next load is washing…it’ll take longer if it’s the same machine.” I’ve thought about this…and it actually won’t be – at least for me. For the number of hours I forget about the laundry and it just sits there, this machine will make up for that. And no more laundry sitting in the washer – wet – overnight!

Or…get two “Clothes Clean” machines (see? I’ve already named it!) to replace the two (washer/dryer) you’ve already got – the space is already there – and you’ll get it done even faster than you could have before. 🙂

Now…who’s going to make this for me?

****EDIT**** Snick just let me know that they *DO* make these! Who knew?? Here’s the link she provided: http://www.lgwasherdryer.com/combos/wm3431hw.htm Anybody use one of these? Have they improved since she used one in Europe?  Thanks Snick!!
