Tick, Tick, Tick…

Boom.

Maggie picked up a tick – attached to the upper fold of her ear!! – while we were in Vermont for Easter. Ah, the joys of a Sunrise Service on a beautiful hill-top that is also a cow field 😉

So…that was Sunday morning. However, she didn’t mention anything about her ear hurting until MONDAY morning. And that was only to let me know that tucking her hair behind her ear hurt a bit. I looked quickly and at first glance it looked like she had a few scratches in her ear…until I realized that it was LEGS. (barf!!!)

Ya. “Uhm, Mike!!! I NEEEEED YOU!!!” Thank God he hadn’t left for work yet!

We were able to remove the body (SO.GROSS.), but the head was clearly staying put. Yep – Maggie stayed home from school because I was *SURE* the doctor would want to see her. Of course, I couldn’t get a hold of Dr. Pedi until we were already on our way to a different doctor for Logan (Dr. Neck for the nodules in his throat. What? I haven’t mentioned this before? Hm. Next post, I guess). Dr. Pedi didn’t need to see Maggie. I could have sent her to school. HRM. They just need us to watch her for the next 30 days and see if she shows any signs of…well…anything.

So…Tuesday morning, Maggie wakes up and is coughing (not unusual – we ALL are). But she’s coughing so much that she makes herself sick. And at that point I was 99% sure that it’s ONLY because she’d been coughing. (She didn’t even cough for the rest of the day!!) Day 2 of no school for Maggie. OY!

Wednesday went by without a hitch…until bed time. Maggie starts complaining that her arms are itchy. Cue the panic in mom…as a rash is one of the things we’re supposed to be looking for!! Anyway, pretty sure it’s just dry skin, but we’re obviously keeping a close eye on it.

Fingers crossed that it’s nothing!!

Bridging to Brownies

Maggie is officially a Brownie! She has such wonderful scout leaders. They’ve been with the troop for 2 years now and are going to continue with it next year as well. I’ve been so impressed with how much they’ve been able to accomplish!

Anyway – it was a sweet ceremony. 🙂

Sorry it’s so blurry – pretty sure Maggie RAN across the bridge 😉

Last Day of School!

Today was the last day of 1st Grade for Burke and Maggie. We didn’t miss the bus AT ALL this year! WOOT!! (There were definitely some close calls though…I’m sure the whole neighborhood has heard me yell, “Bus is at the top – RUUUUN!!” (Our bus stops at the top of our street, goes one street more and heads down that one and then cuts back to stop at the bottom of our street. We chose to use the bottom bus stop – less traffic.)

Goofball

Game Ball

On Thursday, Burke had his 3rd little league game. MAN the kid is good!!

He was up to bat 4 times…and made it onto base (with a legitimate hit) all 4 times…and made it home all 4 times!!

On top of that, he made a fantastic catch at Short Stop. Fly ball that was *almost* over his head – he caught it and fell back on his butt. All the parents around me were like, “Woah! Who was that? Derrick?” And before I could even think about it, I blurted out, “That’s Burke!! That’s MY kid!” Ya. I swore I’d never say those words LOL! The very next play came to Burke at Short Stop again. This time a ground ball – which he fielded perfectly…and then tossed it over to the 3rd baseman – who caught it – for the out!

At the end of the game, Coach B called all of the boys to the bench to chat about when the next practice was and then ceremoniously handed Burke the Game Ball. Oh man, you should have seen Burke’s FACE!! It was awesome. Coach B spoke about what an incredible game Burke had – and all the other boys agreed and cheered.

Oh, and that was the first Game Ball to be given out…and the only one to be given out so far. (And yes, there has been a game since then.)

I’m so proud 🙂

Dear Santa

Maggie wrote a letter to Santa…asking for him to send an Elf on the Shelf.

Burke doesn’t want one (he’s afraid 😉 )

It reads:

Dear Sata (Santa),

My name is Maggie.

Sata can I and my faly (family) have a Elf on the Shelf thenk (thank) you.

Fall Soccer

Burke and Maggie have started soccer again. I can’t believe how far they’ve both come. There’s still a HUGE difference between the boys games and the girls games…but they’re both fun to watch. 🙂

Makes My Monday: Father’s Day Fishing Trip

Our church sponsors a Father/Son fishing trip every Father’s Day. Burke and Mike went last year, but they didn’t get any pictures. This year, one of the guys actually brought a camera…and good thing, because Burke caught a fish!!

When I am 100 Years Old…

Maggie’s teacher does these exercises during class and then puts all of the papers into a binder and sends the “book” home for parents and kids to read together. They request “fan mail” to be sent back with the book.

I’d heard about this book LONG before it reached my house. Every parent I came across mentioned it…thank goodness…so I was well prepared for Maggie’s entry:

Typical entries were “I will play with my toys” or “I will be working and making lots of money” … I’m kind of glad that Maggie isn’t typical. If you can’t read it, she wrote, “I will get married to Charlie”

Dance Picture Day!

Today was picture day at Maggie’s Dance class. She’s dressed in her outfit for the recital that is on Saturday.

Maggie’s in the 1st row, 2nd from the right.

Way Back When-esday

Cheryl over at Twinfatuation hosts this one. Go on over to see who else is playing – and join in too!

This picture was taken on May 6, 2005. Burke and Maggie were just over 4 months old. (And DANG was it hard to get them both to smile at the same time!! Burke – not a problem. Maggie? Yikes. 😉 )
