Makes My Monday: Father’s Day Fishing Trip

Our church sponsors a Father/Son fishing trip every Father’s Day. Burke and Mike went last year, but they didn’t get any pictures. This year, one of the guys actually brought a camera…and good thing, because Burke caught a fish!!

I Can’t Believe…

…Mike is at the Red Sox game tonight. Yes. You read that right. The Indians fan is at the Sox game. (One of *two* games he’ll head to this year without me!!)

I mean, I can be happy for him (he’s got terrific seats), but sheesh – seems kinda wrong that the Sox fan is at home while the Indians fan is at Fenway. 😉

Makes My Monday: Feeling Sappy

I’m not one for Valentine’s Day. I think it’s a crappy holiday designed to put undo pressure on a lot of couples and undo sadness on those who aren’t in a couple but want to be.

I like the idea of celebrating your loved one (or loved ones if you include your kids in the celebration); but shouldn’t you be celebrating your loved one every day? I’m not saying go out and get a card or buy candy and flowers for your loved ones every day – but definitely make them feel loved every day!!

Alright, now that I sound like the Scrooge of Valentine’s Day…let me just say, that I can also sit back and reflect on what a wonderful guy I have. And how incredibly lucky I am to have found him! (And even more lucky that I haven’t scared him away yet 😉 )  And I’m glad to have a day to devote to him …and to let him know how I feel. (BUT – I still hope I make him feel like that every day…not just today.)

Happy Valentine’s Day, Mike! I love you – today and every day. 🙂

Makes My Monday: Quality Time

The past few weeks have been crazy at our house. With the start of school, a whole bunch of things have also started up and it seems as if everything is happening at the same time. For example, the evening schedule at our house last week and this week looked like this:

  • Monday 20th: BOTH home!! (Thank goodness – because that was our anniversary)
  • Tuesday: Mike showing the ropes to his replacement for his old job
  • Wednesday: Nancy at a MMOTA State meeting
  • Thursday: Mike teaching
  • Friday: Nancy at the MMOTA Sale setup
  • Saturday: BOTH HOME!!
  • Sunday: Nancy at a Church Women’s Group meeting
  • Monday 27th: Nancy To Logan’s School PTO meeting*
  • Tuesday: Mike helping replacement
  • Wednesday: Nancy at MMOTA Meet the Officer’s Dinner
  • Thursday: Mike helping replacement
AND Nancy at Open House for Burke and Maggie’s school

Not a lot of Mike and Nancy time there 😦

* So…I decided that I’m blowing off tonight’s PTO meeting. (Mike doesn’t get home in time for me to get there in a timely fashion, and I’ve already asked him to come home early enough times…) Plus, I’ve been helping out the PTO for that school for 2 years now – I don’t need to go to the meeting to have them know who I am and know that I can help out. I only feel slightly guilty that it’s one of Logan’s things that I’m blowing off…but he’s not directly impacted, so I’m forcing myself to get over it 😉

Blowing off a meeting that won’t make me feel too guilty so I can spend more time with Mike totally Makes My Monday.

Makes My Monday: Seven Years Sneaking Up On Us

Today marks my 7 year wedding anniversary. Seven years. Seven Years!

It’s so cliche to say that it seems like just yesterday that we met – while at the same time, it feels like we’ve known each other for much, much longer…but that’s really the only way I know how to describe it. The comfort level doesn’t seem to be proportional for how ‘new’ everything still feels. We have the excitement of how a new relationship feels mixed with the comfort level of old farts who have been married for 60 years. 🙂 Although, that’s really how it’s always felt!

Funny story though…I looked at the calendar Saturday night and said, “Yikes! We have to celebrate on Monday!” …to which Mike said, “Celebrate what?” LOL! It totally snuck up on both of us 🙂

Happy Anniversary, Mike. I’m still bat-shit crazy in love with you! 🙂

Friday’s Fotos: Tie Dye, Clubhouse, a Garden, and a Handsome Guy

This week was packed full!

Nanny Jessica did some tie dye shirts with the kids. They came out great!

Logan's Tie Dye (he's sick and not available to model it)

Grandpa, Nana, and Aunt Meghan came to see Burke and Maggie graduate yesterday. Maggie loves having a pixie-sized Nana (read: under 5 feet) to fit in the clubhouse 😉

We put our second garden in! Square Foot style: Artichokes, Asparagus, Onions, Potatoes, Carrots, Cucumbers, Cantaloupe, Melon, Peas, Green Beans, Yellow Beans, Lima Beans, Brussels Sprouts, Strawberries, Peppers, Tomatoes, Broccoli, Dill, Sage, Thyme, and Basil. *phew* (The frame is by Frame It All)

And last but not least, Mike had the opportunity to dress up this week. The man cleans up nicely!!

My Handsome Husband

Good Night Routines

Our typical bed time routine is Burke and Maggie go into their room with Daddy for a good night story (usually a made up story that involves Lightnin’ McQueen, Cinderella, a castle, someone needing help and Maggie, Burke, and Logan saving the day. Throw in a wizard, tunnels through the mountains that get you anywhere you want to go just by walking for 5 minutes, a flying – and talking – bathtub, and various other things I can’t even begin to keep track of and you’ve got quite the story each night. Perhaps I’ll have him start to write some down…)

While that’s going on, I’m in Logan’s room with him trying to decide if he wants the Good Night Song, Twinkle Twinkle, or – most recently – the “Bear song.” (Ya…funny story. While Ms. Speech was here one day, she was asking about how his speech group was going and asking if he sang this song or that song…he answered “yes” to all of the ones she asked. She looked at me as if to say, “Is he just going to say ‘yes’ to everything?” so I asked, “Logan, did you sing the Bear song?” just to see what he’d say. He looked at me and said “no….” but then asked for the Bear song that night for a bed time song. Luckily, I could remember some words to The Teddy Bear Picnic, and that seemed to suffice.)

Then Logan tries to figure out if he wants to sleep in his bed or on the floor. (He hasn’t requested the rocking chair much since that one time I found him up-side-down.) More and more he heads for his bed. WOOT!

Then I go in to Burke and Maggie’s room to sing the Good Night Song and recently, Burke’s been requesting that I stay to sing the Lullaby song as well. Leave it to Mike to make up words to Brahms’ Lullaby (Lullaby and Good Night):

Lullaby and Good Night,
Go to sleep Burke and Maggie.
Mommy loves you,
Daddy loves you,
And Logan do-es too.

Lullaby and Good Night,
Go to sleep Burke and Maggie.
Mommy loves you,
Daddy loves you,
And Logan do-es too.

You’re honest and kind,
And you work very hard.
You’re handsome and pretty,
And both brave and smart.

(And then Burke added: And pretty cute.)

On my way out the door I hear “Good night! I love you! See you in the morning! Sleep well! I’ll love you forever!”

Makes My Monday: Community Service

Mike signed up to help with some community service through our church. They were supposed to have one day of going out into the community and helping some of the older folks of our congregation with outside cleanup. Unfortunately, the weather that day was terrible. Fortunately, there is a woman who needs help on our street. Double fortunately, that means that Mike can pass along the good-deed-doing-gene to the kids because they can go along with him and see what helping others is all about!

Makes My Monday: The Digest

The fact that Reader’s Digest magically shows up on my Kindle each month (for a small fee) totally Makes My Monday.

Oh…and the need for a flower sticker on my Kindle so Mike knows it’s not his…THAT makes my Monday as well 🙂 (yep – we’re a 2 Kindle household now!)
