Saturday Snapshot: New House

I pulled out a new house to color today…the old one (bought in August and still going strong) doesn’t have a lot of white space anymore! (I think we’re starting a little community πŸ˜‰ )

Cheryl over at Twinfatuation hosts this one. Go over and have a look at what others are doing on this sunny Saturday.

“Zimmers Are Strong!”

I was chatting with Maggie’s teacher about how she’s been working with Ms. Speech on her words and pronunciations. Mrs. Teacher told me that she had had a realization about Maggie. She figured out that if Maggie wants something, Mrs. Teacher has to ask her to slow down and then pay close attention (not the typical do-a-million-things-while-half-listening-to-what-your-kids-are-trying-to-tell-you thing…)

Their conversation? Maggie told Mrs. Teacher that Zimmers are strong (and made a muscle) LOL! (I wish I had a picture of that…)

I think Mike works on that with them heh

The thing is, Zimmers ARE strong…willed, anyway πŸ˜‰ No, no, really…Logan was spinning the Sit-n-Spin around … with both him and Burke on it. Scrappy little bugger. πŸ™‚

(41 seconds)

And the pictures to go along with it…

Spoiled?

I’ve been asking myself a lot lately if kids can BE spoiled without ACTING spoiled.

I’m pretty sure our kids are spoiled. Do they get everything they ask for? No. But they’re definitely not really wanting for anything. And if they ask for little things that I can accommodate, like chocolate milk, I’m a big push-over and will more than likely get some for them. (Just did that yesterday, in fact.)

Burke and Maggie were also the first grandkids on my side…so that might tell you something about the number of toys we have in our house. Oh, and just as we were ready to get rid of a whole bunch of toys, Logan came along…so we pretty much have every single toy they’ve all ever gotten spread out in our living room. (I really need to do something about that!!)

BUT…my kids are GOOD kids. Do they act like 5-year-olds and a 2-year-old? Absolutely. But we take them out for dinner and actually have a pleasant time. They can sit through a church service and not make a scene (Burke actually sits through the entire service every week – he doesn’t like Sunday School at the moment).Β  Their teachers have all commented on how good they are and how much they enjoy having them in their class – out of the blue, even! They say “please” (sometimes without prompting, even πŸ˜‰ ) and “Thank you” and they’re learning more about how to be polite kids every day. (We’re currently working on the no-interrupting-when-I’m-talking-with-another-grown-up thing.)

…So, I guess the answer to my question is “yes, kids CAN be spoiled without acting spoiled.” You just have to beat ’em down when they start πŸ˜‰

Way Back When-esday

This one is from February of 2006. The twins had just gotten their quilts from Nana (or maybe I’d just gotten around to photographing them..? That’s probably more likely since they received them when they got baptized.)

Blog Farts

Blog Farts – noun. Def: Crappy ideas that are too short to make a real blog post, but when combined, join forces to make one unified, albeit half a$$ed, post. see also: memes, surveys.

(If you follow me on Twitter or FB, you’ve probably seen a bunch of these before. I figure if I get β€˜em here, they’ll eventually end up in my Blog Book.)

It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these posts….

Sometimes…the image in my head is so vivid I have to remind myself that I read it in a book rather than watched it on a show…

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Texting is unhealthy for my thumb nails.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Maggie’s wishing star wish the other night: “I wish for everything to stay magical.” Me too, sweetie. Me too.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Last request of the night from Maggie: “Daddy, can you pick me my good dream, please?”

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Saw the license plate “SBD” …wonder if the owner is gassy.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

I hate it when I spend over $100 at the grocery store and neglect to pick anything up for dinner *tonight*

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Burke woke up a few mornings ago and said before anything else “The trees have eyebrows!” And then said it’s what he saw when his eyes were closed.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Burke is trying to convince me that we bought him (and Maggie) at the Hospital.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Walked in to Dunkin Donuts with Burke. He said, “It smells WONDERFUL in here!” Indeed. (Made the guy behind us giggle a little…)

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

I hate it when my head feels like I have a hat on…I keep checking. There isn’t one there. WTH??

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Every time I see a Rotor Rooter van I want to stop and see if it’s Jason and Grant. All Rotor Rooter workers are Ghost Hunters, right?

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Must remember that “Play Dough Die” in Logan speak means “Little Star.” As in … sing Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star to me, Mommy!

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Conversations from the other morning

Me to Mike: “Bye, Honey! Have a great day!”
Logan to Mike: “Bye, Honey!”

LOL!

I think closet junk food eaters aren’t that way for the reason you’d think. We’re not embarrassed, we just don’t want to share.

Makes My Monday: First Crush

I was watching Disney’s Atlantis with the kids yesterday. Maggie had borrowed the book from their school library … which reminded me that we had the movie. They’d seen it before, but it’s been over a year, so they didn’t remember it at all.

When the main character, Kida, first came on screen, Burke whispered, “She’s BEAUTIFUL!”

And then asked me why she wasn’t wearing any clothes.

Trying to think quickly…I said, “Kida lives in a very hot climate, so she doesn’t need to wear much.”

He then proclaimed Atlantis to be the best movie EVER.

The pure innocence and wonder in Burke’s voice totally Makes My Monday.

Baby Picture Sundays

This week’s theme is My Reason to Breathe is You. As usual, I’m going to take this literally πŸ˜‰

Last year at this time, Logan had a cold (that was not quite pneumonia) and was having trouble breathing. HIS reason for breathing well was this:

Thank goodness we haven’t had to pull that thing out this year! (*knock wood*)

Saturday Snapshot: Cheesy Good Times

Chuck E. Cheesy that is! A good friend introduced us to the world of Chuck E. Cheese today. No, I’d never been before…no, Mike had never been before…no, my kids had never been before. To say that they had a blast is an understatement. And the fact that I could play Skee ball totally made my day πŸ™‚ (Just don’t go for the food. Seriously.)

Friday’s Fotos: Crazy Clothes Day

Yesterday was Crazy Clothes Day at school for Burke and Maggie. They both had a lot of fun with it πŸ™‚

Book Review: The Given Day

I read The Given Day by Dennis Lehane for my book club.

I think, if this hadn’t been for a book club, I might have put it down a few times and never picked it up again. It was really cool to read about some of the history of Boston and the way Lehane wove personal lives into what happened way back when – even with someone famous like Babe Ruth. (Funny story about that…more later). It would be neat to do a little research to see if indeed Ruth was in a slump at the time period…no way to know if the reason he was in the slump was what was written in the book, but my guess is that the slump actually happened.

When I first started reading it, I was intrigued by one of the main characters (Danny) and not the other (Luther). And then about 1/2 way through, it flipped and I was bored with the first character and more interested in Luther. There were scenes that made my stomach turn though, and that’s not normally the type of book I enjoy.

I was definitely entertained, but I don’t think I’d recommend this book to just anyone. It was brutal.

So…funny story. I was reading along and BOOM there’s a chapter about Babe Ruth. And I’m thinking to myself, “Geez, that was out of nowhere. Why’s this guy all of a sudden writing about Babe??” Turns out that since I read it on my Kindle, and the publishers decide where you start when you download a book…I MISSED the entire first chapter!! (It was a prologue of maybe 15 pages that totally ties in a whole part of the story!)
