Mature Taste Buds?

I ran across some Fun Dip yesterday – on sale because they were Valentines Day cards – and snapped them up because my memory of Fun Dip is a good one. Actually…I don’t really like the “dip” part much, but I remembered *loving* those sticks. You know what I’m talking about … it came in a three-pouch design with a stick on each end. I think the flavors were grape, cherry, and … lime? I remember racing to get through the packs with just one stick just so I could enjoy the second stick without the extra sugar.

Guess what? Either they’ve changed the recipe for those sticks, or *gasp* my taste buds have matured.

I suppose I should come to terms with it. A few years ago I got really excited to have some Beefaroni with my kids. Do you know how much I looked forward to that? Do you know how disgusting it really is??

And Fluff. I wanted a Fluffernutter … but … ya, you know the rest. Blech.

AND! AND! To make matters worse?? I actually like tomatoes now. What the heck??

Makes My Monday: The Digest

The fact that Reader’s Digest magically shows up on my Kindle each month (for a small fee) totally Makes My Monday.

Oh…and the need for a flower sticker on my Kindle so Mike knows it’s not his…THAT makes my Monday as well 🙂 (yep – we’re a 2 Kindle household now!)

Cheryl over at Twinfatuation hosts this one. Head on over to see what else makes people’s Mondays (there are always some really good ones!)

Remember Rainbow Brite?

Sorry, this giveaway is now CLOSED.

I remember Rainbow Brite from when I was a kid. I don’t remember a lot about her buddies, but I remember she had a kick butt horse. 🙂

See what she used to look like…Cupie doll cute 😉

…she’s baaaack! (Can you believe she’s 25??) She looks a lot different now…more modern…and I love it! It’s kind of neat that I can “pass along” one of my memories to my kids.

“Rainbow Brite has blasted back onto the doll scene with a vibrant makeover, continuing to delight children with her empowering and imaginative adventures as she spreads her positive messages of courage, kindness, and hope.”

MomSelect sent me a CD to review with my kids, and a few extras to share (I gave one to the kids’ preschool and others out as Valentines Day gifts to Maggie’s dance class). I even have one that I’ll give away to one lucky reader! (More about that below…)

The CD I have includes:

  • A new Rainbow Brite animated short (there are a few more on the Rainbow Brite website too!)
  • Games, puzzles, and coloring pages
  • The Theme song (in sing-along style)
  • Meet Rainbow Brite and her friends

I put the CD in and both Burke and Maggie were immediately drawn to my computer screen. The music is “kid-catchy” …meaning, kids love it and adults can stand it once or twice 😉

Their favorite thing – besides watching the short show over and over – is the match game. Followed closely by the picture maker.

(As a matter of fact, Maggie is bugging me to finish up this post so she can play again…)

I like that I can print out coloring pages – that we put together – so we can continue the fun off-line. I also like that even though it seems “girly” there are definitely things for boys to enjoy as well.  And I’ll admit that I had fun playing the Rainbow Rescue game *blush*

Now for the Giveaway part.

Do you want to win one of these CDs for your kid(s)?

There are multiple ways to enter – you do not have to do all of them to be entered!

One entry each for the following comments left. Pick and choose the ones you want to do, but please leave a separate comment for each option – makes for easier random.org picking.

  • Did you play with Rainbow Brite as a kid? (If so, what’s your favorite memory about her?)
  • Did you watch Rainbow Brite as a kid? (yep, there was a TV show.)

You can also get more entries (1 each) if you:

  • Blog about this giveaway and link back to me (let me know with a comment please)
  • Tweet about this giveaway (please let me know with a direct link in your comment)

You have until Midnight on Wednesday, February 24th to enter. Random.org will choose the winner and I’ll post it on Thursday the 25th.

Saturday Snapshot: Colorful Thinking

A recent Fishful Thinking activity is the Colorful Things game. You express certain feelings through certain colors. We chose to use Rainbow Goldfish for our game.

Burke didn’t want to play, and Logan just wanted to eat the fish…but Maggie seemed to really enjoy it!

At first, we went over what the different colors would mean – and what our faces would look like with that emotion. (I think we mixed up the colors a few times, but we still had fun!)

Sad

Angry

Happy

…and she decided that green meant throw up, but I’ll spare you those pictures 😉

And here’s a video for what things make Maggie sad, angry, and happy.

(57 seconds)

Friday’s Fotos: Sleep

Over the past week, all three kids have prompted me to run for the camera while they were sleeping. (There’s just something about a sleeping kid. )

As you know, we moved the twins out of their toddler beds a few months ago.

So glad we got Maggie the big bed ...

The kids get to bring their juice cups up to bed with them (with very little juice in them). It’s a comfort item for them, and we see no real reason to remove it.

Lucky juice cup...I like Burke snuggles too!

As I usually do, I went in to check on Logan before heading to bed myself and saw that his Mickey Mouse was on his head. And when I tried to move it to the side, he grabbed it – still asleep – and pulled it back over his head. Okay then.

Logan: "Don't you take my Mickey!"

Certain Things That Stick With You (Is It Just Me?)

Have you ever noticed that the things that have happened in your past that are most memorable are usually ones that were the most embarrassing? Of course I remember lots of GOOD things too, but the embarrassing ones seem to pop up out of nowhere. At random times. Just to make me feel like cringing all over again.

Examples, you say? Oh sure – why not.

Crying at my own birthday party. And trying to crawl under a rocking chair. Why? Because I didn’t want to get those spankings. I believe I was in the 3rd grade. New to my school. Good times.

Two in one day! At some point when I was in elementary school (5th grade, maybe?), we had a chimney fire at our house. In my rush to get out, I had put on a zip-up sweatshirt but forgot to put a t-shirt under it. As one of the first ones to ‘develop’ in my class, having no t-shirt on was quite bothersome to me…luckily, I don’t think it was widely known to my classmates. That same day, one of our neighbors was talking with me about the fire while we were walking from the bus stop to the school … so I wasn’t really thinking about things. When we got to the road we needed to cross, I looked both ways and crossed. Which made the appointed 6th grade crossing guard upset that I didn’t wait for HER to tell us when to cross…which she then reported to the vice principal…who then had to come and “chat” with me about obeying the rules. (Cuz, you know, in the 5th grade, I don’t know how to cross the road by myself!! …and it’s not like I did it on purpose anyway…)

Almost learning a new word. In the 6th grade, I believe I told my teacher that he was taking us for granite. Yes. He laughed.

It’s just a name. Also in the 6th grade, I managed to piss off a (different) beloved teacher without really meaning to. I’d been calling her daughter, a good friend, “Little T” and then called her “Big T” … which she didn’t like at all. (Totally understandable looking back at it NOW…didn’t mean anything by it when I did it though.)

Smell? In Jr. High, I was sitting next to a guy who liked me (and I knew it), when he told me that I smelled good – like baby powder. I shrugged and said “oh, that’s my deodorant.” To which he said nothing. Thinking he hadn’t heard me, I said it again…and got a look that said, “duh, I heard you the first time.” Which embarrassed me more than if I’d just kept my mouth shut and let the embarrassment stay on him.

Boing! Also in Jr. High, I was at our local fair (Field Days) just hanging out…when a guy who liked me (and I knew it – different guy than from above) started to stare at me. So, I gave him the ‘stink-eye’ … and walked face-first into the line that held up the tent I was going by. Yes. He laughed.

Please tell me that I’m not the only one who relives these things. (Wait, please tell me that I AM the only one reliving my things though!)

Kelly’s Cake Off For a Cause

That’d be Kelly Ripa. Yep. We’re on a first name basis 😉 This wonderful lady is involved in so many things. Her latest? Supporting ovarian cancer research. As you know, Mike does cancer research, so anything that supports that is okay in my book. (Even if it doesn’t directly support Mike – it’s still a great cause!) Plus, you could win a kick-butt Electrolux Induction Range.

Details

Kelly and accomplished master baker and cake decorator Buddy Valastro, from TLC’s “Cake Boss,” recently joined forces at a fun event to bake lavishly decorated cakes in support of The Ovarian Cancer Research Fund (OCRF). To add to the excitement, five teams of baking enthusiasts were invited to take part in “Kelly’s Cake Off For a Cause”, where they used what they learned from Kelly and the Cake Boss, to decorate their own cakes.

Although you might not get to taste these virtual masterpieces, you can still weigh in on the results! By visiting Kelly-Confidential.com, you can cast a vote for your favorite cake from Kelly’s Cake Off.

For every vote cast, Electrolux will donate $1[1] to OCRF as part of its $500,000 commitment to help fight ovarian cancer! And since love is on everyone’s mind these days, you can even decorate and send a special virtual cake to a friend, family member or someone you love.  For every cake sent, Electrolux will donate another $1[1] to OCRF.  Plus, Buddy’s top cake decorating tips are available — sure to inspire baking enthusiasts and novices alike.

If that’s not enough to get you to click over, everyone who logs on to the site and sends a virtual cake will be automatically entered for a chance to win every baker’s dream: a stylish new Induction Range from Electrolux.

Sweepstakes period: 2/09/10 through 4/12/10 (Cake Off lasts 2/9/10 through 2/19/10)

[1] Electrolux will donate $1 for every day you log in or register and vote in Kelly’s Cake Off for a Cause and every day you log in or register and send a virtual cake to a friend with a minimum of $30,000 and a maximum of $40,000.

I heard of this through MomSelect. My incentive for sharing this with you (beside the whole “let’s kick cancer’s butt” thing) is an entry for  a shot at an Induction Range from Electrolux.

Makes My Monday: ALMOST Warm Enough

We had an impromptu outing to the park today. Had we been more prepared, we would have had hats and mittens for all of the kids (and adults! brrrr!)…but they had fun for the short time we were all able to stand the wind.

Maggie on the dinosaur steps

Burke at the top of the "rock" wall

Logan at the top

Burke on the slide

Logan peeking through the tunnel

Maggie trying to touch my phone...

The fact that it was almost warm enough to play out at the park…and that there were no other kids there to catch Logan’s pink eye… totally Makes My Monday!

Baby Picture Sundays

This week’s theme is Love of My Life.

That’s EASY. This guy is:

(The big guy on the right...)

However, this is Baby Picture Sunday, and these guys come in a close second:

Logan, Burke, and Maggie watching the oven

(What are they watching, you ask?)

We made crayons today!

Too bad I only had star shapes

…wish I had some heart tins! Oh well, Stars work too 🙂

Happy Valentines Day everyone!
