Giveaway: Loaded Mashed Potatoes Prize Pack

Sorry, this giveaway is now closed.

Seriously – I get to give away mashed potatoes. How cool is that?! Betty Crocker – through MyBlogSpark – sent me a cool package that included instant mashed potatoes. But not just any ol’ mashed potatoes. Flavored mashed potatoes. Fully Loaded mashed potatoes! There’s also a measuring cup, a mixing bowl, a cool red scraper, and a potholder with a magnet in it.

The potatoes themselves were okay. I mean, they tasted pretty good, but I got out of the habit of cooking instant mashed potatoes, so the consistency threw me for a loop. They were incredibly easy to make…and Mike and I actually used the potatoes as a base for some other stuff we were cooking though, so it worked out really well.

As there’s always an official blurb provided, here it is:

With a taste that is just like homemade, new Betty Crocker “Loaded Mashed” potatoes are made with 100% real russet potatoes, and a blend of real seasonings and natural flavors like bacon, cheese, chives, and sour cream.

Add Betty Crocker flavored mashed potatoes to your favorite recipe for an ideal addition to any dinner-time dish. With nine tasty varieties to choose from, like Four Cheese and Sweet Potato, and a great value price, Betty Crocker flavored mashed potatoes are the perfect go-to side dish for your favorite meals.

For more information, visit BettyCrocker.com, and be sure to follow Betty Crocker on Twitter and “Like” the Facebook page to keep up with all of the latest news on your Betty Crocker favorites!

Giveaway: Box Tops for Education Prize Pack

I have a stack of box tops waiting to head to Burke and Maggie’s school – the Parent Advisory Committee (of which I’m treasurer) collects them. I think this year alone, we’ve earned over $500 through box tops! (Hm. I should probably know the exact number as treasurer, but I don’t have that in front of me right now…) Anyway – it’s FREE money for the school if you get the parents involved. Who doesn’t want free money??

I can’t even believe all the stuff Box Tops for Education through MyBlogSpark sent to me! And all of it – of course – has box tops that I can use for Burke and Maggie’s school! Everything fit in this super-huge Ziploc bag (seriously, you could fit a comforter in this thing). In no particular order: Hi-Lighters, ZooPals funtensils, Avery NoteTabs, Avery PocketTabs, Avery Name Tags, a USB thumb drive, a tumbler (that is perfect for my iced tea!), Hefty paper (well, not-really-paper) plates, Hefty plastic cups, Ziploc freezer bags, Ziploc Twist ‘n Loc containers, a Golden Grahams bar, a Box Tops car decal, a Box Tops magnet, a packet (not pictured because I forgot) of Land O Lakes coupons, a box (not pictured because I put it away and forgot about it) of cereal, and two (not pictured because I already ate them) Chex Mix single-serve bags.

Guess what? I get to give one of these prize packs away!!!

Here’s the official blurb they provided:

Since 1996, schools have earned more than $375 million through Box Tops for Education, a program that allows you to give back to your local school.  With Box Tops coupons available on over 250 products, it’s easy to start clipping and collecting to help local schools in need. Giveaway: You’re All My Favorites

Sorry, this giveaway is now CLOSED.

I’ve been reading You’re All My Favorites by Sam McBratney to Logan each night before bed. To say that this story is incredible for families with more than one kid is an understatement.

This wonderful story is about a family of bears: mom, dad, and 3 baby bears. Each night, they’re told that they’re all the best bears in the world – which makes them feel safe and secure until one night when they ask which one is the favorite. The mommy bear’s answer to each baby bear is fantastic!!

This is one of Logan’s favorite books. And I’m thinking that I should probably round up Burke and Maggie and read it to them too – that just hasn’t happened yet. (Bad Mommy! 😉 )

Because I love this book so much – I want to give one to you!!

To Enter to Win the book:

There are multiple ways to enter. Only one of the ways to enter is mandatory, all of the others are optional – you do not have to do all of them to be entered!

You have until Midnight on Wednesday, March 9th to enter. The winner will be posted on Thursday the 10th.

Mandatory – 1 entry:

  • How do you let your kids know that they are all your favorites?
(or … do you have a favorite? Is it known?)

Optional – 1 entry each:

  • Was there a moment that one of your kids asked if another was your favorite?
  • Twitter about this post and leave a comment with a direct link to your tweet.

Optional – 2 entries:

  • Blog about this post and leave a comment with a direct link to your post.

Disclaimer: I did not receive this book from anyone to review; I will not be receiving a copy to give away. I just love the book and wanted to share (and will be doing so out of my own pocket).

Giveaway: Parfait Delights!

Sorry, this giveaway is now CLOSED.

“You know what ELSE everybody likes? Parfaits! Have you ever met a person, you say, ‘Let’s get some parfait,’ they say, ‘Hell no, I don’t like no parfait’?
Parfaits are delicious!” ~Donkey

MyBlogSpark and Yoplait sent me a Chocolate scented votive candle, an insulated tote an aromatherapy eye pillow, and a coupon for free Yoplait Parfaits.

I went out and got the Crème Caramel with my free coupon…and then noticed the Chocolate Raspberry, so I got those as well (*blush*). The Crème Caramel is fantastic. It’s almost too rich to eat (please note the almost 😉 ). If you’re a fan of caramel, I’d highly recommend checking these out.

(Fair warning: I had to chuck the candle…that fake chocolate smell turned my stomach a bit…and smells *nothing* like the parfaits themselves.)

Giveaway: 9Lives Cat Food and Cat Toys

Sorry, this giveaway is now CLOSED.

I received a very nice cat care package from 9Lives and MyBlogSpark. Since my 2 cats are about 15 years old, I wasn’t sure how they’d react to the new toys. And we’ve been pretty hesitant lately to mix up their food … since they’re already smelling like those funky old uncle cats they are. But I figured we’d give it a try – they can’t smell any worse, and perhaps the 9Lives would make it better. 🙂

The package included a small back of 9Lives Advanced Nutrient System Daily Essentials dry cat food, a scoop/clip, a magnetic picture frame, and 4 cat toys: a squeaky/bouncy mouse, a suction cup spring ball, and two crinkle balls.

I shouldn’t have worried about the cats. They’re cats and they love cat food. We use those mondo cat food holders that are actually meant for weekend (or week-long) get-aways, so the scoop isn’t that helpful for us, but the clip part is pretty cool (and I can see the scoop being useful if you feed your cat once or twice a day). Both cats LOVE the squeaky mouse (so much so that it’s actually already not squeaking – which is just fine with me!!) The other toys…sniffed, but not really attacked like they do with the mouse. (Although, this could also be due to age rather than interest LOL!)

Some feline nutritional information from 9Lives:

A survey of feline pet parents across the country commissioned by 9Lives found that an overwhelming 94 percent of cat owners are confident they feed their felines the most nutritious meals possible. However, nearly half (48 percent) admit they’ve fed their cats table scraps – which do not provide the essential nutrients cats need – an average seven times per month. Additionally, only 30 percent know that giving your cat milk may not be a healthy practice due to the common incidence of lactose intolerance in adult cats.1

Additional findings include:

  • 23% of American pet parents think it´s beneficial to keep their cats on a purely vegetarian diet, while actually it may be harmful2
  • There are a number of foods that feline parents assume are healthy for cats, but are actually not advantageous to their health including root vegetables (73%), green tomatoes (54%), and raw potatoes (50%)3
  • Nine out of ten feline pet parents would be willing to switch foods if they knew it would provide better nutrition. In fact:
    • 92 percent of cat owners would switch foods if it would improve their cat´s health, and
    • 91 percent would switch food if they could add years onto their feline´s life

In an effort to educate pet parents about the common misperceptions of proper feline nutrition, 9Lives is committed to raising awareness to this issue by providing advanced nutrition for all cats. With the 9Lives Advanced Nutrient System, feline parents everywhere can rest assured knowing their cats are getting the essential nutrients they need to help promote healthy skin and coat, strong muscle growth and a healthy immune system among other benefits.

Now for the good part – I get to pass along one of these cool cat care packages to one of you!

To Enter to Win the Cat Care Package:

There are multiple ways to enter. Only one of the ways to enter is mandatory, all of the others are optional – you do not have to do all of them to be entered!

You have until Midnight on Thursday, September 23rd to enter. The winner will be posted on Friday the 24th.

  • What kind of cat food do you currently use?

Optional – 1 entry each:

  • How many cats do you have and how old are they?

Giveaway: Picnic Party!

Sorry, this giveaway is now CLOSED.

MyBlogSpark and Yoplait sent me a picnic cooler, picnic blanket, and a coupon for free Yoplait Splitz.

We had a BLAST having a picnic on the blanket (that rolls up nicely for easy carrying). We haven’t used the cooler yet, but that’s because we’ve only been picnicking in the back yard so far…but it’s really well made and I can’t wait to put it to good use. (I can see this being handy on trips back from the grocery store on very hot days…)

I went out and got the Strawberry Banana Split Yoplait Splitz with my free coupon. It was devoured within hours of when I got it home. And upon finishing, Burke said, “Mom! Can we get MORE?!” Apparently, this is a big hit in our house 🙂

I think my next purchase will be the Rainbow Sherbet … that I’ll put in the freezer and take out after the kids are in bed 😉

The Blurb from Yopliat:

Now you can drive past your local sweet shop without looking back. Yoplait Splitz is the new yogurt that tastes like a sundae. Providing all of the goodness of 100% real yogurt, Yoplait Splitz is a good source of calcium and vitamin D. With no artificial flavors or sweeteners and no high fructose corn syrup, this 90 calorie dessert is the treat your family craves.

For an even “cooler” experience, just pop a Yoplait Splitz in the freezer and in a few hours you can enjoy a cool, creamy cup of authentic frozen yogurt. Available in three delicious flavor combinations including Strawberry Sundae, Strawberry Banana Split, and Rainbow Sherbet, Yoplait Splitz is sure to have your family screaming for more.

Don’t forget to visit Yoplait on Facebook or Yoplait on Twitter and “Like” or “Follow” the brand to keep up with the latest news on your favorite Yoplait products.

In addition, you can visit http://www.myblogspark.com/uc/main/7b3a/ to download a printable coupon for $0.75 off any flavor Yoplait Splitz today!

Giveaway: Add a Little Spice

Sorry, this giveaway is now CLOSED.

Four or five years ago, Mike received a gift box of grilling spices for Christmas. A family member had gotten it for him…not knowing that the store was about a mile down the road from where we lived at the time. We didn’t know that either…

Penzey’s Spices are AMAZING!! They are so flavorful…once you use them, you’ll never go back. (Okay, so that isn’t 100% true…Mike uses a lot of garlic while grilling, so we buy that in bulk at Costco…but the Penzey’s garlic a definitely better.)

We just made a special trip to our old stomping ground to restock:

Because I love these spices so much, I want to share the joy. I’m giving away one spice bag to a lucky winner!

To Enter to Win the spices:

Go to penzeys.com and browse around a little. Then come back and enter to win!

There are multiple ways to enter. Only one of the ways to enter is mandatory, all of the others are optional – you do not have to do all of them to be entered! Please leave a separate comment for each entry – it’s easier for me to count them that way 🙂

You have until Midnight on Thursday, July 15th to enter. The winner will be posted on Friday the 16th.

Mandatory – 1 entry:

  • Do you bake? Do you grill? Do you just like to add an extra kick to your salad? Which spice from their website looks the best to you? (And what would you do with it?)

Optional – 1 entry each:

  • Do you have a recipe you LOVE that uses one (or more) of the following: sage, savory, nutmeg, cinnamon, seasoned salt? (These are the non-grilling spices I have on hand, so I’m looking for more ideas 🙂 )
  • Do you already use Penzey’s spices? Do you have a favorite spice/recipe idea for me?
  • Tweet about this post and leave a comment with a direct link to your tweet.

Optional – 2 entries:

  • Blog about this post and leave a comment with a direct link to your post.

Disclaimer: I have not received anything from Penzey’s to review or give away. I just love their stuff enough to try to introduce it to everyone I meet. 🙂

Remember Rainbow Brite?

Sorry, this giveaway is now CLOSED.

I remember Rainbow Brite from when I was a kid. I don’t remember a lot about her buddies, but I remember she had a kick butt horse. 🙂

See what she used to look like…Cupie doll cute 😉

…she’s baaaack! (Can you believe she’s 25??) She looks a lot different now…more modern…and I love it! It’s kind of neat that I can “pass along” one of my memories to my kids.

“Rainbow Brite has blasted back onto the doll scene with a vibrant makeover, continuing to delight children with her empowering and imaginative adventures as she spreads her positive messages of courage, kindness, and hope.”

MomSelect sent me a CD to review with my kids, and a few extras to share (I gave one to the kids’ preschool and others out as Valentines Day gifts to Maggie’s dance class). I even have one that I’ll give away to one lucky reader! (More about that below…)

The CD I have includes:

  • A new Rainbow Brite animated short (there are a few more on the Rainbow Brite website too!)
  • Games, puzzles, and coloring pages
  • The Theme song (in sing-along style)
  • Meet Rainbow Brite and her friends

I put the CD in and both Burke and Maggie were immediately drawn to my computer screen. The music is “kid-catchy” …meaning, kids love it and adults can stand it once or twice 😉

Their favorite thing – besides watching the short show over and over – is the match game. Followed closely by the picture maker.

(As a matter of fact, Maggie is bugging me to finish up this post so she can play again…)

I like that I can print out coloring pages – that we put together – so we can continue the fun off-line. I also like that even though it seems “girly” there are definitely things for boys to enjoy as well.  And I’ll admit that I had fun playing the Rainbow Rescue game *blush*

Now for the Giveaway part.

Do you want to win one of these CDs for your kid(s)?

There are multiple ways to enter – you do not have to do all of them to be entered!

One entry each for the following comments left. Pick and choose the ones you want to do, but please leave a separate comment for each option – makes for easier random.org picking.

  • Did you play with Rainbow Brite as a kid? (If so, what’s your favorite memory about her?)
  • Did you watch Rainbow Brite as a kid? (yep, there was a TV show.)

You can also get more entries (1 each) if you:

  • Blog about this giveaway and link back to me (let me know with a comment please)
  • Tweet about this giveaway (please let me know with a direct link in your comment)

You have until Midnight on Wednesday, February 24th to enter. Random.org will choose the winner and I’ll post it on Thursday the 25th.

A Shining Star in the Crochet World

I love to crochet. Before I had kids, I crocheted almost as much as I read books. (Hard to do both at the same time though…) I tried knitting, but I guess my brain can only follow one hook (or needle) at a time. 🙂

The other day, I had about an hour to kill between getting a throat culture and picking up the kids from school, so I hit the local craft store for some yarn. I found what I was looking for almost immediately, including a pattern! 50 minutes left to kill, so I figured I’d buy a hook as well so I could go ahead and start on my blanket. (Since I’m always in the middle of about 20 different projects, and I like keeping the right size hook with said project, I can never have too many…) Except…all of the size I needed were GONE. In every brand on the rack! Grrr.

So I wandered around a  bit looking at the end caps and a new hook caught my eye. THERE was the size I needed… only … it looks a little funny (and colorful!)

I picked it up and got excited…The Widget Crochet Lite has an acrylic (“normal”) hook, but it lights up! The handle has batteries and a switch…so it’s larger than normal, but it also has a “grippy” on it. And did I mention a light?? I can crochet in the DARK!!

.

Now, you’re thinking, “Why on Earth would you crochet in the dark??” right? I’ll tell you why… And it’s not just because my Great Granny Mac used to crochet at the movie theater (I still don’t know how she did that!) … it’s for all of those long trips we take to Vermont! I usually have to stop crocheting once I realize that I’ve been squinting for the past half hour and have to rip out the last row of stitches.

It’s PERFECT!! I used it on the way home one evening last week, and the light didn’t bother Mike while he was driving at all. Woot!

Oh – and an added (HUGE) bonus? Since the handle is about twice the size of a “normal” hook, my hand doesn’t cramp any more!! (Yes, I’m fully aware that I’m getting old. Shoosh. 😉 )

I think I’m in love. And I’m SO going back for more sizes.

Want one of your own? Leave me a comment with your favorite thing to crochet. (My favorite is afghans since they’re incredibly forgiving), and the size hook you use most often. A link to a favorite project (only if you can do it legally!) will get you another entry. Random.org will choose one winner in a week (so comment by Midnight, Monday, December 14th if you want a chance). I’ll announce the winner on Tuesday the 15th.

No one sent me this product to review, I bought it on my own…as I will buy the winner their own … in the size they want.
