Happy Independence Day!

The 4 kids (Maggie, Burke, Cousin Grey, and Logan) in their glow caps.

Saturday Snapshot: at the Carnival

Aunt Sharon, Uncle Jason, Cousin Grey, and Cousin Petra joined us for our town’s carnival. 🙂

Friday’s Fotos and Paci-B-Gone

Logan went to his first dental appointment last Tuesday. He was AWESOME. In fact, Dr. Dentist commented that he wished the rest of his patients for the day would be as good as Logan was. And he told Logan that he needed to demonstrate for all of the other first-timers how it should be done 😉 (Go Logan!!)

His teeth are fine…but Dr. Dentist asked if he was a thumb sucker or a pacifier user. Uhm…dang. you can tell?!  Ya…Logan still uses a paci at night. Dr. Dentist casually mentioned that he needs to transition away from that. He even suggested going to the store and finding a washcloth for the transition. (Apparently, sucking on a washcloth is better for the teeth than a paci.)

Since Logan was in the room for that conversation, that night I told him “Remember what the Dentist said? We need to throw the pacis away – they aren’t good for your teeth.”  (And then I had a meeting to go to, so I left Mike with a very distraught Logan…BAD mommy!) Mike said he cried for about a half hour – alternating between wanting his paci and his mommy. He slept through the night though.

The next night he asked for his pacis again, so again I reminded him about what the dentist had said. By the third night he asked again, but with a smile – definitely just looking to see what I’d say.

The first 5 days or so of bedtime routines were rough and completely drawn out, but by now, he’s stopped asking, and we’re all good! No more pacifiers in the house!

(Remember when Burke and Maggie got rid of their pacis?)

And now for the Foto. Burke and Maggie are taking a Gym class again this summer. (Year 1, Year 2)

This was taken right after they’d finished up.

Summer Blogging

There’s something about blogging in the summer. It’s not as ‘easy’ as the rest of the year. The motivation to get a post up each day dwindles because of a few factors.

First – the weather. It’s so nice outside that it doesn’t feel right plugging away inside. Oh sure, I’m in front of the computer to work – but I’ve been taking a lot of vacation days lately too. 🙂

Second – the comments. Not that I blog for the comments, but it’s definitely nice to have verification that there’s at least a few people out there reading my efforts. The number of comments during the summer definitely dwindles.

Third – My own commenting. I know that my own blog reading goes down a bit during the summer. Or rather, it gets sporadic; I find a block of time and catch up on all of the blogs I’ve been ignoring for the past few days…but then I sometimes feel guilty and don’t comment – especially on a back post – because then they’ll know I haven’t read in a while! (I know – who cares WHEN I read, right? Get over yourself Nancy. 😉 )

Enjoy your summer. I’ll still be here 🙂

Way Back When-esday

Cheryl over at Twinfatuation hosts this one. Go on over to see who else is playing – and join in too!

I’ve been doing some more scanning…

I can’t be too old here…so this is perhaps late October, early November of 1974.

Decorating

Yeasterday, Mike put up some shadow box picture frames that never made it onto the walls when we moved (3 years ago…).

Today, I found some additional decorations on it…

Makes My Monday: Conversations with Maggie

Maggie brought her stuffed lamb over to me this morning and said, “Mom, look! I have my little lamb!”

Of course, I started singing, “Maggie has a little lamb…”

She interrupted me and said, “No. It’s Mary’s. I’m just taking care of it for her.”

We then had a wonderful conversation about how Mary lives with us, but she’s over at the neighbors right now.

It ended up turning into a story about how Mary has a magic key to get into our house and only Maggie’s magic ears can hear her come in.

Conversations with Maggie – and her very imaginative stories – Make My Monday.

One of Those Days

I woke up this morning not feeling well. I had thought I’d be able to pull myself together to get to church and then the festivities after – I even geared the kids up for the water fun day at church, but I just couldn’t do it. Mike wasn’t feeling well either…and when Burke mentioned his tummy hurt, that was the icing. I went back to bed while my savior of a husband watched the kids.

After a couple-hour nap, I woke up feeling much better and Mike went to work. Burke perked up and we played with bubbles outside for a while. I weeded the 1st garden while the kids played with the Gigaball and the clubhouse…until it started to rain.

At first, the kids were fine in their various toys because they were “inside” … so I went under the canopy and figured we’d all be set. The rain had other ideas…so we ran inside and dried off.

Mike got home and we decided that no one felt like cooking – and since the Red Sox won yesterday, our local 99 restaurant has free kids meals (1 per each adult). We pulled in to the parking lot and discovered that Burke had neglected to put his shoes on. Crap. Okay – back home without even getting out of the car. Maggie and Logan were beside themselves and immediately broke down…which, of course, put us in wonderful moods. Fine – if this is the way everyone is going to act – we’re coming home and staying there!

Luckily, the kids can’t really tell time yet, so we started a bath an hour early, which meant the bed time routine started an hour early…and there are 3 kids in bed! (And 2 adults heading there soon.)

I suppose that’s the price you pay for holding a back yard BBQ that goes a bit past the kids’ typical bed time. It’s worth it at the time, but the following days are killers!

Saturday Snapshot: Almost Annual My Street BBQ

When we first moved to our town, we wanted to meet our neighbors, so we held a BBQ and invited everyone on our street.

We meant to hold it every year, but last summer slipped by way too fast and we didn’t get one in.

Today was our 2nd My Street BBQ. We had neighbors from 1 year old all the way through (I’m guessing) mid-80s. What a blast! 🙂

I remembered to take a few shots at the beginning, but I dropped the ball and didn’t get everyone…or any action shots of the kids. (Bad Nancy!)

18 adults and 11 kids total.

Friday’s Fotos: Studious, Knitting, and The Zoo

Burke asked to try on my glasses the other day. I thought he looked super cute (and quite studious!) Mike thought he looked a bit Harry Potter-ish (Like I said, super cute and studious LOL!)

I think I’ve mentioned once or twice that I’ve started knitting. I’m happy to report that I finally figured out that 3rd row, and I’m now on row 22! Woot! Oh, and thanks to Goddess, I tried out continental knitting instead of the traditional English knitting (although, I have to admit that I was afraid to switch after starting out one way). HOLY COW – so much easier and faster. Especially coming from a crochet point-of-view. I think the switch made me have a few crazy stitches – still not quite sure what I did since the numbers are all the same…but hey, it’s gonna look very home made 😉 And my stitches are kinda loose – especially on the ends – but overall, I’m kind of impressed with myself 🙂
