STREP 6, ZOO 1

Doesn’t add up, does it?

Strep has kicked our butts. Here’s the run-down:

Strep 2, Nancy 0
Strep 2, Logan 0
Strep 1, Maggie 0
Strep 1, Burke 0
Strep 0, Mike 1

Ya. Mike’s the only one who hasn’t had Strep in the Zoo. And Logan and I were both just re-diagnosed with it.

Wonder who’s next!

Logan Update

Despite going out to play yesterday, Logan was indeed sick. A few sips of hot chocolate when he got back in and then to the couch for “a rest.”

Later on, his fever spiked so we put him in a bath.

Even the bubbles didn't cheer him up!

That seemed to bring the fever down, but he went to sleep in his bed after that.

A bit later, he ended up throwing up – and the fever was back – so I plunked him into a second bath. (No bubbles this time.)

Fitful sleeps through the night and a slight fever this morning.

Off to the doctor’s office we go. An ear infection. And the meds should help with some “rumbling” in his chest as well.

The poor guy has been sleeping for most of today too.

Just Go Away!!

Another one bites the dust. Logan now has a fever. For those of you keeping score, it looks something like this:

  • Me (bronchitis)
  • Burke (fever)
  • Maggie (fever and bronchitis; finished meds on Friday)
  • Burke (fever AGAIN)
  • Logan (fever)

And Mike hasn’t been feeling well either. In fact, he’s been sleeping for most of the weekend…which – if you know him, you know that’s HIGHLY unusual. The man can’t sit still.

Hoping we’re all healthy for Christmas (and Disney!!!)

Just Breathe

I went to the Minute clinic this morning. I’ve been coughing for about a month and a half now…and last week my throat started to feel sore. Before Thanksgiving, I went to see my doctor (saw the one on call) and they said my lungs were clear and that my throat is probably just sore from post-nasal drip and here’s some cough syrup with codeine to get you through the night. Oh, and if it’s still sore after a week, come on back.

Well, my doctor’s office is about 45 minutes away…and I had thought they’d just do a strep test (which I don’t need an appointment for), so I decided instead of taking the drive, I’d hit the minute clinic that’s less than 10 minutes away. (A half hour wait later…)

Anyway, I talked with the doctor (RN??) there and she immediately stated that I have a sinus infection … which is what’s causing the post-nasal drip … which is why I’m coughing. Oh, and there may be a case of bronchitis.

So…now I’m on meds and an inhaler!

Part of me is relieved – please oh please let this kick this crap OUT of me. Part of me is pissed – why didn’t my doctor see ANY of this last week? Part of me is skeptical – Minute Clinic…in CVS … are they just trying to sell more meds?? Most of me just wants to feel better.

Sicky Sunday

Normally I’d be putting up a Baby Picture Sundays post but I just don’t have the energy today. The entire house is sick…I suppose that’s what happens when your kids go back to school and the weather starts changing.

The kids are coughing, I’m coughing. The kids are sleeping more than normal, Mike’s letting me sleep more than normal.

Lazy, lazy Sunday with Leapsters and TV. Go Mommy – way to be mom of the year 😉

First Day of School!

Today is Burke and Marjorie’s first day back at preschool.

I really thought we were in trouble when Burke woke up saying he didn’t feel well.

Then Marjorie came into the room with her backpack and lunch box.

So he was all better and we scrambled to get him dressed and ready on time.

Since we were in a hurry, this is the best picture I got with both of them together.

Once at school, Marjorie went straight for the play kitchen.

And Burke went for the easel.

I think he’ll be just fine.

Every Time

Okay, maybe not every time…but it seems like most of the time when we make plans for the family to get together with our friends, one of the kids gets sick and we can’t go. I think I’ve missed out on seeing my Connecticut friends the last 3 or 4 times they’ve all gotten together because of this. I know with 3 kids the odds of one of them being sick at any given time (especially in the winter) is probably astronomical, but sheesh. It’s getting ridiculous!

We’re supposed to go to a BBQ with friends this afternoon, but Maggie is *so* droopy. We did a Costco run and she fell to sleep in the car on the way home. She never does that any more! She’s had a fever off and on for the past few days and her poor nose is still redder than Rudolph’s (and very sore!)

Tomorrow we’re supposed to go see the above mentioned CT friends…I’m seriously hoping that she’s better by then because I really miss them. It’s been a long time since we’ve all gotten together. . . or should I say, since I’ve been able to get together with all of them.

And I had to cancel Maggie’s very first singleton-friend-coming-over-without-a-parent playdate on Friday because of this ick she’s got. She was crushed. (She was pretty pissed about not going to school as well…)

It’s Been a LONG Winter

WARNING: Not for the queasy stomached!!

We finally got Burke off the meds for his ear infection and Logan off the nebulizer and his meds when all hell breaks loose.

It all started last night a 7PM. ooooh – nope, it started Monday morning when Logan threw up in the car with Daddy while taking the twins to school. He was okay for the rest of the day, but then was awake for a few hours throwing up around 1AM Monday night.

Okay – back to last night, 7PM. Mike was giving the kids a bath when Burke threw up in the tub. Uhg. Dragged all 3 kids out (Logan was done, but the other two still had soap all over them). As a side note, Maggie had her first shower last night!

Finally got everyone into bed and under control by about 8PM. Mike and I came downstairs to eat some dinner and watch some TV (The Mentalist). We didn’t get very far when Burke was throwing up again…and then Maggie started.

Many PJ changes and bedding changes later – and Mike and I start feeling icky. (Probably around 10PM or 11PM.) I think I held out until about 1AM, but Mike was hit before then.

Many trips to the bathroom later, at around 5AM Logan wakes up crying. Diaper explosion. So bad that the entire inside of his PJs are just covered. Dumped him into the tub and hoped he’d go back to sleep after I got him all cleaned up.

Meanwhile, Maggie’s woken up probably every 1/2 hour to an hour to either throw up or just spit into the toilet.

When 8AM rolled around and the nanny showed up – I’m guessing you could see the complete and total relief on our faces. I got Maggie dressed and downstairs onto the couch (Burke and Logan were still sleeping). By the time Logan and Burke woke up, Maggie had thrown up again (and apparently did 2 or 3 more times throughout the morning).

Mike and I slept from when the nanny showed up until 4PM when she had to go home. Wow.

It’s now 5PM and Mike just got in from shoveling and is headed back to bed. The twins are pink cheeked and lounging on the couch watching TV. And I’m about to go wake Logan up from his nap.

Wish us a better night tonight!

Progress Reports

The twins got their very first progress reports from preschool yesterday. I have to say that I’m not that surprised by the results.

Well, let’s preface that with: when I opened them up and saw all “Gs” on Burke’s, my first thought was “uhmm….lower than an F?” heh Apparently G means “Good Progress” while W means “Working on Skill.”

Burke even got a G+ *grin* (Proud mommy here!) But that didn’t surprise me either because it was in the Using Crayons category.

If you missed his coloring in a previous post, here is a sample from December:

I was also not surprised by 2 of the W’s in Maggie’s. Categories: I communicate in sentences, and I can use language to express my wants and needs. Yep – we knew this. Remember that whole “Does Maggie ever talk?” thing? She’s better, but she still grunts at Mrs. Teachers when she wants things. (She does this to us as well, but we’re doing our best to ignore her until she uses the words we know she has…) The one that surprised me with Maggie was the W in the category I can count Jan (1 – 5) …I’m pretty sure she CAN…but then I figured that this might go hand-in-hand with the OTHER two she’s currently working on … hard to count for Mrs. Teacher when you won’t talk to her 😛

So…all in all, I’m not too worried and I’m not too surprised.

Logan’s progress is good and bad. His breathing is sooooooo much better now. And he’s back to a happy kid. Except that he threw up all over Mike and the car and things yesterday afternoon. Looked better toward the evening, but then was up for about 45 minutes around 1am throwing up in bed. (I had to change the sheets and his outfit twice!) He’s looking better this morning…hope it stays that way.
