School Photo: Year 2010-2011

Logan brought home his school picture today!

Logan

There Were Tears

Today started out like any other day…got the kids up and ready for school – just like any other Tuesday for the past few weeks.

The first difference was when Burke asked to be a “Bring lunch in” kid. Apparently the Bagel and Cream Cheese slated for “hot” lunch at school wasn’t going to cut it for him today (And I can’t say that I blame him…WTF?! THAT is not lunch. And the alternate “hot” lunch today? A pretzel with cheese sticks. Seriously?? Oh don’t get me started.) Anyway…no big deal – we reverted to his typical preschool lunch: pepperonis, baby carrots, and ketchup. (Hey – at least there’s some meat there…) Maggie decided that she wanted the same thing, so I put together her lunch as well. No biggie.

When it was time to bring Logan to school, he eagerly got into the car and we were off. We parked and got out…he held my hand while walking in…and then just froze as soon as we got into his classroom.

Okay, no big deal…he’s feeling a little shy today, so I’ll help him get his coat, backpack, and snack into his cubby and walk him to the drawing table where he’ll sit and color as I leave. Ya. No dice. He wouldn’t let go of my hand. He didn’t want to sit. He didn’t want to color. At one point, he got so clingy I had to pick him up! THIS is not the Logan of Preschool past. The Logan who barely acknowledged me as he ran off to play.

I stayed for as long as I could and then just had to hand him off to Mrs. Teacher. Logan wouldn’t let go of my shirt and gave me that panicked look of “I can’t believe you’re just going to LEAVE me here!!” and started crying.

OMG!! I couldn’t keep myself from tearing up as well! And THAT’S not me!! I’ve never cried while leaving a kid somewhere. Oh the desperation in his face! 😦

I practically ran out of the building to break down in the comfort of my van. But not before promising to pick him up after school (Nanny Jessica has been picking him up). Poor kid!

The whole time he was in school I kept telling myself that he got over it as soon as I walked out the door, but I was still weepy for most of the morning.

Fast forward to pickup time. I go to get him – just like I promised – and he RUNS to give me a hug. All smiles. And Mrs. Teacher said he was just fine all day…he snapped out of it almost immediately.

OY! Kids. I tell ya.

First Day of Preschool

Logan had his very first day of Preschool today! He has the same teachers as Burke and Maggie had their first year, so I’m very comfortable with his situation.

I do have to say that because of his age, the owner of the school wanted to put him in the ‘nursery’ room rather than the preschool room…I didn’t want to insult him like that, so I suggested the room he’s in now.

When I dropped him off, he was a little shy…but I told him it was just like speech class: we drop him off, he plays for a bit, and then we always come pick him up.

I picked him up today (Nanny Jessica will probably be doing that in the future though), and asked how he did. The teachers “just want to eat him up!” LOL! I asked if I made the right decision – if he belonged in this class and they said that based on today, he absolutely does (he even used the teeny tiny little potty they have in the bathroom – twice!), but that they’d let me know based on the following few weeks. Good enough. 🙂

Makes My Monday: Preschool Orientation

Logan had his preschool orientation today! I’m going to take it as a good sign that he didn’t want to leave…School starts tomorrow!!

Cheryl over at Twinfatuation hosts this one. Head on over to see what else makes people’s Mondays (there are always some really good ones!)

I’m a little disappointed in the quality of the video once I uploaded it to YouTube…might have to look into that.

And in other news…

I’m movin’ on up to President of my local twin’s club chapter.

These aren’t from too far back…just last year, in fact.

Burke and Maggie graduated from Pre-K (for the first time) last May. They graduate for the second time tomorrow! (Each class in the school graduates – even if you’ll be returning in the Fall.)

Graduation BBQ

We invited the kids from Maggie and Burke’s class (and their families) over for a Graduation BBQ today.

Mike went all out: burgers, dogs, kielbasa, pork chops, green beans, and potatoes. We also had stuffed shells with meatballs and a pasta salad.

Cupcakes, Oreo brownies, and this wonderful chocolate bark (that I’m so getting the recipe for!) were available for dessert.

The kids had a blast playing in the kiddie pool (that I broke and partially patched right before everyone got here!), running through the sprinkler, splashing in the water table, swinging, playing in the sandbox, and climbing on the playhouse. In general, being kids 🙂

I lost count, but I think there were 14 or 15 kids and 10 or 11 adults.

My preschool – way back when – used to have field trips where all of the kids and teachers would go out to a kid’s house for a home visit. It was a neat way to see how everyone lived and to feel more comfortable with your classmates.

This was a home visit to our house! I’m not even sure I’m in this photo (unless I’m the one on Stan’s lap with my tongue out..?) It looks like we’re eating lunch. 🙂

Since my big sister (pretty sure she’s the one in pigtails ) and my big brother (pretty sure he’s the one in the red jacket) are both in this…it’s probably before I was a student at the school. Plus, based on the wallpaper and the lovely linoleum floor…this was pretty early on. So…maybe 1977? 1978?

In honor of yesterday’s first day back at school, today’s post is from the twins’ very first day of school … all the way back to September 10th of last year 🙂

First Day of School!

Today is Burke and Marjorie’s first day back at preschool.

I really thought we were in trouble when Burke woke up saying he didn’t feel well.

Then Marjorie came into the room with her backpack and lunch box.

So he was all better and we scrambled to get him dressed and ready on time.

CIMG0313

Since we were in a hurry, this is the best picture I got with both of them together.

Once at school, Marjorie went straight for the play kitchen.

And Burke went for the easel.

I think he’ll be just fine.
