Way Back When-esday

Cheryl over at Twinfatuation hosts this one. Go on over to see who else is playing โ€“ and join in too!

This was taken on December 9, 1005…I’m fairly certain that it was one of the first times Burke and Maggie saw – and “played” with – snow. ๐Ÿ™‚

What IS this stuff??

Looks Like Debi Has a Christmas Present!

Congratulations to Debi!! Random.org picked YOU! Thanks to everyone who commented on my Crochet Giveaway.

Here’s what she had to say:

Iโ€™m going to enter this for my daughter Stephanie who crochets all the time (I donโ€™t know how!) Steph LOVES to make hats and scarves!

If I win, itโ€™s a Christmas present for her ๐Ÿ™‚

I sure hope Stephanie enjoys it! Send me your address and I’ll get that out to you ๐Ÿ™‚

Makes My Monday: A Pageant, A Nut, and A Tickle

There was a children’s pageant at our church yesterday. Since Maggie is the only one who will go to Sunday school – she was the only one in it! While Mike was at work, I took all 3 kids with me. Thank goodness I sat beside VP so I could sneak up and see that Maggie was okay in the front while leaving the boys with her. (She also took the following picture on my phone ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks VP!!) We didn’t make it through the whole thing, but we did get to see Maggie’s part.

Maggie's in the front behind the banister with a green dress and a blue scarf

Before the pageant, we hit Target and purchased a much-asked-for-after-Saturday-night Nutcracker. Maggie was dancing around with it this morning ๐Ÿ™‚

Dancing with the Nutcracker

And lastly, Maggie was a big girl today and got her hair washed before getting it cut…except that she couldn’t stop giggling because it ticked. Which totally cracked me and Ms. Hairdresser up.

It Tickles!!

Who knew I’d be talking about Maggie for all of those? ๐Ÿ˜‰ All three, totally Make My Monday.

Baby Picture Sundays

This week’s theme is: It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas. Fun!!

We did a whole bunch of Christmas things yesterday. First, we decorated the tree.

This goes right here...

Perfect.

Where do these go?

I'll show you!

Then, Maggie and I got ready to go to a local-ish production of the Nutcracker. (Maggie’s first time!!) It wasn’t professional, but it wasn’t some mom-an-pop production either. (Only 4 ballerinas fell… ๐Ÿ˜‰ )

Off to the Nutcracker

We were in the 3rd row!!

Soooo sick - but loving the show

I asked Maggie at intermission if she wanted to go home or watch more. She DEFINITELY wanted more. (She wanted more when the show was over LOL!) She’s got a major cold though, so she was quite the trooper…especially as the show started at 6pm…close to bed time!

And … it turned out that one of my former Girl Scouts was in the production! She was pretty good too ๐Ÿ™‚

And what were the boys doing while we were off gallivanting? Putting the train together!

Trains!

Saturday Snapshot: Compromise

When you have boys and girls, it’s really hard to explain that some things are not really considered “right” for the other – especially when it obviously brings so much joy.

Remember Maggie’s delight with the pink fingernail polish? Nanny Jessica brought some sparkly purple polish for the cause. (It’s super cute!) And as much as Burke was able to resist the pink nail polish, the sparkly polish was just too tempting. We compromised.

Whose Sparkly Toes are Those?

"Mine!!"

Fx4: Creche

This creche was handed down to me this year. It’s the one I grew up with … I remember playing with it for long spurts of time when I was little. I have it up on the mantle this year, but I hope to make it more accessible to the kids when they get a little older.

My New Diet Plan

I’ve come up with a new diet plan that will not only help me lose weight, but it might also keep me warm!

I figured out that I won’t eat if I’m crocheting. . . I don’t want to get my yarn all dirty, right? So perhaps if I make a rule that I *have* to crochet at night while watching TV (instead of snacking), I’ll shed some pounds! ๐Ÿ™‚ And … since my favorite things to make are afghans…I’ll be keeping myself warm for the winter as well. Win – win!

AND, since I discovered the nifty new Crochet hook (wanna win one?), my hands aren’t cramping. Woot!

Do you think my diet fad will catch on?

I used to box my kids up. Actually – come to think of it, they still ask for castles and boats and tractors…

Burke and Maggie

A Shining Star in the Crochet World

I love to crochet. Before I had kids, I crocheted almost as much as I read books. (Hard to do both at the same time though…) I tried knitting, but I guess my brain can only follow one hook (or needle) at a time. ๐Ÿ™‚

The other day, I had about an hour to kill between getting a throat culture and picking up the kids from school, so I hit the local craft store for some yarn. I found what I was looking for almost immediately, including a pattern! 50 minutes left to kill, so I figured I’d buy a hook as well so I could go ahead and start on my blanket. (Since I’m always in the middle of about 20 different projects, and I like keeping the right size hook with said project, I can never have too many…) Except…all of the size I needed were GONE. In every brand on the rack! Grrr.

So I wandered around aย  bit looking at the end caps and a new hook caught my eye. THERE was the size I needed… only … it looks a little funny (and colorful!)

I picked it up and got excited…The Widget Crochet Lite has an acrylic (“normal”) hook, but it lights up! The handle has batteries and a switch…so it’s larger than normal, but it also has a “grippy” on it. And did I mention a light?? I can crochet in the DARK!!

.

Now, you’re thinking, “Why on Earth would you crochet in the dark??” right? I’ll tell you why… And it’s not just because my Great Granny Mac used to crochet at the movie theater (I still don’t know how she did that!) … it’s for all of those long trips we take to Vermont! I usually have to stop crocheting once I realize that I’ve been squinting for the past half hour and have to rip out the last row of stitches.

It’s PERFECT!! I used it on the way home one evening last week, and the light didn’t bother Mike while he was driving at all. Woot!

Oh – and an added (HUGE) bonus? Since the handle is about twice the size of a “normal” hook, my hand doesn’t cramp any more!! (Yes, I’m fully aware that I’m getting old. Shoosh. ๐Ÿ˜‰ )

I think I’m in love. And I’m SO going back for more sizes.

Want one of your own? Leave me a comment with your favorite thing to crochet. (My favorite is afghans since they’re incredibly forgiving), and the size hook you use most often. A link to a favorite project (only if you can do it legally!) will get you another entry. Random.org will choose one winner in a week (so comment by Midnight, Monday, December 14th if you want a chance). I’ll announce the winner on Tuesday the 15th.

No one sent me this product to review, I bought it on my own…as I will buy the winner their own … in the size they want.
