You Know Christmas is Around the Corner When…

…you start hearing and seeing ads for the Clapper and Chia Pets. Seriously – what’s up with pushing these two items right around Christmas? And do people really buy them?

Okay – hold up…I’ll confess. I did buy the clapper for Mike one year – as a JOKE! He’s always wanting to turn off the light from in bed.

I also have to say that this thing was more anoying than anything else. Put together a creaky bed, a husband who rolls over bunches, a light-sleeping wife, and a very-touchy-at-all-the-wrong-times clapper and you get some sleepless nights. (Sure, it was funny the first few times the light came on and woke me up in the middle of the night when Mike rolled over…)

Needless to say, we have no idea where this lovely little thing is now.

Favorite Foods: A – Z

Can you tell food is on the brain? *sigh* These foods, although favorites, aren’t necessarily on my diet…

A – Artichokes

B – Beef Stew

C – Clam Chowder in a Bread Bowl (Perhaps I should just say Chocolate)

D – Dough (as in, Fried Bread. With powdered sugar.)

E – Eggs (the Deviled kind)

F – Freetos

G – Goobers (That’d be chocolate covered peanuts)

H – Hot Dogs (From Fenway!)

I – Ice Cream. HäagenDazs bars – all the way!

J – Jax

K – Krispie Kreams

L – Lasagna

M – Mike’s Marinated Chicken on the grill

N – Noodles

O – Onion Soup (of the French variety.) Even though it gives me a headache.

P – Potatoes – any kind…except sweet. Those are not potatoes.

Q – Quiche Lorraine

R – Root Beer Float (I know – not really a food.)

S – Shepherd’s Pie

T – Turkey

U – Ugli fruit

V – Veal Parmesan

W – Waffles (especially Dad’s.)

X –

Y – Yogurt (I couldn’t think of anything else…not a HUGE fan, but it’s okay)

Z – Zucchini

No More Sliced Fingers!

You may recall my Mom Of The Year post…the one where Logan sliced his thumb open on a can in the recycle bin.

We made it so that wouldn’t happen again! Mike and I ordered a trash bin/shelving unit to fit under the counter in the pantry:

I’m SO excited!! Not only because of the no more sliced fingers, but because you should have seen the stack o’ crap we had stuffed under this counter… 😉

Deck the Halls

We decorated the tree today! Mike got it out of the attic (yes, it’s fake) and strung it with lights on Monday – with the kids’ help, of course.

This is so cool

You're going to let me touch?!

Today, we got out the rest. Burke was especially good at finding spots to hang the decorations. Maggie would either stuff one in (without actually hanging it), or bring it to me to hang. Logan was just fascinated. Enough so that he stood – by himself – for over 5 minutes just looking at the tree. (well, touching too…but not using it to hold himself up.)

I wanna help too!

Still a Little Girl

I took Maggie for a haircut on Thursday. (She had a dentist appointment as well – poor kid was on my lap in a chair all day!) When I mentioned that we were headed for a haircut, she very firmly stated that she wanted to keep all of her hair ON, thank you very much, because she wanted to stay a little girl. LOL First, it was the headband that “made” her a little girl, and now hair.

We walked into the salon – hand in hand – with her face getting whiter, and her voice becoming non-existent. I’d like to note that this wasn’t her first haircut – and that she’s been in THIS salon, with THIS beautician before. Ms. Haircutter went to work and Maggie still had a death grip on my hand…but she relaxed a bit when she saw not one, but two other little girls getting their hair cut on either side of her (and this isn’t even a kid’s place!)

Sparkly (shorter) hair later – she’s loving looking in the mirror and realized that *phew* she’s still a little girl.

Recipe: Crock Pot Pork Chops

It’s hard to top yesterday’s post, but I think the loss of 3 pounds this week deserves at least a Yeah! 🙂 See today’s Ladies of Loserville post for more.

You may have noticed that I have only posted crock pot recipes so far. That’s because I love my crock pot. I love that most recipes are super easy – with very little prep work, and that they are SOOOO tasty! And I’m loving that most of the ones I’ve made all along are point-friendly.

Also, a note about the last crock pot recipe. Do not substitute for the Italian dressing. Man … that was the worst dinner ever.

On to the good stuff. This makes the chops so incredibly tender and oh-so-flavorful! It’s also only 4 points a serving.

Ingredients:

  • 6 lean pork chops
  • 1 can condensed cream of <something> soup. I use Cream of Celery.
  • 1/4 C. water
  • 1 large onion – sliced
  • pepper to taste

Directions:

  1. Place the chops on the bottom of the crock pot.
  2. Add onions, soup, water, and pepper.
  3. Cook on low 8 hours.

Logan: yesterday.

Im walkin

I'm walkin'

And the video to match! He’s walking, waving and saying “byeeee!”, and saying “Cheese!” – all of his tricks lately 😉

(1 minute, 16 seconds long)

WOOOOHOOOO!!!

Mike just found out today that the paper he’s been working on *very* hard for a *very* long time is going to be PUBLISHED!!!!

The publication Molecular Cell is running:
Small molecule inhibitors of HIF-2a translation link its 5′-UTR Iron-Responsive Element (IRE) to oxygen sensing

What’s all that mean? Good stuff is happening in his cancer research. 🙂

I’m so proud of you, Mike!
