Since I’m continuing to “play” stay-at-home-mom for the next week, I needed some ideas to keep the kids entertained. A big Thank You to Goddess for the Rice Box idea!!
I got a $5 bag of rice from Costco and filled two separate boxes with rice. (Yes, we are at the stage where it’s much less stress/mess/yelling/fighting/etc. with separate things.) Pulled out some various sized cups and bowls, a spoon or two…and the kids are having a blast!
Is it bad that I told them that there may be something hidden in all that rice…?
P.S. The sheets with the half fitted top sheet that I got for the kids are from Walmart:

If you read regularly, you know that I bought new toddler sheets for the kids for Christmas. When I went to make the bed, I thought to myself…”Now, how the heck are the top sheets going to stay on?? The kids are usually all over the place.”
Two seconds later, I had my answer. The genius minds who created these sheets made the top sheet HALF fitted. That’s right, there’s elastic on the bottom two corners. So while the kids may thrash about and lose blankets, the top sheet has stayed “tucked in.”
So NOW my question is – why don’t they make the ADULT sheets like this? I sure could use some.

I usually don’t take the kids shopping with me to the regular grocery store, but they occasionally head out with me. When they do – it’s usually for a quick run, so all three fit in the cart with the food. (Twins in the back, Logan in the front.) Not this time. I had to go out because we were running out of everything, Mike was working, and there was a snow storm predicted for later on. (ya, piddly little thing THAT was.)
Anyway…about 1/2 way through, I realized that the kids were not going to fit with all of the food I was grabbing from the shelves. They were more than happy to hop out and help mommy push the cart. I’m sure the other shoppers got really tired of hearing “Don’t push too fast – we don’t want to run into anyone!” over and over.
Toward the end, Burke got tired of pushing, but remembered my threat of “If you leave the cart, we leave immediately and we don’t take ANY of this food with us!” So he took matters into his own hands:

Cheryl at Twinfatuation graciously allowed me to play along with an alphabet meme. What is it that I have to do? List 10 of my favorite things that start with the letter N. (Thanks for going easy on me Cheryl!)
(2 Nephews and 1 Niece – so far!) My sister’s son Grey cracks me up every time we see him. And his infatuation with Maggie is super cute. I’d love to see Mike’s sister’s kids more than we do…but I’m still glad that they’re out there π
(If I get desperate, I’m splitting this entry into two! LOL)
These are a staple for one of the crock pot recipes I make weekly. (Crock Pot Burger Soup.)
On my laptop’s desktop are the words: There are nice people everywhere, be one of them. I love people who live by that.
They have the BEST Mudslides.
Without these, I would be constantly tripping over things in each and every bedroom in our house.
I wish we knew ours a little better, but we definitely have some sweet ones. The ones across the street and two houses down dropped off a very nice set of blocks he had made for his kids about 30 or 40 years ago. The ones next door saw how pregnant I was when we moved in (7 months along) and immediately came over with an offer to babysit if I went into labor late at night.
Not only do I love Nursery School right now for my kids (they have grown *so* much this past year!), but I have fond, fond memories of my own Nursery School. The Otter Creek school just had its 30 year reunion…which I couldn’t attend because it was a few weeks before Logan was born and I was on strict “Do Not Travel” orders.
I can name that tune in one note. Seriously. Especially 80’s songs. I can name the artist as well. I wouldn’t have done well on the TV show though … because I can name the tune in one note when I hear the ACTUAL note. The TV show had some dude playing the song on the piano…which sounds totally different. I probably still would have done okay – but not nearly as well as if they used the actual recording.
For the longest time, I could never understand why my parents and grandparents were so obsessed with the News. If they read the News for the same reason I do now, I totally understand. I crave things to read, but rarely have the time to read a complete “thing” – unless it’s a news article. I suppose that whole “staying up-to-date with stuff that’s going on in the world” thing is a bonus as well…
I’m pretty much always reading something by Nora Roberts. I *LOVE* her books!! A little romance, a little mystery, a little magic…what more could you need? π
.
What’s your favorite N? (BIG brownie points for “Nancy” π )
So, now is when it gets a little fuzzy…I’m guessing if you want to play along, you can leave me a comment and I’ll figure some way to randomly assign a letter to you. Cheryl, is there some rhyme or reason to the whole meme madness? π

Today marks the first day I had to pick a kid up from school early – Burke got sick at school. Poor guy.
It wasn’t THAT early…and I got the call from the nurse as I was loading Logan into the car to head that way anyway. (I usually try to get to the school early so I have a place to park before all the parents who do the “pick-up” routine line up and get in the way of the parking spaces.)
Apparently, as I was walking into the building is when Burke decided to let loose. Mrs. Teacher brought him to the nurse because all of a sudden he laid down on the floor and curled up into a ball. Then got really pale. When she felt his forehead, he was fairly hot. Poor guy. π¦
Ironically, today was PJs and Slippers day at school, so he’s all set to be lounging on the couch.
Maggie’s in heaven because SHE’S in her PJs watching TV too, but she feels just fine.

This week, it’s Play-dough fun time. Logan was really enjoying himself, and Maggie was right there to help him out (not that Logan wanted any help…).

Besides being consumed by “What are we doing to do for pre-school next year??” thoughts, I’ve had the following float through my head over the past few days:
Is my cat blind? Why is it that he must sniff my hand each and every time I go in to pet his head? Doesn’t he remember who I am?? (I’ve only had him for oh, 7 or 8 years now.)
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
I really don’t think everyone who stops by my blog is de-lurking…but how cool is it that I found more blogs to read because of National De-lurking Week??
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Why does pee smell funny after eating asparagus?
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Am I going to Library Hell for using a book as a door stop in the kids’ room?
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Are my fingers skinnier than they would be if I didn’t do all this typing?

So the very resourceful What a Card called our pre-school and asked what the heck was going on with all the different classes and recommendations. (She’s so smart!) And thank goodness she did, because it was a snow day today, no school tomorrow, and early registration is FRIDAY.
Here’s the skinny: They recommended kids to the different rooms based on their age (“old” 4’s vs. “young” 4’s).Β The class recommended for Burke and Maggie apparently has a more challenging pace, and is more focused on kids who are starting kindergarten the next year.
Okay. Pretty sure that means we’re sold. Now we just need to figure out how to afford it and get the kids there!

National De-Lurking Week!
The lovely Goddess has shed light on a very important week:
What’s that mean? It means that all of you people who come to my blog but never leave a comment – I’m counting on you to come on out of Lurkerville and leave me some love. π
Followed the link from Facebook? Searched for Zimmer Zoo? Got a bookmark saved? Clicked over from someone’sΒ blogroll? All of you! I wanna know you’re here π
Oh, and if you’re a perpetual lurker on all blogs – show the others you’re there too! Trust me, we bloggers live for comments. It’s shameful.
