A to Z Reading Challenge

So…we all know that I LOVE these alphabet things right? (remember these? The FB Meme and the favorite TV shows, Movies,Β  Books, Foods, and Potatoes? Ya, I have an illness. πŸ™‚ ) I haven’t done an ABC post in a long time…but this one is different. I saw it over on MamaC’s blog, Wine and Coffee. It’s an A to Z Challenge!
Although…I already know that I’ll probably cheat. At least…I think it’ll be cheating. heh

Here are the Rules:

How does this reading challenge work? Choose the option that works best for you…
Authors — Read alphabetically by author. Commit to 26 books.
Titles — Read alphabetically by title. Commit to 26 books.
Authors & Titles — Commit to reading 52 books

How strict is the 26 or 52? I know it isn’t always easy to find those difficult letters. The thought of finding the X’s (for example) might scare folks away. It shouldn’t! I’m a merciful host! (Ask anyone!)

If you want to give the X’s a go… For authors, try to find an X in the first name, middle name, or last name. For titles, it doesn’t have to be the starting word. Try to find an X somewhere in a title, and it’d count in my book.

Still can’t find a book for the letter you need? I’ll take your word for it. I’ve been there. I know. If your library doesn’t see the need to order books just because it starts with an X, then I don’t blame you for not wanting to special order a book that you may or may not enjoy. You gave it your best, don’t feel bad. You can still make this challenge work for you.

My choice is the titles (I’m thinking it’ll be a little easier than the author – especially since that means I can read multiple books by the same author, but who knows!).

How am I going to cheat? I think I’m supposed to read them in order: A to Z…but I’m not reading an A book right now (It’s an S!!), and I’ve just finished an H book. And since my reading time has been significantly dwindling over the past …oh… six years, I’m gonna have to count those! Also, I’m going to have to bet my book club isn’t going to be too keen on having to read titles in order for me…so there you have it, I’m challenged, but doing it my way. (Hope that’s okay!!)

Anybody else up for it?

A Few of My Favorite Things

Cheryl at Twinfatuation graciously allowed me to play along with an alphabet meme. What is it that I have to do? List 10 of my favorite things that start with the letter N. (Thanks for going easy on me Cheryl!)

Nephews and Niece

(2 Nephews and 1 Niece – so far!) My sister’s son Grey cracks me up every time we see him. And his infatuation with Maggie is super cute. I’d love to see Mike’s sister’s kids more than we do…but I’m still glad that they’re out there πŸ™‚
(If I get desperate, I’m splitting this entry into two! LOL)

These are a staple for one of the crock pot recipes I make weekly. (Crock Pot Burger Soup.)

Nice People

On my laptop’s desktop are the words: There are nice people everywhere, be one of them. I love people who live by that.

The 99 (Ninety-Nine … does that count??)

They have the BEST Mudslides.

Without these, I would be constantly tripping over things in each and every bedroom in our house.

I wish we knew ours a little better, but we definitely have some sweet ones. The ones across the street and two houses down dropped off a very nice set of blocks he had made for his kids about 30 or 40 years ago. The ones next door saw how pregnant I was when we moved in (7 months along) and immediately came over with an offer to babysit if I went into labor late at night.

Nursery School

Not only do I love Nursery School right now for my kids (they have grown *so* much this past year!), but I have fond, fond memories of my own Nursery School. The Otter Creek school just had its 30 year reunion…which I couldn’t attend because it was a few weeks before Logan was born and I was on strict “Do Not Travel” orders.

Name that Tune

I can name that tune in one note. Seriously. Especially 80’s songs. I can name the artist as well. I wouldn’t have done well on the TV show though … because I can name the tune in one note when I hear the ACTUAL note. The TV show had some dude playing the song on the piano…which sounds totally different. I probably still would have done okay – but not nearly as well as if they used the actual recording.

For the longest time, I could never understand why my parents and grandparents were so obsessed with the News. If they read the News for the same reason I do now, I totally understand. I crave things to read, but rarely have the time to read a complete “thing” – unless it’s a news article. I suppose that whole “staying up-to-date with stuff that’s going on in the world” thing is a bonus as well…

Nora Roberts

I’m pretty much always reading something by Nora Roberts. I *LOVE* her books!! A little romance, a little mystery, a little magic…what more could you need? πŸ™‚

What’s your favorite N? (BIG brownie points for “Nancy” πŸ˜‰ )

So, now is when it gets a little fuzzy…I’m guessing if you want to play along, you can leave me a comment and I’ll figure some way to randomly assign a letter to you. Cheryl, is there some rhyme or reason to the whole meme madness? πŸ™‚
