Together or Separate: An Update

So…apparently, if you drag yourΒ  feet long enough, certain decisions are made for you. (Remember the agonizing over keeping Burke and Maggie separate or together in school?)

We received Burke and Maggie’s teacher assignments about a week ago. Burke has Mrs. O. in room 10 and Maggie has Ms. S. in room 6. I think I’m okay with this decision. (This decision that was made for me…) I mean, sure it would be so much easier on me if they were together, but I really think Burke will thrive by himself. He needs to learn how to stand on his own a bit. And Maggie is already saying “WOO HOO!! New friends!!” So she’s going to be just fine.

I did find out that one of the little girls in their preschool class will be in Burke’s class. They weren’t necessarily good friends, but they’re both a bit shy, so they might gravitate toward each other that first week or so. I’m glad he has that. (The preschool is in a different town, so there aren’t many kids from my town who go to it.)

One of the little girls from Maggie’s dance class will be in Maggie’s class. I’m happy about that as well. And another little girl from her dance class will be in Burke’s class – so, not someone he directly knows, but I think after a play date or two over the summer (in all my spare time πŸ˜‰ ), they’ll be all good and she will at least be a face he recognizes.

Wonder if this is as stressful on them as it is on me….

Makes My Monday: Conversations with Maggie

Maggie brought her stuffed lamb over to me this morning and said, “Mom, look! I have my little lamb!”

Of course, I started singing, “Maggie has a little lamb…”

She interrupted me and said, “No. It’s Mary’s. I’m just taking care of it for her.”

We then had a wonderful conversation about how Mary lives with us, but she’s over at the neighbors right now.

It ended up turning into a story about how Mary has a magic key to get into our house and only Maggie’s magic ears can hear her come in.

Conversations with Maggie – and her very imaginative stories – Make My Monday.

Friday’s Fotos: Studious, Knitting, and The Zoo

Burke asked to try on my glasses the other day. I thought he looked super cute (and quite studious!) Mike thought he looked a bit Harry Potter-ish (Like I said, super cute and studious LOL!)

I think I’ve mentioned once or twice that I’ve started knitting. I’m happy to report that I finally figured out that 3rd row, and I’m now on row 22! Woot! Oh, and thanks to Goddess, I tried out continental knitting instead of the traditional English knitting (although, I have to admit that I was afraid to switch after starting out one way). HOLY COW – so much easier and faster. Especially coming from a crochet point-of-view. I think the switch made me have a few crazy stitches – still not quite sure what I did since the numbers are all the same…but hey, it’s gonna look very home made πŸ˜‰ And my stitches are kinda loose – especially on the ends – but overall, I’m kind of impressed with myself πŸ™‚

First Dance Recital

Maggie’s first dance recital was last night. Oh my gosh – it was Super Cute! (Even if it WAS a little long. We left at intermission…)

We weren’t allowed to take pictures or video at the actual recital (rehearsal only), but here’s Maggie all dressed and made up…ready to go! I will put it into YouTube with the help from themarketingheaven.com.

This picture comes from June of 2007. Mike had just built a “Bored Board” for the kids. They loved it! It’s a chalk/magnetic board with knobs and (out of site) doors. We’d give them paint brushes and water and let them go to town “painting” πŸ™‚

I’m a little disappointed in the quality of the video once I uploaded it to YouTube…might have to look into that.

These aren’t from too far back…just last year, in fact.

Burke and Maggie graduated from Pre-K (for the first time) last May. They graduate for the second time tomorrow! (Each class in the school graduates – even if you’ll be returning in the Fall.)

Together?

Still mulling things over about keeping Burke and Maggie together or separate in Kindergarten next year. (Thanks to everyone who commented!! πŸ™‚ )

There are a few updates. I asked them both what they wanted to do. Maggie’s immediate, no hesitation response was “Separate!” Burke’s was “Together!” then “Separate!” then “Together!” I’m not sure why I’d expect him to know when I don’t have a clue πŸ˜‰

I asked their preschool teacher what she thought. Her immediate response was “Oh, Kindergarten is tough! You want them together. Plus, that’s better for your sanity.”

Whoo boy.

I chatted with Mrs. Teacher for a while about it and told her all of my conflicting thoughts…and ended up conflicting her as well LOL! She actually told me that the kids are getting more independent … and not eating lunch together as I had thought. And that they almost always do their own thing … unless Burke gets up in Maggie’s face to bug her a bit. (No wonder Maggie wants separate πŸ˜› )

I also had the thought that maybe Burke wouldn’t be so up in Maggie and Logan’s faces if he had his OWN time for a while. That may be wishful thinking since he seems to really enjoy wrestling with them…especially when they don’t want to. (ya, I have my happy hat on about THAT one…we’re working on it.)
