Logan pooped in the potty yesterday!! (No, I didn’t take a picture of that! 😛 ) He’s super proud of his sticker chart though.

Another thing I don’t have a picture of (bad mommy) – he’s been drinking from a “big boy cup” (non-sippy) and hasn’t spilled! Well…the does get some drops on the floor when he’s taking his cup to the sink, but that hardly counts 🙂

He’s also been counting – to TEN! But he’s sneaky about it. I’ll hear him mumbling something or another and then realize that he’s counting his fingers. Or the blankets on the dresser. Or something else like that. And if you ask him to count, he’ll put a grin on his face and say something like, “One…three….eight…” Lil’ stinker 😛 I DID manage to get him on video…however, it was at bed time and I just happened to have my Flip in my pocket and turned it on…so you can’t really see anything. (And as soon as I turned on the lights and tried again, the little bugger put that grin on his face…)

And just something fun…Logan has a rocket ship that Aunt Kahki gave to him for Christmas (he just *loves* the thing!!). Nanny Jessica has him push the button for the countdown and then launches him.

Well That Just Stinks.

We’ve had a bit of a backslide in the ah, potty training department. There has been poo in Burke’s undies for the past two days. And when I ask him about it, he tells me “I just didn’t feel it.” Mmhm. And this is usually after I’ve witnessed some squirming and asked if he needs to use the potty (“Nope!”). And this is usually while he’s doing something he doesn’t want to stop doing (or can’t stop), like watching TV, playing video games, or in the car. Good times.

Luckily, we had the twins’ 5 year appointment today so I asked Dr. Doctor about it. She said it’s actually pretty normal and that perhaps we should go back to a potty “schedule” – every 2 to 3 hours, or a sticker chart. We’ll see.

On a brighter note, the appointment went really well! (Aside from the 2 shots each.) Both Burke and Maggie are still little peanuts (I don’t remember specifics, but both are somewhere between the 10th and the 35th percentile for all things). Maggie IS, however, slowly climbing the charts. Woot! They’re still on their own growth charts though, so there’s no worries.

Burke’s Stats
Height: 41.5 inches
Weight: 35 pounds

They had eye exams and passed with flying colors…oh and that reminds me, they passed the “I’m not color blind” test as well – although, Maggie scared us for a minute. Turns out the test was wrong LOL!

Behold: The Power of Stickers

A little while ago Goddess mentioned putting together a sticker chart to make bath time easier. I’d been hearing about sticker charts and other things to encourage kids to do stuff (or not do stuff) since before having kids – but reading it over there kicked my butt into gear to create one for Burke and Marjorie. For what, you ask? Trying to keep the bed dry over night.

Has it worked? Mostly. More to the side of “yes!” … but I still have to say mostly.

Here’s the thing about sticker charts…Mommy has to remember to put the stickers on! Well, I have to remember to have the kids put the stickers on. And, for the most part, the kids would remind me…but on mornings when we’re rushing around trying to get to school on time, the sticker chart slides. And guess what happens when Mommy slides? Yep…the very thing the chart is used for tends to slide a bit. Oh, and sick kids tend to impact said chart as well.

Anyway … I’m actually really impressed with how well the kids are doing. It started out that they’d get one sticker if their pull-up was dry. Three nights in dry pull-ups meant they’d get to wear undies. A dry night in undies got them two stickers. Toward the middle of the month, we ended up changing to two nights in dry pull-ups…then removed the pull-up factor all together. I also got sick of the “in and out of bed” bed-time routine, so I promised another sticker if they stayed in bed all night (unless they really did need to use the potty!)

Oh, one other seemingly very important part is that I let them color the square in with a highlighter before applying the sticker.

Various Cute Things That Happened Today

Burke sang along in church today. He doesn’t have all of the words, but he gets the notes pretty darn close. And I’m pretty sure he’d never heard the song before (MAYBE once before…maybe.)

Maggie sings to herself allllll the time. She sings about what she happens to be doing at the moment. Even when she’s on the potty. “I’m peeeeeeing…on the pooooottttttttty” la la la (Kind of reminds me of the movie Elf…)

When the kids demand something, we give the hairy eyeball and that’s when they know (sometimes) to say “Please.” If, at this point, all they’ve said is please, we usually tell them, “please say the whole sentence.” Maggie was giving Burke Cheerios this morning, but making him ask for each one. When Burke would just say “please”, she’d parrot our mantra…to which Burke said, “The whole sentence.” Mike was so proud.

While we were out playing in the back yard today, Burke asked to pee in the yellow bucket. What *IS* it with boys and peeing in random spots? 😛

The kids (all 3!) attended their first baseball game today. We saw the Lowell Spinners (Red Sox Single A team) play Aberdeen. Burke was totally into it and grabbed a baseball hat on our way out the door (an old one of mine with a former work logo on it – we gotta get this kid a Red Sox hat!). He then proceeded to dance his way through the family-friendly, always-something-happening, tunes-rockin’ game.

Logan had his turn at dancing away as well. Maggie was just running back and forth making friends with anyone who would talk with her. My Twins group had purchased a block of tickets, so there were even other people there we knew.

On our way out, Burke spotted a “tractor” (Looked like a John Deere golf cart…). It happened to be heading into the parking garage we parked in, so we all jogged up the stairs and caught it on every floor. By the time the 3rd floor came around, the guys driving it realized what we were doing and gave a little wave. LOL! Burke wants to go back again. 🙂

When we got home, we saw our resident “Baby Bunny” in the yard. The twins, of course, took off after it. I think Baby Bunny is getting used to this though. He actually lets us get fairly close. We went inside in search of some carrots…when we brought them outside both Maggie and Burke were saying things like “Bunny!! Carrots for you!” and “Wooo Hoooo, Buuuuunnnnnny!” (at the top of their lungs). We finally convinced them that the bunny was scared of them and wouldn’t come out until we all went inside. I think it tickled Burke that something was scared of him…he repeated this numerous times.

…With a Chance of Showers.

Potty training is going pretty well. Maggie has gone for a few days without any accidents! And she even poos in the potty. I’m so proud 🙂

Burke doesn’t like to poo in the potty. At all. Lemme tell you – this is a fun stage. oy. He’d gotten pretty good at peeing in the potty and had even interrupted one of his “snits” to use the potty. Nice, right?

Today when I asked them both to use the potty before we went out to play in the back yard, he said “No. Pee in the grass. Like Daddy.” Uhm. I’m HOPING that he meant he wanted to pee in the grass standing up and not that he wanted to pee in the grass cuz he saw Daddy do this. (I’m fairly certain Daddy wouldn’t do this – perhaps in his former college days, but not now 😉 ) Needless to say, I didn’t let him pee in the grass. (We do have a potty in the back yard though, and he peed standing up into it…)

Since he’s been peeing “like Daddy” for the past few days, there’s no guarantee that he’ll hit his mark. I don’t mind that he wants to stand (it’s actually pretty cute), but it was definitely a bit neater when he would sit and “push it down.” He also thought it would be fun to pee on the rug yesterday. at my feet. naked. while company was here. *sigh* Sure – he hits THAT mark.

Success!

The twins did an excellent job with the potty training today!! An entire day in the same outfit…incredible. 🙂 Here’s to hoping we’ll have another day like that tomorrow.

The secret? Setting a timer for a half hour and having them sit on the potty every time it goes off. heh They’re both also getting really good at letting us know when they have to go. WOO HOO! Think of the money we’ll be saving if we can move away from 3 kids in diapers….

I’m not quite sure who is training who…but the twins are (finally!!!) showing an interest. Burke, of all people, is the one showing the most interest, and I thought he’d be the one to trail behind. I honestly don’t know if it’s the pennies we’re offering as incentive for each trip to the potty, or the fact that he can flush toilet paper down. (MAN are we going through a lot of water. The boy doesn’t listen to “Wait until you’re FINISHED …. before… flushing…too… late. *sigh*”)

Today started out as any other day. Burke didn’t want to wear his Spiderman pullups – he wanted his Finding Nemo panties (or, as Daddy keeps stating – UNDERWEAR. Perhaps we should have another boys vs. girls chat). Anyway … I warned Brenda (the nanny) about it, and as usual, we asked and asked and asked if he need to use the potty and he says no, no, no…and then pees in his pants. Yep – that happened this morning too. HOWEVER, Brenda came running upstairs around 3:00 to tell me that Burke asked to use the potty and then WENT in it! :O Color me happily surprised. And a big grin on his face too.

A few hours later he gets a look on his face “uh oh!” his shorts and (okay, okay) underwear are a little wet and he says “Potty!!” so we rush to the bathroom and I ask if he has any left. He says he does and sure enough! Out comes some more while he’s sitting there. (we do the sit-and-push-it-down thing right now. We’ll work on standing later!)

Later on, we all went outside to play in the water. (water table, kiddie pool, sprinkler…) I turn my back on them for 2 minutes to help Logan out and boom. Nekkid. BOTH of them. oy. Fine…we have a kiddie potty out there – I ask if they have to go. oh – hm…sure! And they BOTH DID!!! And then proceeded to run around the back yard nekkid as jay birds for the rest of the afternoon.

I was able to convince Maggie that it wouldn’t hurt as much going down the slide if she HAD HER PANTIES on. LOL But as soon as she went back to the kiddie pool, panties were thrown at mommy. “Put these on the chair.” mm hmm. One of these days we’ll work on starting out with “please” …
