This week’s theme is Silly Smiles. We had a little bit of a wait before Meghan’s graduation started, so we played with the camera a bit. These pictures are from that session.
Congratulations to Meghan – my baby sister – who graduated from High School last night!!
Meghan
Here’s a quick video of her walking across the stage:

I know that this post should be all about Meg … cuz it’s her graduation … but it’s my blog, so I’m going to have to write about how good the kids were! We brought all 3 kids with us, and even though the ceremony started right around bed time, they were *SO* good! There was some squirming (my GOD it was hot in that gymnasium), and some passing-of-the-kids among the adults…but it was all good.
Candid Carrie sponsors this one – head over to her blog and find LOTS of links for bloggers who’ve joined in! (You can join in too!)
Usually when we head to Vermont, we stay in my Dad’s guest room (Logan and me) and the Library (Mike, Burke, and Maggie). However, my sister just moved into her new house and out of the in-law apartment, so we’re in a new space this time.
We put Logan in his own room and the twins in the living room in the toddler sleeping bags with a blow-up mattress built in. There was another blow-up mattress for Mike to sleep by the kids later on (so they don’t freak out when they wake up in the morning).
This is what I found when I went in before I went to bed.
Note the discarded toddler sleeping bags on the left

Who says you have to be tall to play basketball? And…do you really have to use a hoop each time? Not according to Logan 🙂

I really need to get a phone with better video quality if I’m going to keep using it for these posts…Or maybe remember to bring my camera out more often…
Can you believe it? It’s been a whole year since I started blogging. I’m not sure if I’m surprised that an entire year has gone by, or if I’m amazed that it’s only been a year. Crazy 🙂
Happy Blogiversary to me!
One thing to note – I’ve never missed a day. Not one. I have at least one post for every single day of the past year. Oh sure – a few were pre-posted, but not many. And back in November when I joined up with NaBloPoMo, I felt guilty that I’d already been posting one per day that for many of those days I put two up! Yep. I’m crazy.
I just received this beautiful story – Dance Me, Daddy by Cindy Morgan – in the mail yesterday. The illustrations are just wonderful and the story is inspired by a song Cindy wrote called King of the World. I seriously had tears in my eyes while reading it (when did I get so sappy??)
I enjoyed the story, but I was surprised that it ended so quickly. I thought it would have a few more pages about the later-on-in-life aspect. This didn’t take anything away from what was already there, just my initial thoughts.
The best part? It comes with a CD! The song, King of the World, is performed by Point of Grace (see below, I found it on YouTube). This, too, brought tears to my eyes (seriously – do kids make you go sappy?? I used to be a hard-a$$, just ask my best friend…I never cried!) Anyway, I can totally see this song as a father/daughter dance at weddings.
And then Cindy herself reads the story with an instrumental version of the song in the background. As I said, I enjoyed the story when I read it (with my New England accent), but when hearing Cindy read it in her slight southern drawl, words rhymed! Words like “girl” and “world” – do those rhyme when you say them? I was quite impressed and it brought on a whole new level to the book.
To round it all out, there’s an interview with Cindy. I loved hearing about her inspiration for the song and how she presented it to her husband. She also talks about her children and the differences between writing and singing.
I get to give two of these gorgeous, hard-cover books (with CD!) away!!

Step 3 in our kitchen renovations! (Step 1 was new curtains. Step 2 was painting.) Step 4 – the biggie – is supposed to be happening next week. I’m.so.freakin.excited!!!!!
I’m going to use the “After” picture from the new curtain post as the “Before” one here.

Mike worked SO hard on this. (I helped a little bit, but he really did the lion’s share.) We used a product called Stripeeze to get all the white paint off…which really worked well – except in all the nooks and crannies of the window sill itself. That took a lot of elbow grease in addition to the Stripeeze.

My jaw dropped when I heard this from Maggie this morning: “Nancy, can you help me please?” Uhm…ya. That’d be Mommy, thank you.

Burke plays this cute game where he “glues” parts of your body (usually hands) and then sticks them somewhere … like together or to your arms or whatever. You have to play along and not be able to get unstuck until he squirts “water” onto said part. Many times, as soon as he “glues” my hands, I’ll be quicker than him and get stuck to his arms. A few days ago when we played, he did his usual “water” squirt but I told him that it wouldn’t work because I was stuck with Superglue. He just smiled and said, “But this is super water!”
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Stellar mommy moment: stapled the back of Burke’s bathing suit together so it wouldn’t fall down. (In case you’re wondering…it didn’t work very well.)

Is it wrong to put the TV on to distract the kids so I could try to finish my book? It was Sesame Street…

Something I never thought I’d hear myself say: “Burke! It’s not very smart to scare the cat when you have no clothes on!”

The theme this week is supposed to be jeans, but since I just posted them all in their jeans for Fx4, I’ll just put up pictures of the kids with our guest from last week – my Cousin Dave (oh, and Aunt Cathy too!).
