Staycation – Day 2

Today was an up and down day. There was: dinner and a movie (sorta), temper tantrums, house cleaning, and then a great gathering of wonderful ladies. I’m TIRED!

We took the twins to their first movie theater movie: Wall-E. It was pretty cute. Their attention was captured by it and they were very good through the whole thing (they ARE my little vidiots 😉 ). Burke got a LITTLE antsy toward the end, but he chowed down on popcorn and had a grand time. Logan stayed with the nanny (Brenda).

Then came the time to leave. . . screeching ensued. *sigh* It really makes me not want to bring him anywhere fun when he does this. (we had an episode leaving the park yesterday as well…) I really hope he grows out of this phase FAST.

We dropped them off at home with Brenda and hit home depot. Romantic, huh? 😉 And then went for an early dinner at the local Japanese Steak House. YUM-MY!! It’s so much fun to watch someone else cook your meal – and the guy was just a ham. It was so early that no one else was there for the entire meal LOL

We got home and I went into a cleaning/cooking frenzy while Mike watched the kids for a bit. Burke, was, again in fine form. *sigh* In a matter of under two minutes he bit Maggie, tried to pick Logan up by his head, and pinched me. Arg. If this kid lives until his 4th birthday, he’s going to be lucky. It’s a damn good thing he actually has GOOD moments that I try really, really hard to remember about during these episodes.

Then the ladies started to show up. I really love my Mothers of Twins group. 🙂 It’s such a great bunch of people who really just want to be there and offer support to anyone and everyone who needs it. I’m *SO* bad at this (looking at a room and figuring out how many people are there), but there were maybe 18 to 20 people in my living room. I’m so bummed though!! I made Chex Mix yesterday and forgot to put it out!! Oops. Ah well, the kids will like it…

And I’m surprised that we didn’t wake Logan up – we were kind of loud *blush* and I had thought we woke Burke up … who went over to bite Maggie to wake her up (cuz that’s what it sounded like from downstairs when I heard Maggie scream “BURKE BITE ME!!”), but it turns out that Burke wasn’t even awake…so maybe Maggie was just dreaming..? Strange dream though 😛

Okay – time to clean up…Mike’s done chowing down on the left-over goodies I had out.

Zoo – the Musical

While in Vermont for Easter, the kids had fun playing the piano with cousin Grey.

Sharon and Jason (Grey’s parents) got the kids a bunch of musical instruments for their 3rd birthday. The accordion is one that is used a *lot* (thanks Sharon 😛 )

Logan wants to get in on the fun. Luckily, Aunt Kahki sent this piano for Christmas. (He’s actually pretty good at pounding tunes out…)

And my sister Meghan’s band, Busted Brix, just hit YouTube!!

Staycation – Day 1

Today was the official start of our Staycation. YEAH! Mike actually announced yesterday that he didn’t have to go into work, so the unofficial start was yesterday. We kicked yesterday off with a FANTASTIC meal that Mike grilled up: Steak, hotdogs, keilbasa, potatoes, and green beans. Oh and corn we put on the burner. (Sounds familiar, right? this is a staple grilling meal for us 🙂 ) YUM-MY!!! Pan fried goodiness for the rest of the week. woo hoo!

To start the day today, Mike went in to work. heh … but no worries – this was planed. As a cancer researcher, he can’t let his cells die – so the plan is to split them today and Friday. He promises he won’t go in for the rest of the time though!!

We spent some quality time in the back yard and down at the playground today. I went grocery shopping and started cooking some things for the gathering of Moms of Twins here tomorrow night.

MAJOR cleaning session to happen a little bit later…

Rub a Dub Dub

Debi’s got another one going. 🙂

Here are Burke and Maggie in December of 2005. They had just received the tub seats for Christmas.

And here are Burke, Maggie, and Logan last month.

Logan usually gets his bath in the kitchen sink with mommy, and the twins are usually bathed by daddy, but this was one night when daddy had to work late and they all NEEDED a bath 🙂

Maggie’s Clues

As we were sitting down at lunch today, Maggie pointed into the kitchen and very excitedly exclaimed “A CLUE! A CLUE!!” Blue’s Clues is one of her favorite shows, so she pretends to see clues all the time…we usually play along and have a grand time, but this time she was more adamant than others. This is her view:

Mike went around pointing at various things but wasn’t getting it right…so he had her show him. This is what she saw:

For those of you who don’t know, on the show, when Blue is trying to give Steve a clue, this print is on it:

We thought that was pretty clever of her. 🙂

…or maybe she just watches too much TV since she was telling me yesterday that she was changing me into the following things: a frog, a sheep, a duck, Burke, Dragon Tails (another TV show), a butterfly, a bird, and then back into Mommy…only she had a “wand” in her had and was saying “Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo” each time. LOL!

Oh ya, and they were playing with their “Cinderellas” in the sprinklers yesterday:

We keep telling them that they are UMbrellas, but dang that’s cute!

Dear Grandma-

Grandma

Grandma at age 92

I miss you! I can hardly believe that it’s been 2 and a half years since I last saw you. Remember? We came up to visit and celebrate the twins’ first birthday. Maggie shared her prized boots with you. The kids got so hyped up on birthday cake that they couldn’t stop giggling. And Burke was crawling around in circles (in his diaper because his clothes were covered in cake). I’m so glad that they were able to meet you.

It breaks my heart that they won’t have any of their own memories of you and that Logan will never have the pleasure of meeting you. Oh sure, we have pictures around. Lots of pictures! And I talk about you to them so they know who “Great Grammy” is. And I know you see them. I know that you keep an eye on them all. And that’s really comforting.

What the..?

So, I’m pumping gas today and the pump asks for my zip code before the pump can be unlocked. Seriously?? The only thing I can think of is that people are trying to use, we’ll say borrowed, credit cards to purchase gas. Are people really doing this?? And how can I get in on that action? 😉 I actually felt a little violated. And c’mon people – if someone is going to go to the trouble of borrowing a credit card, all they have to do is hit this pump once and know that they’d now need my zip code with it…so the next card they borrow, they’ll go to the trouble of getting the zip as well!

And on the subject of “huh??” And borrowed credit cards…we have this AWESOME Chinese/Thai food place near us that delivers AND takes credit cards. I called them to place an order last week and put it on my debit card. The woman then asks for the 3 digit number on the back of the card. So, I get that this number is to verify that I actually have the card in my hand…but I’m thinking two things here. . . what good is this number if I have to give it out to everyone and their brother WITH the card number anyway?? And if I were borrowing this card, don’t you think I’d have the good sense to grab that number as well?

Okay…I think I’m done with my rant.

Friday’s Foto Finish Fiesta

Seems Fridays are the days when people ask you to join in on stuff…Candid Carrie does this one – head over to her blog and find LOTS of links for bloggers who’ve joined in!

One of my favorite fotos is when Burke asked to hold Logan for the first time.

(About two seconds after this was taken, Burke decided he’d had enough and “let go” – and this was before Logan had learned how to sit on his own! ACK!)

5 Things Friday

Cat does a 5 Things Friday and asked if people would like to do their own. By now you know I’m a joiner…so here goes! 🙂

5 Things you might or might not know about
my education:

  1. I started out in pre-school at a private school called the Otter Creek School. It was run by two couples: Stan and Priscilla, who were the pre-school/kindergarten teachers. And Anne and Marty who were the grade school teachers. When I finished 2nd grade, the school closed because one of the couples divorced (coincidentally, the same year my parents divorced AND they stopped the Easter Egg hunt at my church – my world was collapsing! …the things you remember…) Since it closed, that lead to…
  2. Starting 3rd grade in public school: The Vergennes Elementary School. Since Vergennes isn’t very big, I already knew a bunch of people who went there, so it wasn’t too traumatic. Elementary school went through 6th grade, so that lead to…
  3. Going to Vergennes Union High School. The high school was for grades 7 – 12. No middle school since, again, Vergennes isn’t that big. The average class size is around 100 kids – so you pretty much knew everyone in the whole school. (plus, my step-mom is the band teacher, so you get to know about more than you really ever want to 😉 Okay – I wanted to know. LOL)
  4. College was at Clarkson University. A small engineering school where the ratio (at the time) was 1 girl to every 7 guys. I started out as an engineer, but *hated* it. I really liked the school so I looked around to find something else and kind of fell into Technical Communication.
  5. After college, I’d have enough of school … for about a semester. When I was at Clarkson, my department chair had been asked if anyone would be interested in attending grad school. At the time I said no way, but then realized that I would be stupid to pass up an almost all expeses paid degree. So off I went to the New Jersey Institute of Technology and got my master’s degree in Professional and Technical Communication.

Stories

Instead of a post, I wrote a page that will hopefully show up on the right-hand side under “Who’s in the Zoo?”. However, I can’t seem to make the page ordering work right now so it’s considered a sub-page. We’ll see if I can figure it out 🙂

Part one of “our” story is The Meeting.

More to come!
