The Swing is Together!!

…but did I TAKE any pictures?? Of course not. I did not capture one minute of thier glee while sliding down the slide, or swinging in the swing, or sitting in the middle of the double-glider-type swing. Or when they figured out how to teeter-totter together…with Maggie waving each and every time she was at the top.

*sigh* Bad mommy πŸ˜›

Next step is to get a baby swing for Logan to put in the “trapese” place…cuz the kids couldn’t reach that anyway.

Puttin’ the Swing Together

…sorta. πŸ™‚

Mike and his Pop started to put the swing set together this afternoon. The reviews of this swing set state plainly that this (and others like it) are a PAIN to put together…and yup – they’re right! It’s just a lot of pieces and, as per typical of things like this, the instructions don’t REALLY instruct. (As a technical writer, I’m appalled that things like these are allowed to go out the door!!)

The kids had a blast “sliding” across the slide. They’d scoot from one end to the other, run around and start it all over again. Pretty cute.

Unfortunately, it got REALLY hot so they had to stop before passing out. And then it started raining cats and dogs – with thunder and lightning! So we’ll have to wait until tomorrow to finish it up. Luckily Mike’s Pop will still be here, as it’s definitely a two-person job, and so is making sure the kids stay out of the way πŸ˜‰

Burke and Maggie really wanted to help…and they really wanted to swing! They were really patient throughout the day too. I kept telling them that the swing set was still cooking…which is what we say when they’re waiting for their food, and they’re pretty good about that.

Keep your fingers crossed for us that we’ll have good weather to finish up tomorrow!

The In-Laws are Coming! The In-Laws are Coming!

Mike’s Pop and Step-mom are coming for a long weekend. I’m actually pretty excited – they haven’t met Logan yet, so it should be pretty fun.

Pop Pop (as he’s called by the kids) was here around this time last year, and I know Maggie *loved* sitting on his lap to have him read to her. Unfortunately, I was 8 months pregnant and was really bad about getting the camera out, so I don’t have many pictures of the stay! I’m hoping to be much better about it this time around.

5 Things you might or might not know about
Crafts I Miss:

(I say “Miss” because I haven’t been able to do any of them for quite some time.)

  1. Crocheting. I taught myself how to crochet in college after basic lessons from my mom when I was still in grade school. (She taught me how to do a granny square πŸ™‚ ) It’s one of my favorite crafts to do!
  2. Cross-Stitch. The counted kind. It’s probably a good thing I haven’t done this one in a while…it had started to hurt my wrists.
  3. Scrap booking. I believe that my scrap book is forever stuck half way through my honeymoon…
  4. Quilting. Okay, so I’ve really only done one quilt. And I haven’t even finished that one yet (*blush*) It was only started…oh, 6 years ago or so!
  5. Tatting. Okay, so I don’t actually know HOW to tat, but I had just started to teach myself how to do it after finding my Grandfather’s shuttle when life happened. (It’s HARD!!)

There’s talk of getting a Stitch ‘n B*tch “club” together at some point…I gotta get off my hiney and start that up! (I learned so much from the last one I belonged to – that’s where I started my quilt!)

Manny, Manny, Manny

You may or may not know that I’m a Red Sox fan. I don’t blog about them often (actually, ever) – but I have to try to sort through my feelings about “The Manny Trade” and figured this might be a good way to do it.

So … right now we’re hearing that he’s been traded in a three team deal. (Hansen and Moss are gone too). And We get Jason Bay. I know nothing about Bay…but it seems like that’s a lot of players leaving for what we are getting! I’m hoping that there are other things involved, but we just haven’t heard about it yet…

I’m sad that Manny is leaving because (when he actually plays) he’s a KICK BUTT hitter. And he brings humor to the game. I’m okay with him leaving because of some of the publicized antics lately (throwing a 60 year old man to the ground, b*tich-slapping Youkilis, among other things).

So. It’s too bad that a hall of famer is leaving us – but if he’s disrupting the team too much, or if he’s going to be a super diva – SEE YA. And let’s hope we won’t be playing against your team too often…

Proud

You’d think as a parent, I’d be writing about my kids with that title, but nope. I’m writing about my big brother πŸ™‚

Jim participated in his first triathlon over the weekend. The Heart Of Dixie Triathlon to be exact. He had to do a 0.5 mile swim, a 27 mile bike ride, and a 7 mile run. (All I’m thinkin’ here is OMG, OWW!)

This first-timer placed 28th overall (out of what looks to be about 235 people). And came in 4th in his age group. DA-AMN.

A quote from him:

All about what your friends can talk you into.

Uh. ya. *MY* friends couldn’t talk me into that LOL (and luckily for me, I’m fairly certain they wouldn’t try to either…)

GO JIM!! πŸ™‚

Confession

I have a confession to make. I can’t spell. (Are you now thinking, “Didn’t I read somewhere that she’s a technical writer?”) Yep. That’d be right. I’m a technical writer who can’t spell. Spell Check has saved my life (and my job!) Shhhhh! Don’t tell my boss!!

I only use Firefox as my browser because it has a built-in spell check. (Funny, Firefox comes up as spelled wrong LOL)

I was much relieved when one of my three IM’ing applications came out with a version of built-in spell check.

And I always have my email checked when sending work email. (Personal email is composed in the oft-mentioned Firefox. Blog entries are composed there too…)

I’ve been known to copy/paste into and from Word before sending something out (even a simple IM) so everything is spelled right! Anal. I know.

The things that really trip me up? Graphics software. I’m boogying along, manipulating some graphic and I have to add some text to it… BAM! Ah crap. How do you spell that?? And it’s not always easy to fix a graphic once you’ve got it all together. (I tend use Word as mentioned above. Then I save in layers and have “source” graphics so I can go back and fix text if I need to!) They need to add spell check to all graphics packages!

But spell check doesn’t catch typos that are actual words! Or homonyms. Don’t get me wrong. I know the difference between they’re, their, and there. (I also know that should be “among” because there’s more than two, but it looks funny, doesn’t it??).Β  I always write around effect and affect – because even if I look those up I still don’t know the difference. *blush*Β  I think I just got the hang of who’s and whose. Maybe. I use the common errors in English website a bunch, but probably not as much as I should. LOL

So, I guess what I’m saying is…if you see an error in my blog … feel free to let me know. I’ll be highly embarrassed (LOL!), but I’d rather fix it right away instead of finding it myself a few days/weeks/months/years later and wonder how many people noticed. πŸ™‚

Nature is Exploding!

Over the past few days, there have been various critters showing up in our back yard. Tonight we saw a big brown bunny hop from one back yard to another. (The twins ran after it and probably gave the poor thing a heart attack.)

And a (blue?) heron flew overhead – legs sprawled out impressively behind it.

Just after it, I saw a bright red cardinal. I just LOVE those πŸ™‚

We see a *FAT* squirrel all the time (feasting on the food my kids won’t touch, I’m sure.)

Yesterday, I witnessed a chipmunk disappear in the middle of our lawn and realized that he’s using an old (very deep) hole that the previous owners left when they removed the ham radio antenna poles.

And I took these photos from my front porch yesterday. The falcon sat on our fence for quite some time!

It’s not like having coyotes in your back yard in Vermont – but hey! it’s nature – and I’ll take it! πŸ™‚

“Be Purple, Mommy”

Maggie says this to me throughout the day: when I’m carrying her down the stairs, when I’m brushing her hair, if I’m about to tip something – or someone – over…

Each time she says it, it cracks me up – cuz I’d love to be purple for a day! And it’s one of her favorite colors (right there after pink – whose girly girl is this??), so how cool would it be to turn the favorite color of one of your kids (for a day, anyway)?

What she’s REALLY trying to say to me is what we say to her all day long: “Be careful, Mommy.” I love this colorful (pun intended) reminder to me – especially since she says it at the appropriate times.

So, yes, dear Maggie. I will be purple.
