New Header

Love it? Hate it? Bring back the old? Tweak it?

(I was bored tonight…)

Not sure how I feel about it yet.

Nancy and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day

Okay. So maybe it wasn’t as bad as Alexander’s…but it wasn’t a great one.

I should have known the stars wouldn’t be aligned today when Burke announced this morning that he wanted diapers because he wasn’t a big boy. (And perhaps I should have listened to him.)

My nanny was late…I’m still not sure if it was that the train was late, or she missed her usual one. I didn’t really ask though either.

It was super strange seeing all of the school busses on the road again.

Work wasn’t too bad – I actually got a lot done today.

I got home from work and Burke was naked from the waist down…and had apparently peed through his 3rd or 4th pair of shorts.

I asked the twins to pick up the play dough they’d left on the floor so that Logan wouldn’t eat it and they flat out refused. (After many requests, I did get Maggie to help me.)

About 2 minutes after I asked Maggie if she needed to use the potty, she peed all over the floor…without even an attempt to get to the potty.

I just put a whole load of the kids’ laundry in and found a bunch that I missed in the bathroom.

And I got two bills today that are significantly higher than I expected.

*sigh*

Mike’s mixed a lovely gin and tonic for me though – so I will go down that and then contemplate what to have for dinner.

4 Stinkin’ Days

I promised myself that I wouldn’t get worked up about this because it is so far away…but I. can’t. help. it.

As you may, or may not, know – Logan was born on September 4th. And what is the HARD-SET cut-off date for starting school in our community? You must be 5 on August 31st to start Kindergarten. Ya. He misses by *4* stinkin’ days. (Of course, he turns just 1 this year…but that’s beside the point!!)

As a parent, I have the choice to hold my kid back if I don’t think he’s ready for school. But I DON’T have the choice to start him “early” if I think he’ll be ready? What the hell? As I keep telling everyone, if this kid is anything like his daddy, he’s going to be super smart…so, what if that means he’ll be bored in school, and therefore gets into trouble?

I totally understand that parents aren’t always the best judge of what their kids can and cannot do – most parents think their kids sh*t roses and can do no wrong; but that shouldn’t mean that there’s a HARD-SET cut-off date. What about working with parents who think “hey – perhaps he IS ready” ..? Maybe talk with the pre-school teachers. Wouldn’t they know if the kid should go to school – even if he’s FOUR DAYS too young? Hell – give the kid a test of some sort. They test for everything else under the sun.

So now I don’t know whether to hope that the school system will listen to pleas from me, or if I should hope that Logan WON’T be ready.

Secret Blog?

A little while ago, one of the bloggers I read revealed that their significant other didn’t know about their blog. This made me pause a little since I know that Mike reads mine (almost) faithfully…and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I have to admit that I am sometimes a little careful about what I write because I know some of my audience (like, I try to not write about work AT ALL…), but for the most part – my blog is true to who I am. Do I sometimes wonder what it would be like to have a super secret, no-one-in-real-life-knows-me blog? Sure … but what the heck would I write in it? LOL

And I have to admit … when my “worlds” (blog vs. high school friends) collided, my brain definitely skidded. It’s really strange to have an actual voice that you’ve known for years and years that goes along with a blog.

But what I’m wondering is…is this common? Do many of you have secret blogs? Does your significant other know about your blog? Hmm…I suppose if you have a secret blog you could comment anonymously *grin*

(Do you now have Secret Agent Man running through your head, as I do?)

Growing Up

Needless to say, the kids are growing up. We knew it would happen, but sheesh – does it have to happen so fast?? Since the twins start pre-school in a few short weeks, this post is dedicated to the various things the kids are now doing.

Maggie

A few nights ago when I was moving her into her bed, she woke up just enough to make kissing noises so I’d kiss her goodnight. It was super sweet. 🙂

This morning we heard, “I can do it myself!” (I’m sure not for the last time.) And by gosh, she got dressed mostly by herself…with a few outfit changes. (She’s SUCH a girl!!)

Burke

He’s not always doing it, but he’s started to poo in the potty. YEAH!!

The same night that Maggie woke up briefly, Burke did as well. Only he requested “1, 2 McQeens” (two stuffed Lightning McQueen cars we have). He also requested to sleep on Maggie’s changing table. This kid is going to love bunk beds.

Logan

Whoo boy. I left the gate at the bottom of the stairs open by accident yesterday. And realized that Logan was being VERY quiet while I was catching the nanny up on the things going on that day. I heard a little stomp on the stairs and figured he’d be on the lower landing. Nope. He was ALL THE WAY AT THE TOP!!! Uhg.

The little monkey also climbs all the way to the top of the slide. The big slide. No fear in this kid yet…it’s a little scary!

He also waved goodbye to me the other day.

Uhm, Hello??

If you’ve read the Who’s in the Zoo? page to the right, you know that one of my “on-the-side” jobs is Administrative Assistant. One of the things my boss wanted me to do a few days ago was extend his promotion for super-fast internet though one of the cable companies. I called them up and, after a few run-arounds, found the person who could help me out. He said “Sure! I can do that. I just need you to verify the account for me.” (Who knew?? I gotta try that for MY bills!!)

Now, before requesting I call this cable company, my boss provided me with the account number, his address, and how much he was paying for the original promotion. What did the guy on the phone want? The amount of the last bill paid. You’ve got to be kidding me. It’s not like I’m here phishing: “oh, and what was the credit card number I used for that?” or “What was my billing address again?” no…I was simply trying to reduce a bill! So another day and another phone call later and I was able to do it.

On a related note…a few years back, Mike opened one of those zero interest balance transfer credit cards thingies – and it made sense to move the balance on my card over too. He had no problem transferring his own credit card balance over, but when the time came to do mine (his WIFE!!) there was a problem. Mike had all of the correct numbers and everything, but nooooo they needed verification. It so happened that I was standing right there and hopped on the phone. (I could have been ANYBODY though LOL). But seriously…he’s, in essence, PAYING OFF MY BILL. I’d approve on the spot even if it were a perfect stranger trying to do this! heh
