How To Keep a 4 Year Old In Bed

New sheets! (and comforter)

.

Princess Bedding

Last night marked the VERY first night that I didn’t have to move Burke into bed from the floor, or rocking chair, or some other spot he’d decided was a good place to sleep.

Baby Picture Sundays – Presents!

Debi hosts the Baby Picture Sundays. Hop on over there to see whoโ€™s playing, and join in too!

This week’s theme is Christmas Morning. This was the twins first Christmas (2005), they were one month shy of being a year old.

Can Ya Give Me A Hand Here?

Tinkerbells

Part of my conversation with Burke after school today:

Me: Did you guys sing today?

Burke: Yes!

Me: What song did you sing?

Burke: Tinkerbells!

Me: I don’t think I know that one. Can you sing it for me?

Burke: Yes!
(Breaks into song)
Tinkerbells, Tinkerbells, Tinker all the way….

Me: Uhhmmm….Are you sure it’s not Jingle Bells?

Burke: Nope…Tinkerbells.
(Breaks into song again…just to prove it.)

Okay then.

I have a very creative brother-in-law (he’s an art teacher). So any time we all get together, the kids – of course – have a BLAST. These pictures were taken at Thanksgiving of 2007. Jason decided he was going to turn the twins into dinosaurs with random things found around my Dad’s house.

Note the clever use of kitchen clippy magnets as the spine and the pop beads as the tail.

I believe Jason even did Maggie’s crazy hair.

AHHHHHH

"AHHHHHH!"

This went on for hours… ๐Ÿ™‚

You Know You’re Doing Something Right…

…when you hear your 4 year old singing along to Supertramp on the radio. ๐Ÿ™‚

Yesterday, while heading home from a Target run, I heard “Take the Long Way Home, Take the Long way Home, la la la”ย  HAH! Go Maggie ๐Ÿ™‚

Those Kids, I Tell ya.

Last night right before bed time, Mike and I were in the kitchen with Burke and Logan. I heard some rustling around, aย  little thump, and then a “Ahh! I’m stuck!!”ย  …guess who.

We walked around the corner and there’s Maggie, on the wrong side of the gate surrounding the TV (you’ve seen a picture of it here). She looked up at us and said “I turned the TV off!” LOL Mmm hmmm. So much for the gate.

This morning before school, Burke and Maggie were working feverishly to color and sticker a piece of paper. When it was time to leave for school, Burke declared that the picture was for Mrs. Teacher* and made sure to put it in his backpack. He presented it to her when we got to school and she was so happy she put it on the wall LOL. It was pretty cute.

*not her real name

Still a Little Girl

I took Maggie for a haircut on Thursday. (She had a dentist appointment as well – poor kid was on my lap in a chair all day!) When I mentioned that we were headed for a haircut, she very firmly stated that she wanted to keep all of her hair ON, thank you very much, because she wanted to stay a little girl. LOL First, it was the headband that “made” her a little girl, and now hair.

We walked into the salon – hand in hand – with her face getting whiter, and her voice becoming non-existent. I’d like to note that this wasn’t her first haircut – and that she’s been in THIS salon, with THIS beautician before. Ms. Haircutter went to work and Maggie still had a death grip on my hand…but she relaxed a bit when she saw not one, but two other little girls getting their hair cut on either side of her (and this isn’t even a kid’s place!)

Sparkly (shorter) hair later – she’s loving looking in the mirror and realized that *phew* she’s still a little girl.

Thankful?

One of the activities the twins’ preschool did over the past week or so was to make American Indian style necklaces. I use this term loosely because they were actually made out of string, paper feathers, and pasta. I caught where they were going with it though.

On the paper feather were the xeroxed words, “I am thankful for…” and then the teacher obviously filled in the blanks for the kids.

I saw Maggie’s first: “My mommy and daddy”ย  awwww!

Burke’s? “Myself.”

Okay then.

I’m Trying Not To Over Analyze

Right. As soon as you see that you know that this is exactly what I AM doing. Ah well…I figure if I write it out, I may figure it out ๐Ÿ™‚

My conversation with Maggie this morning:

Logan and Maggie were both sitting on my lap.
Logan was putting his feet on Maggie’s legs.
Maggie: Stop TOUCHING me!
Me: He’s okay… he’s not hurting you.
Maggie: I don’t like him.
Me: What?
Maggie: I don’t like Logan.
Me: But…he’s your brother.
Maggie: No. Burke’s my brother.

Ya. We chatted a little bit about how both Logan and Burke are her brothers. I asked once or twice why she didn’t like Logan, but she pretty much ignored me and I didn’t want to push it.

So what’s going through my head?

  • Well, that explains her indifference to him.
  • But I’ve seen her share the much-coveted Gold Fish with him…
  • Maybe she’ll like him better when they can actually PLAY together.
  • Maybe she doesn’t like him because he takes up much of mommy’s time.
  • Maybe she isn’t feeling well (I did keep her home from school today), and she doesn’t like ANYONE right now.

I chatted (quietly) with Brenda about it when she got here, so Brenda asked Maggie, “Where’s your brother?” and Maggie immediately pointed to Logan…so who knows.

****EDIT**** Maggie hugged Logan while he was walking toward us this afternoon. Perhaps she was just feeling snarky this morning. ๐Ÿ™‚

Way Back When-esday

Cheryl over at Twinfatuation hosts this one. Go on over to see who else is playing – and join in too!

Logan’s quest to walk reminded me of when Maggie was first learning.

Behold the Magic of Duckie

Behold the Magic of Duckie

She’d only let go if she had her Duckie. It had magnets in the feet so we could wrap it around her arm. Not sure why this was the magic feather, but it worked!
