Baby Picture Sundays – Mother’s Day

Debi hosts the Baby Picture Sundays. Hop on over there to see who’s playing, and join in too!

Today’s theme is Mother’s Day.

For Mother’s Day I got a lot of cards from the kids…Mike helped the kids pick some out, my nanny helped the kids make some, and the twins even made some at school!

Mother's Day Cards

I received a hammock a week early because Mike knew I’d be on vacation the week before Mother’s Day. I LOVE it. Unfortunately, the kids do too πŸ˜‰

My Mother's Day Present

My Mother's Day Present

Or is it for the kids??

...Or is it for the kids??

It folds up for easy storage and to keep it dry (if I remember to bring it out of the rain…oops!) and it attaches to the frame with two chains on both ends, so it doesn’t flip! Perfect for if you have little kids (or if, like me, you’ve flipped out of a regular hammock too many times to count…)

My other Mother’s Day present is huge. HUGE I say! You’ve gotten a glimpse of it in my last Fx4 post. More to come!

I Know it’s Nature…

I was happily munching away on my artichoke last night when all of a sudden I see a hole in some of the leaves. Huh. Wonder what THAT is…I poke around a little bit more and find a lovely little green worm. In my half-eaten artichoke!!! Eww eww eww eww eww!!!!!!

I know that these things grow … outdoors even … and I shouldn’t be too surprised to find a little critter every now and again, but it doesn’t mean I have to LIKE it.

Blog Farts

Blog Farts – noun. Def: Crappy ideas that are too short to make a real blog post, but when combined, join forces to make one unified, albeit half a$$ed, post. see also: memes, surveys.

I saw Blog Fart Fridays over on another blog. I love the term, but a.) it’s not Friday, b.) I don’t think I could do it every Friday, and c.) there are too many other things going on each Friday…so I’ll just “borrow” the term and give credit πŸ™‚

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Why do I have to wake the kids up at 7:00 on the days we have to go to school, but every other day they wake up on their own at 6 or 6:30??

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

While going in to comfort Logan at 3:30 last night, the word “Gargamel!” screamed through my head. No idea why. And no, I don’t think my youngest is an evil man plotting to rid the world of Smurfs.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

It’s incredibly hard to sing “The Goodnight Song” while hiccuping.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

I really enjoy the “hoopla” of Mother’s Day – but when I really stop to think about it, I’m super spoiled because I’m treated to a “Mother’s Year” by my family.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

I tried parking the stupid van in a tiny little spot at the Costco Garage last weekend…and finally just got out of the car to let Mike do it. Apparently, when Mike opened the door to let the kids out, he was mumbling something about how mommy had the car all kerfickled. (Pennsylvania-Dutch word??) Now Burke seems to think that I’m ‘carfickled’ (can’t park the car…)

In honor of my Dad’s birthday yesterday, he gets to be in this week’s WBW.

I have no idea when this was taken. I’m guessing I was 3 or 4 though. (1978?)

I’m a Snob

Yup – you read that right. I AM a snob. More specifically…I’m a brand name snob.

Clothes? Ya right…the only “brand” I go for there is “Red Sox”Β  LOL. Other than that – if it fits, I’ll wear it.

Shoes? Mmm…nope. If they’re comfy and cheap – I’m all over that.

So…what am I a brand name snob about? FOOD. I’ll pass over all those store-named (generic) brands in favor of my favorites. Every time. I’ve felt my hand linger over a generic food before, but inevitably, it’s always passed over for MY brand. Jif peanut butter, Smuckers Red Raspberry Jelly (with seeds), Cheerios, Kraft Mac & Cheese, Lipton iced tea…

It took me forever to gather up enough courage to try out the Costco brand things. (Kirkland is their brand name…not sure why it’s not just “Costco” … but perhaps that’s for a different post πŸ˜‰ ) And the first brand name thing I tried was non-food (baby wipes, to be exact….love them!) And honestly, the only Kirkland brand thing I’ve tried and haven’t been impressed with is their pizza. I suppose part of the reason their brand is so good is because they partner up with actual brand names…sometimes you know, sometimes you don’t. For example, I know that the Kirkland brand coffee is actually Starbucks. But I only THINK the Kirkland brand chicken is Perdue.

Is the generic brand really all that different than my brand? I’m sure in some cases yes, and in some cases no…but am I willing to figure it out? With the exception of Costco…nope.

Anyone know of other generic brand names that might be worth the switch?

Amazing Opportunity

Have you heard of Susan M. Heim? The one who wrote the following books:

  • It’s Twins! Parent-to-Parent Advice from Infancy Through Adolescence
  • Oh, Baby! 7 Ways a Baby Will Change Your Life the First Year
  • Twice the Love: Stories of Inspiration for Families with Twins, Multiples and Singletons
  • Boosting Your Baby’s Brain Power

She also founded TwinsTalk and has written many articles for many magazines – both online and paper.

Do you have a question you’d like to ask her?

I have the opportunity to chat with her on the phone or send her a few questions via email (I’m not sure which one I’ll do yet – it may depend on the questions I/we come up with…and if I can get over myself and find the guts to use the phone…). I’d love to hear if any of you have something you’d like asked. No guarantee that I’ll be able to get to all of them – but I can try!

Please send your question(s) directly to me. Thanks for helping me out!

Ohh…and I also get to review her newest book, Chicken Soup for the Soul: Twins and More. How cool is that?! You’ll see the review here sometime next month.

This one comes from 1983. I was in the 3rd grade and had just switched from a private school that closed (the teachers decided to get a divorce) to the public school.

A few things happened to cast me as Annie in the school musical of the same name: one of my private school teachers ended up being the music teacher at my public school, so she knew me; and the person who was originally cast as Annie moved away.

Now…before you get all impressed, let me explain that an elementary school “musical” is really just the music teacher assigning songs from the musical to the different classes and having those classes get up on stage to sing them in the right order. I just got to sing with more than one class (and may have had a solo or two πŸ™‚ )

Removing the XL

As you probably know – either because you know me, or you’ve read previous posts (Bad Haiku Friday, this particular FX4, My Favorite Food: A – Z, 2008: International Year of the Potato…) – I *LOVE* potatoes. Favorite food – hands down. French fries are right up there with my mostest favorite-est.

As you probably also know, I’ve been trying to shed some pounds lately (19 of those nasty little things gone since November, thank you very much!). I’ve been keeping track with that ticker over there on the left-hand side.

So…it should come as no surprise that while I haven’t given up french fries, I have tried to limit my intake. IfΒ  we go to a fast food place with the kids, I usually try to order the small sized fries. In theory, this is wonderful; I’m still getting those tasty little suckers, but I’m not ingesting the extra large box o’ fries. In theory.

What I’ve come to notice is that those small sizes are usually paper pockets…teeny tiny paper pockets. Pockets that hold only teeny tiny french fries. French fries that are so crisp, they could pass as potato chips. Apparently, all of the long succulent fries – crisp on the edges, but oh-so-potatoey on the inside – fall out and wait for those larger sized cardboard boxes.

So the question becomes, do I suck it up and try to enjoy the crispy ones, or do I ignore the whole “those aren’t good for you” thing and order a larger size? Torture.

I met up with Goddess in Progress, Rhonda, Mommy, Esq., Snickollet, Sotoriffic Twins, and What A Card last night for some drinks. What a blast we had! I had met everyone before (Snick only in passing), but it was so great to get us all together and just….talk and talk and talk. Since we all read each other’s blogs, we pretty much all “know” what’s going on – so it was like old friends meeting for a monthly (or even weekly) drink! I certainly hope we do it again πŸ™‚

Here’s a few pictures…I’m not telling who’s who – cuz a few of us don’t post pictures on our blogs. (ya – that wouldn’t be me…you all know what I look like – which is good because the one picture I’m in, the waitress cut half of me off!)
