For the mommy meme I posted yesterday, I had my nanny take a bunch of pictures…this one didn’t make the cut because Maggie ran away at the last minute.

Giovanna tagged me for this one. I like her answers πŸ™‚

First: Post a picture of you and your kids. Since I’m usually the one behind the camera, I had my nanny take a few when I got home from work today.

Second: Answer the questions.

  1. How many children do you have?
Three – B/G twins and another boy
  2. What are their ages?
The twins are 3 1/2 and the other one just turned 1
  3. What time of day do you start your day?
As late as possible. The kids wake up anywhere between 7:00 and 8:00.
  4. What do you eat for breakfast?
A bagel and coffee – in the car.
  5. Do they watch TV?
The twins do. Probably more than they should.Β  The little guy isn’t into it.
  6. What are their favorite activities?
The twins *LOVE* to color. Logan loves climbing…and giving his mom a heart attack.
  7. Do you get a break during the day from them?
Almost too much of a break since I work full time.
  8. How do you end your day?
Eating dinner and watching TV with my husband (we’ve been really into Ghost Hunters and America’s Got Talent lately).
  9. What is your best parenting advice or tip?
Parent TOGETHER. Even if you disagree with what the other one is saying, hold your tongue in front of the kids and discuss it later. Back each other up…My husband is always saying “You heard your mom…” LOVE that.

Third: Tag 5 people.

Is It Just Me?

So, the other day I’m cruising through my day and all of a sudden I stop cold. Did I brush my teeth today?? I honestly don’t recall doing it. Quick slide of the tongue over the teeth…they feel pretty smooth and squeaky clean…at least, no different than normal after the usual cup of coffee or two…but that may be due to our new kick-butt toothpaste. DAMN! I really can’t remember!

There would be, of course, an easy solution to this…just brush ’em again, but that’s not the point. What if I really didn’t?? How many people had I “close talked” with?? Was I all stanky and yellow? ACK!! Who the heck can’t remember if they haven’t brushed their teeth?

…and then I realize that I’m lucky if I remember to change out of my PJs and brush my hair. Oh crap. Did I?

Milestones

The twins had a GREAT day today at school. They were so excited when I went to pick them up. Burke was talking a mile a minute (surprisingly, Maggie was pretty quiet). They colored, and played with sand, and made bracelets, and went outside, and peed in the potty…sounds like a cool day to me!

We were in the car on the way home and I started talking about Burke’s speech class – which started about an hour after school ended. Burke didn’t want to get out of the car because he wanted to go see Miss Sun* – too cute!! I resorted to bribing him to get him inside the house.

While driving back from speech class, Burke pretended to fall to sleep in his car seat (with a cute little smile on his face). I asked if he was tired and he said, “yes.” I asked if he wanted to take a nap and he said, “yes.” He hasn’t really napped in over a year! And he actually did fall to sleep for about 20 minutes around 4:00.

The only way I got him to wake up was the promise of (yet another) car ride. (We had to go exchange some shoes that I got for the twins – I over estimated their growth.) Both kids wanted shoes that light up. LOL I recall thinking before I had kids that I’d never be the kind of parent who gets light-up shoes for my kids…mm hmm. Both Burke and Maggie were jumping all over the house with their new shoes on tonight. (I took a video, but it’s still on my camera.)

In Logan news…Burke has this habit of saying “Hi Logan!” over and over again – with his face right in Logan’s face. This morning, Logan very clearly said “Hi!” back to him. Pretty cute πŸ™‚

Logan was also pretty darn squirmy while nursing tonight. We’d cut it down to just nursing right before bed (forgot to nurse him when he woke up on his BIRTHDAY of all days…ooops! BAD mommy!). Squirmy while still attached just isn’t pleasant, so I bagged that and went to get the sippy cup. . . we will probably just end up doing the sippy from now on, which is just fine – he IS 6 days over a year old πŸ˜‰

*Name has been changed...

No Tears!

At least…not that I saw before I left the kids at their FIRST DAY OF PRE-SCHOOL! Not even any from mommy. I’m sure it has nothing to do with me being totally emotion-less, and more to do with me having to leave them with the nanny while going to work. I have to admit, it DID seem different, but it was all good πŸ™‚

Maggie walked in, put her backpack in the spot marked “Maggie,” walked over to the table and started coloring. Burke was a bit more apprehensive and stayed by my side while I was talking with their teacher about their extra clothes and snacks and stuff.Β  And he wanted to check his backpack to be sure that his snack pack was there. I walked him over to the table, he sat down next to Maggie, saw that it was a school bus they were coloring and perked right up. I kissed ’em both on the head and got the hell outta Dodge before they could realize what happened. πŸ˜‰

We’ll see what happens when I go pick them up in a few hours.

Oh, and when I got home, Logan was happily playing with ALL of the toys.

Pre-School: What a Card – she doesn’t stand a chance with the president, VP, and membership chair there. . . we’ll have her signed up in no time! LOL And I can totally see how the director would confuse us *roll eyes here* ♦ Oh, Cheryl, it’s so good to know that I’m not the only one who photographs the magnadoodles too! ♦ Debi – You’re RIGHT! I knew that picture Burke drew reminded me of something…

This was taken just after midnight by one of the nurses in the NICU. The twins were 12 days old.

Pre-School

There was an open house for the twin’s pre-school yesterday. The whole fam-damily attended πŸ™‚ Mike hadn’t seen the school before, so it was neat that he was able to go too.

When we got there, the yellow room (the one they’ll be in) was pure pandemonium. The room is used for one class M-W-F and another T-TH, so there were students from both there – along with at least one parent, and quite often a sibling or two. They attempted to split the 2 hour open house into two parts; first half of the alphabet goes the first hour, second half goes the second hour. I’m not sure if that really happened, but I’m sure sort of helped. Needless to say, a wee bit overwhelming. Both Burke and Maggie hung close for a while. Maggie ventured out first (surprise, surprise), and Burke warmed up and played after a bit. The teachers were super nice and it was really good to see that a few former students came in just to say “hi.”

We wandered around the building for a little bit so Mike could see the library, the gym, and the playground. I went up to reception to pay for the month and when I got back to the yellow room the director told me that the rest of my family had gone to visit the blue room. heh okay. She wanted me to meet her daughter-in-law though. She has twins who are in the T-Th session…but the poor woman doesn’t belong to a twin club! I’m not sure if the director knew about my tendencies to “twin stalk” since I’m our membership chair, but I think that may have been what she had in mind. We’ll see if it worked πŸ˜‰

I went over to the blue room and the only ones in there (besides the two teachers trying to clean up) were my family. LOL No wonder they went over there. Nice and calm. All three kids were playing with the kitchen and didn’t want to go. I suppose I take this as a good sign. πŸ™‚

This morning when Burke woke up, this was the first thing he said to me:
Burke: In the car.
Me: Where do you want to go?
Burke: Blue room.

LOL! He settled for going to the yellow room tomorrow.

Oh, and I almost forgot. Mike told me that Penzey’s isn’t really his secret to good food from the grill. His TRUE secret is to take the food OFF when it’s done. Funny man.

I Was Carded: What a Card – do you have three sisters and a brother too? Too funny…wonder what else we have in common πŸ™‚

Good Food: Ooooh Apple Pie Spice! I’m going to have to try that one, Tanya! My mouth watered just reading about it.

Is it REALLY Green: Thank goodness, the twins are this > < close to being potty trained. (Except that Burke pee’d on the floor today.) But Gio, I still have Logan…so the diapers continue for a while. *sigh* MultipleTwinMommy, what do you use instead of a diaper pail? And are all 4 of yours still in diapers? Geez…I just can’t even imagine. You rock πŸ™‚ LOL Jon, you’re probably right! I thought about cloth diapers – for about 2 seconds, Heather, but I just couldn’t wrap my brain around having to deal with poo other than wrapping it up and putting it away. Too funny about the kitty litter though! heh Ya, Laura, someone should do some research and figure out what really IS green and what does the most good vs. just doing lip service.

HAPPY

Happy Birthday (Aunt) Lynn!

I’m so glad that you and Jim had fun in Norway…(and yes, a wee bit jealous too πŸ˜‰ )

I hope we get to see you soon!

Is It REALLY Green?

We’ve had the Diaper Dekor Plus diaper pail since the twins were born. We even got a second one when Logan was born. (And we moved, so there are now two bathrooms – a Dekor in each works pretty well since you never know where you’ll be changing diapers.)

Anyway … about 9 months ago or so, the company decided to go “green” and use biodegradable bags in the pail. My first thought was, “hey – that’s pretty cool.” But there are so many things wrong with this. The biggest being that they do not contain the smell as well as the old bags. Lovely. The next problem is the packaging…there are now 2 refills in each box rather than 3 – the price did go down a little, but not THAT much. Wonderful. The other thing very wrong with this is if you start to think about it…it DOESN’T make sense! I’m all for going green when you can…and doing little things here and there makes a big difference. But…the bags are supposed to hold DIAPERS. Probably the biggest non-green things out there. So now what’s going to happen? The bags are going to biodegrade and spill out these stanky things everywhere? No thank you!

What were they THINKING??

HAPPY

Happy Birthday (Aunt) Cathy!!

Thanks for always helping out with the kids πŸ™‚

I’m really glad that we’ve grown closer over the past bunches of years – who knew when I was screaming “You’re not my mother!!” while we were younger and you’d be telling me what to do, that I’d evenutally get over it and we’d be pretty good friends! LOL
