This and That

Birthday Stuff

Thank you everyone!! I kind of figured that I’d be staying, but didn’t want to assume. You guys rock.

And when we went shopping, the kids actually picked out one thing to give to the birthday boy – that was too expensive for one kid to give, so I guess this year (this party, at least) we’ll do the joint thing and then re-evaluate next time. Bia, I like the one gift with two separate parts idea! Hmm. Just got Lori’s comment…I sure hope that the mom doesn’t decide to give them just one piece of cake to share …because the gift is pretty cool (if I do say so myself.)

And I think I’d be more worried about keeping the kids “separate” with different identities if they were both boys or both girls, but I really don’t worry about that right now.

Hm. that reminds me, I still need to RSVP :”>

Bitter Sweet

What a Card loaned us her Firefly discs. I knew going in that I was setting myself up for heartache since the series only lasted one season (if that)…but I kept hearing about how great it was, so Mike and I watched them all. We got ready to watch what we thought was the final episode last night (4 discs with around 4 episodes each)…only to discover that the episode we watched the night BEFORE was the last one, and the last entry on this disc was the Special Features. (Probably would have helped if I had read the back cover, but I don’t like to spoil things!) The special features were cool too…and I guess it was good that we didn’t know that last episode was the last one until after the fact, but man. I wish this show were still on! (I blame Fox’s marketing…I’d never even HEARD of this show before.) I think I saw that there was a movie made…guess we’ll have to check that one out.

Oh – and if you’re wondering what the “sweet” part of this thought is – it’s that Mike and I can now go to bed at a decent hour instead of being sucked into watching another episode ๐Ÿ™‚

Man. Itโ€™s been a while again! Sorry!

Fx4:Thanks for all of the Big Crayon ideas! I had no idea that there were so many out there…I’ll have to take Burke (and Maggie) to A.C. Moore (Thanks, Rhonda).

Is It Just My House: Again, good to know that it’s not just me…What a Card – I had similar thoughts about the carbon monoxide detector, and also figured it’d be beeping bloody crazy if we were supposed to get out of the house โ™ฆ Mommy, Esq. – while it sounds like your system might be wonderful in an actual emergency…how annoying when it’s not! wow. โ™ฆ Jon, how did I know you were going to ask why it was on the bookshelf. ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m actually not sure why it’s there…perhaps we changed a battery and never put it back where it was supposed to be? I’ll ask Mike ๐Ÿ™‚ โ™ฆ Debi, I know!! I have wondered that as well! It’s like when I have to be out of town, I always wonder if Mike will wake up if one of the kids is hollering, since I usually have to poke him.

Feeding Himself: Gio – I was actually surprised! Logan wasn’t that messy. I mean, his hands and face were … but I’ve definitely seen him MUCH messier – so clean up was a breeze ๐Ÿ™‚

You Know It’s One Of Those Days When…: Angela – yes. I do believe that means you need new undies ๐Ÿ™‚

The Ending Was Pretty Sweet Too: What a Card – I KNOW!! I totally feel like I’ve done something wrong when I “miss” a turn. Of course, I was doing it on purpose to see what would happen…but still!

Is It Just Me?: Just to clarify – anyone’s welcome at any time! My only stipulation is to call first to see if we’re home ๐Ÿ˜‰ โ™ฆ Mop Mop and Pop Pop, I’m so glad that you’re enjoying the blog ๐Ÿ™‚ And I’m so happy that you left a comment! I had thought you were reading, but it’s good to KNOW that you are.ย  I hope you two continue to enjoy it ๐Ÿ™‚

I Blame the Cheese: Funny, Jon ๐Ÿ˜› โ™ฆ Cat – Tonsils, huh? I’m going to have to check into that!! Maggie has a dental appointment in a month or so – I’ll see what they have to say too.

Year of the Potato: Lori – oooh mashed potatoes. I haven’t given those to the kids in a LONG time…great reminder, thanks! (I know – where IS my head??) โ™ฆ Cheryl – Half baked. LOL! โ™ฆ Bob – That’s it! I’m movin’ to Idaho! โ™ฆ Jon – I know. I should probably give up my title, huh?

First Birthday Party

It was bound to happen. I couldn’t hide them from it forever…and now that the twins are in preschool, they’ve been invited to their first non-family birthday party. And I have no idea what to do.

I suppose I should just go ahead and ask the mom who is throwing it, but I thought I’d ask you guys too *grin*

So…I’m thinking that a joint gift from the twins is okay..? As long as it’s a little bit more than if we sent just one kid to the party..? And speaking of that…what’s the acceptable/expected amount we’re SUPPOSED to spend on a gift?

And … at this age, am I expected to stay for the party, or just drop the kids off and bolt? (It’s at the boy’s house.) Do I offer to help? And if I offer to help, what happens if Mike has to work and I need to bring my 1 year old along as well – is that frowned upon?

How long do these things usually last?

Any other wise words of wisdom from all you seasoned moms out there?

2008: International Year of the Potato

For those of you who know me … you’ll understand why this is a big deal. Although, I’m not sure why I didn’t hear about it until October! (Thanks to Sharon for bringing it to my attention. ๐Ÿ™‚ )

Seriously – an entire year dedicated to the potato. What heaven. What bliss! (ha! No pun intended – really.)

Sharon also brought a potato song to my attention:

I Blame the Cheese

Mac & Cheese, string cheese, American cheese, yogurt. (Okay, that’s not cheese, but I’m sure it contributes.)

My not-quite-4-year-old daughter has BAAAAD breath. She brushes her teeth twice a day – we help. I even brush her tongue. No dice. I don’t want this beautiful girl to go through life making everyone pass out around her along the way…any ideas?

Is It Just Me?

I recently had this conversation with myself. (Don’t worry, it was all in my head.)

Me: I wonder why so-and-so hasn’t come over in a while.

Self: Have you invited so-and-so over lately?

Me: No, but they should know that it’s always an open invite to our house.

Self: Have you been there lately?

Me: No.

Self: Why not?

Me: I haven’t been invited.

ohhhhhhh.

Push Me Burke

Push Me, Burke!

The Ending Was Pretty Sweet Too

I had a really relaxing, wonderful birthday ๐Ÿ™‚

Mike had to work late (teaching his lab), which turned out to be okay because I was on the phone all night anyway. My best friend called this morning; my brother called this afternoon; my dad, step-mom, andย  not-quite-2-year-old nephew called and left a message while I was putting Logan to bed (they sang Happy Birthday to my voice mail…until Grey hung up on it ๐Ÿ˜‰ ); my younger sister (Grey’s mom) called on her way back to Vermont; my little sister left a message on MyFaceSpaceBook; my older sister called tonight; and my mom called too! *phew*

I had a cream cheese and jelly sandwich and a side of steak fries with vinegar. YUM! And didn’t feel guilty about not having a “real” meal … cuz it was just me *grin*

When Mike got home, he had me open a VERY cool present. A Garmin GPS!! I won’t get lost – ever again! WOO HOOOOO! Now, I just gotta figure out how to use all the cool stuff it does. Apparently, it’s an MP3 player and I can download audiobooks and a whole slew of other things. (It’s charging right now – otherwise, I’d be playing rather than blogging.)

I also had … more cake. And even shared some with Mike ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you to everyone for your wonderful Birthday wishes – you all make me smile, and I’m glad to know you!!

A Great Way to Start the Day!

I woke up this morning to Mike trying to get the kids to sing Happy Birthday to me … being the morning kids that they are (I don’t know WHERE they get that ๐Ÿ˜‰ ), I got a few mumbles…but they actually did sing a little later on. ๐Ÿ™‚

And then when Brenda (the nanny) got here, she came bearing a cake! The kids sang Happy Birthday (again) and begged for cake. . . so we all ate cake for breakfast. And boy was it GOOD. Logan was in heaven. LOL

The best part? Now that they’re all hopped up on cake, I’m upstairs working (ah, blogging), while the hyper kids are all downstairs with Brenda! LOL

About a half hour after I came upstairs, Brenda came up to show me what Maggie had drawn:

M is for Mommy

M is for Mommy

Then I check my email and I see that Cat has left something for me on her blog! What fun!

It’s called Playing Tag with Memory Loss – perfect ๐Ÿ˜‰

The instructions are these:

* Go to your Sixth Picture Folder then pick your Sixth Picture.

* Pray that you remember the details.

* Tag 5 others.

Since I have been fairly good at moving my pictures to DVDs or Flash drives, I was a little worried that I wouldn’t have a sixth folder. Silly me, my procrastination paid off this time…I totally need to back my pictures up!! I was also worried that it might be a terrible, awful, playing with the camera, really bad hair day and still in my PJs picture that was the 6th one. Lucked out here ๐Ÿ˜‰ It’s also not a picture you’ve seen before!

Lgoans Baptism

Logan's Baptism Day

This was taken right before we left for church to get Logan Baptized (5.25.08). We were at my Dad’s house because we wanted him to be Baptized in the church I grew up in, Mike and I got married in, and the twins were Baptized in. Plus, we love the minister ๐Ÿ™‚ย  (He happens to be my Dad’s best friend, and my best friend’s Dad!)

Now – I tag:

You Know It’s One Of Those Days When…

…half way through it you realize you’ve had your underwear on inside out the whole time. *sigh*

Anyway…I’m in NO WAY a political person, but this was forwarded to me in an email and I laughed, so I thought I’d share.

Post Turtle

Suturing a cut on the hand of a 75-year old Texas ย rancher whose hand was caught in a gate while working cattle, the doctor ย struck up a conversation with the old man. Eventually the topic got around to ย Sarah Palin and her bid to be a heartbeat away from being President.

The old rancher said, ‘Well, ya ย know, Palin is a post turtle.’

Not being familiar with the ย term, the doctor asked him what a post turtle was.

The old rancher said, ‘When ย you’re driving down a country road and you come across a fence post with a turtle balanced on top, that’s a post turtle.’

The old rancher saw a puzzled look on the doctor’s face, so he continued to explain. ‘You know she didn’t get up there by herself, she doesn’t belong up there, she doesn’t know what to do while she is up there, and you just wonder what kind of dumb ass put her up there to begin with.’
