Plans of Returning to Work – Thwarted.

I was so psyched to head back into work today – it’s been a long time since I’ve actually been AT the office. However, a certain little boy – who was kept home from school yesterday – decided that he couldn’t stop coughing this morning.

Yep. Headed to the Doctor’s office instead of the office. Poor Burke has an ear infection. And is now on meds for 10 days. 😦

I really hope he’s feeling better by tomorrow – it sucks to be sick on your birthday!!

Way Back When-esday

Cheryl over at Twinfatuation hosts this one. Go on over to see who else is playing – and join in too!

The year the twins were born, they were tiny. In an effort to track at least a little growth, we took the following pictures of Burke:

2.2.2005 - 10 days old

New New New!!

Two new things today!

First – The new nanny is here!!!

You have NO idea how incredibly psyched I am right now.

She showed up early! All three kids seem to be taken with her already. (MAN, that was quick.) Her first language is Portuguise (and some Spanish) but her English seems to be okay…meaning I think she’s understanding what I’m saying. (She’s pretty quiet, so I’m guessing that she’s not very confident in her own English, but her comprehension seems to be just fine.) Time will tell about that one.

I know that she’s also tickled that if she speaks to the kids in Spanish, they’ll understand everything she says. I know that makes her feel better about things. It’s funny though, she’ll speak to them in Spanish, but they’ll answer her in English. LOL

Second – I have a new “home office” !!!

We hit Ikea over the weekend and picked up a desk and chair for me that fits as a bed-side table as well. (not a *lot* of room there, but I’m loving this already.)

desk

And holy cow – Ikea?? crazy, crazy place. There are security people on site to help you park. And then, the building is as large as a mall (at least, the ones in Vermont 😉 ) – 3 stories! I’m still not sure what was on that first floor. You go up to the 3rd floor to shop around. You can pick up the small things there (we got a shoe rack, and kid plates and utensils), and then look around at the larger stuff put together. You take down the aisle and bin number and then head to the second floor to grab the boxes (we got the desk, a chair, and a kid table with 2 chairs).  All this for CHEAP (under $160). And they have a cafeteria as well. All 5 of us ate for under $20 – and the food was good.

I’m fairly certain that we’ll be heading back at some point for a dining set.

Even MORE Snow

Okay – so this is getting crazy. Poor Mike shoveled *three* times within the last 24 hours. He estimates about 18 more inches of snow. It’s gotten so bad, that the mound of snow he’s piled up from the driveway has gotten too high, he has to walk each shovel-full around it to throw it on the other side.

Maggie decided this morning that she was going to go out and help daddy shovel – but her shovel is buried somewhere under all that new snow (oops!), so I gave her a serving spoon. She loved it. heh

Burke decided to lounge on the couch instead of going out – I have to assume that he’s not feeling well. (His nose is running non-stop, so it’s probably better that he stayed in anyway.)

I didn’t take any pictures because I’m sick of the snow, and sick of the snow pictures 😉

Baby Picture Sundays – Fun in the Sun

Debi hosts the Baby Picture Sundays. Hop on over there to see who’s playing, and join in too!

While there may not have been any sun, these two still had lots of fun 🙂

Lip Balm – Curse or Cure?

On any given day, you’ll probably find 3 or 4 sticks of lip balm on my person.

In my pocket right now is a fantastic one that I received in my stocking: Time & Again Sparkling Fruit. In the front pocket of my purse is the Blistex Melon Medley. Inside my purse is the Blistex Complete Moisture. I have Blistex Moisture Splash in my cosmetics bag. (Along with a Burt’s Bees Shimmer, a Softlips, and Mary Kay’s Satin Lips.) As you can see – I’m obsessed.

But…I have to wonder if it’s a case of “the more you put on, the more you’ll need” – something like, your lips stop “making” their own protection because they’re so used to it being right there for them all the time. Something to ponder.

Friday’s Foto Finish Fiesta

Candid Carrie sponsors this one – head over to her blog and find LOTS of links for bloggers who’ve joined in! (You can join in too!)

This edition is brought to you by Burke (with Maggie’s Camera).

There were lots of giggles when Burke was trying to take pictures of Maggie jumping on the couch:

The Same, But Different

Right before Christmas, I bought new shoes for Burke and Maggie to wear to church. Maggie’s are cute (fake) patent leather-type ones that look cute with dresses and dressier clothes. Burke’s are dark, no character, not-quite sneaker sneakers. I’ve been letting Burke wear his new shoes to school because well, it just makes sense. I have only been letting Maggie wear her’s when she’s got dressier-type clothes on because, well – they’ll just look silly with jeans or sweats!

This morning, Maggie got really upset that Burke could wear his new shoes and she couldn’t. I promised that while she was at school, I’d go out and get her some new sneakers (because, frankly, her old ones stink.) That calmed her down enough to get everyone to school.

Logan and I hit Target and I got Maggie new sneaks. Burke was livid. He wanted new shoes too – even though the ones on his feet are pretty much brand-spankin’ new. *sigh*

So now I’m wondering – do I always have to get BOTH of them something new at the same time? Are they ever going to “get” that sometimes one of them will need something that the other one won’t? (So…what just pops into my head?? Will Burke want a bra when it’s time to get Maggie one?? LOL whoo boy.)

Lemons and Lemonade

Tanya, over at Mike and Tanya’s Corner of the World, sent this my way. Very much appreciated after yesterday’s lemons. Thank you Tanya! 🙂 Funny – her husband’s name is Mike and she has a son named Logan. All she needs now is twins 😉 (Okay Tanya – I know…Logan and the single 4-month-old is probably enough for now, huh? LOL)

lemonadeaward

Fist, give some blogger-love to the person who gave it to you. (check!)

Second, nominate 10 of your favorite blogger buddies.

I saw this award on someone else’s blog (Debi’s?) and she explained what it meant to her. I’m going to copy that…It takes a creative, hard-working kid to make a lemonade stand work. And if you keep at it, you’ll succeed. This is what I think of. So, I’m going to list 10 bloggers who represent these qualities. You may have gotten it before, but I’m too lazy to go look *grin*

  1. Cheryl over at Twinfatuation
  2. What a Card
  3. Heather at Want What You Have
  4. Heather at Thoughts, Ramblings, Dreams, and Ponderings
  5. Goddess in Progress
  6. Julie at The Other Boufs
  7. Bia at La Dolce Vita: the sweet life with three sons
  8. Laura at Catholic Teacher Musings
  9. Mommy, Esq.
  10. Giovanna Diaries

(If you happen across this post before I leave a comment that you have an award, sorry – it’s that whole lazy thing going on again.)

Oh, and an update about yesterday’s lemons…The lady’s insurance guy called this morning. He was quite nice and asked questions about the “accident” – I’m guessing to see if our stories matched..? But nothing about my insurance – so I’m sure there will be another call coming.

Accident Prone

Two things have happened over the past two days that make me want to just crawl right back into bed and pull the covers over my head for a few days.

Yesterday, I was sitting for 2 seconds (probably reading  a blog) waiting for Logan to fall to sleep before I went out to empty the car. I heard that horrible cat retching sound and bounded to my feet to make sure the mess didn’t end up on the rug.

The Sit ‘n Spin became a Step ‘n Slip. You know those old time slap-stick type movies where the guy steps on a banana peel or ice or something and both feet go flying up in the air? Ya. That was me. Re-wrenched my back (Hmm. I was going to link to a post I thought I wrote about that…in a nutshell, I slipped on something at my Dad’s house over Christmas – with Logan in my arms – and completely killed my back and hip and bruised up my knee quite nicely.) This time, bruises on my shin, knee, hip, leg, and shoulder…BUT something slipped my hip back into place and it feels better than it has since Christmas. Crazy.

Today, while pulling out of the pre-school parking lot – and trying to avoid the nice lady who was LETTING me out – I rubbed up against a parked car on my right. Seriously. Rubbed.

Like a good person, I stopped and talked with her – gave her my number and stuff.  And looked at her bumper. (Thanks to What a Card for sitting with my kiddos at the time!)  Looks like some dirt transferred from my car to hers. She is, of course, driving a new car…and has never heard of car polish. She’s already called me (twice) to get MORE information. Her husband will look at the “scratch” tonight and figure out what they’re going to do.

Wanna see the “damage” to my car?

I know that she has every right to file a claim, but I seriously hope the insurance people look at it, laugh, and tell them to use soap and water (or polish at the most). *sigh* Okay, maybe I don’t really hope they’ll laugh.

Actually, I seriously hope that the husband is level headed enough to realize that a good buff is really all it needs.
