Saturday Snapshot: Swimming!

Burke, Maggie, and Logan started swim lessons today πŸ™‚

Maggie and Burke

(Maggie’s on the left facing us; Burke’s at the bottom, floating on his back.)

Daddy and Logan

(Since Logan’s is a parent and me class, Daddy got in the pool with Logan…They’re right in the middle – Daddy’s showing Logan how to put his face in the water.)

They all had a blast!

Friday’s Fotos: The Perfect Gift and Updated Style

My sister gave me the perfect mug for my birthday. I hold it proudly! πŸ™‚

And Maggie changed the fabric above her head on her bunk bed, so we now have room for more “style” on the wall.

More Maggie Style

Kinda Looks Like a Duck

I mentioned that Burke collided with another kid in yesterday’s post. The poor kid has a fat lip today. And it’s *really* dark under the top lip. The gums as well. He complained that his teeth hurt while eating dinner last night (noodles!) and when brushing his teeth, he made us promise to be gentle.

Luckily, this morning – while it LOOKS worse – he’s not complaining about it hurting. I’d take a picture, but that seems cruel … Since he kind of looks like a duck πŸ™‚

Sleep All Day…

No WBW post today…I’ve pretty much been in bed all day. I got up to take Maggie to her dance class, and then again to let Nanny Jessica go home…but other than that, I’ve been trying to get rid of this nasty, nasty head cold. Sinus pressure galore. Lovely headache. Runny/stuffy nose (how is that even possible??). And raw throat.

All 3 kids have been hacking up a lung as well. If they’re feeling anything like I am, I’m surprised they’re not complaining more!

The nurse called from school today. I thought for sure she was sending Burke or Maggie home…but apparently Burke collided with another kid at recess (again). He’s fine, but the gums above his two front teeth look darker to me. Guess we’ll just have to keep an eye on it. The nurse also said that Maggie was sent to her that morning (for her lovely sounding cough), but that she’s fine and it’s just a cold. Good to know!

Decluttering

Our house is…cluttered. Toys. Books. Clothes. Paper. There’s just STUFF everywhere.

I know that this is all me. (Well, the kids have clutter too…but it all stems from me.) I see something and I think “I should keep that – I can use it to …<insert crafty/useful thing here>.” Which may or may not be true – I could use it for that – but more often than not, I’ll NOT end up doing that useful thing with it and it’ll still be sitting in the same spot months later. I know this. And yet…

We have school papers coming out of our ears. And the oldest kids are only in Kindergarten!! I was taking pictures of the “work” they brought home last year, but I’ve fallen behind. And this year they’re doing more work than the picture-type work last year…but I just can’t bring myself to throw it out – yet. (I WILL!!)

And clothes.*sigh* I hear all about the changing of closets when the seasons change…which sort of works…but we’re all big T-shirt wearers in this house. Year ’round. So there’s not a lot of change-over in those drawers.

BUT…I’ve started going through my clothes anyway. I’ve made a pile of the ones I haven’t had on in more than 3 years. Along with all of the ones below a certain size – ya…never gonna see THOSE numbers again…) And I pulled out all of my shorts and stored them under the bed. I can see my bedroom floor again! (Just don’t look at my bed right now…)

And it’s funny…I started the decluttering and then ran across this post written by a Fishful Thinking peer. I’m taking it as a sign that I’m headed in the right direction.

I’m a LONG way from done, but it’s a start. And I’m okay with baby steps.

Makes My Monday: Burke’s Perspective

Today was Burke’s second art class of the semester.

He was able to finish up a self portrait from the first class:

And then they worked on light boards today. Ms. Art had a horse figurine for the kids to draw using ordinary shapes. They first drew the shapes, and then using the light box, colored the shapes in on a different piece of paper.

She was tickled pink that Burke was the only one to turn the horse up-side-down and draw it that way.

Burke’s unique perspective totally Makes My Monday.

Cheryl over at Twinfatuation hosts this one. Head on over to see what else makes people’s Mondays (there are always some really good ones!)

Dancin’ Fool

Maggie had a Girl Scout function today where the first hour they went through 4 different stations and then the second hour they just danced, danced, danced. Since her friend A was there as well, she had a BLAST!

Saturday Snapshot: Circus!

Waiting for the Ringling/Barnum & Bailey Circus to start!

Hangin’ With Uncle Jim

Uncle Jim is here for the day πŸ™‚

Book Review: The Forgotten Garden

I read The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton for my book club and I have to say HANDS DOWN, one of the best mysteries I’ve read in a long time – if ever.

The first 3 chapter cover so many decades that it leaves your head spinning, but it sets it up for how the entire book reads. Each chapter is a different decade, told from a different character’s point of view. And it wasn’t always the same 3 characters, just one of the ones from that decade.

There are a few spots where I thought I had it all figured out, but then realized that there were other possible answers…answers that also made sense.

While reading, I found that I didn’t really relate to Nell (even though the whole story pretty much revolves around finding out who she is). I liked the story lines about Cassandra (two generations below Nell) and Eliza and Rose (a generation above Nell) – even though the story lines revolved around Nell anyway.

I loved that one of the characters is an author and you get to read a few of her stories. And it really does seem to change “authors” when you read them; they’re written totally different than the rest of the book.

I HIGHLY recommend reading this book!!

There’s a wonderful interview with Ms. Morton on Amazon that sheds some light on where she gets her ideas, as well as some insight to her as a person.
