Play Dates

When I first had the twins, I had grand thoughts of play dates and connecting with other moms and other kids. Mmm hmmm. The kids were born early – and in January – so we weren’t really allowed to take them out anywhere – for a while – for fear their preemie lungs would get sick. When I was finally able to take them out it was SO.NOT.FUN. And not because of the company we were in – seriously!! I didn’t get it. I really wanted the kids to PLAY. Ya right – too little. I really wanted to be able to talk with other moms. Ya right – too many little ones wanting too many things. What was the point of this play date thing again??

So then, the kids got a little older and I thought perhaps we might enjoy ourselves if we tried again. Mmm hmmm. Still to young to enjoy playing with other kids, and now they were hauling a$$ in different directions, so I still didn’t get to have any fun. I was so busy trying to keep them from wrecking the place or killing each other that I wasn’t able to chat with the other mom(s) at all.

Eventually, we got it. Play dates are FUN!! The kids play, the moms chat. All is right with the world. Except…now that I *want* to have play dates, I never have the TIME to have them. Is it wrong to ask everyone you know to come over on the ONE day you might have free?

Burke and Maggie - November, 2005

Still Backwards

Logan had his 14 month appointment today. He’s average height and average head circumference, but WAY below what his weight should be. He’s 19 pounds – which means he’s in the 3rd percentile.

This also means that he has to stay facing backwards in his car seat for a little while longer. It’s actually not such a big deal because that means he can still see Burke and Maggie – who sometimes entertain him while we’re all in the car. (Burke likes to make Logan giggle – it’s pretty cute.)

So…here’s the thing. Logan eats about what the twins eat – put together. So I really don’t get why he’s so little. The other thing is, he doesn’t really LOOK little. Sure – he’s no linebacker, but he’s not all skin and bones either. And he’s pretty solid. He’s not walking yet – but I’m fairly certain that’s due to lack of confidence rather than anything physical. He’s never crawled “right” (he lifts his right leg up to “stand” on it and then drags his left leg/knee along) – but he’s super fast with his own method, and the doctor isn’t worried about that at all. He cruises around furniture and climbs up the stairs…and has started to climb onto the kiddie chairs that Burke and Maggie have with their kiddie table. He’s babbling, but not really talking. (He does say “more” when he wants food though.)

The doctor isn’t worried about anything, so I’m just going to assume that he’s a little kid…just like his siblings 🙂

It’s Not Wednesday!

Oops…so I’ve apparently lost track of what day it is…that other post will be back tomorrow *blush*

“Borrowed”

While cleaning out Burke’s pockets today after school, Mike pulled out the following:

We don’t own any little blue teddy bears, so I can only assume that Burke was trying out his pockets while at school. With 16 little blue teddy bears. I didn’t even know his pockets were that big!

They will be returning with Burke on Wednesday…

It Figures

I finally sign up for NaBloPoMo, and my computer is crashing. It’s hard to get a post a day together when you don’t have a computer that’s working!! I’m actually using Mike’s computer to type this up.

What’s my computer doing, you ask? Freezing with a pretty patchwork of colors across my screen…and then sometimes rebooting, sometimes just staying frozen. Then when it reboots (or I reboot it), I see a double-screen, both half sized, one on top of the other…both in that pretty patchwork of colors. *sigh*

Hopefully my IT guy at work will know what’s going on and be able to do a simple, quick, magical fix. Keep your fingers crossed for me!

Stinky

One of the nylon kitchen serving spoons we have dropped to the bottom of the dishwasher during this morning’s cycle…and landed on the heating element. *sigh* My whole house smells of melted plastic. And it’s cold outside, so we have the heat turned on … with a window open now. Arg! Cha-ching, cha-ching…there goes a bunch o’ dough out the window….no way I’m sitting in that stank though 😛

…and it figures this happens on a day when we have company coming 😉

Baby Picture Sundays – Peepers!

Debi hosts the Baby Picture Sundays. Hop on over there to see who’s playing, and join in too!

This week’s theme is Hey Big Eyes. You may have seen one or two of these before, but I don’t think so. (I didn’t have the time to go back and look…sorry!)

WHO Did You Say Did It?

The other day I had both Logan and Maggie sitting on my lap. I wasn’t fully paying attention (probably reading blogs *blush*), but I knew in the back of my mind that Logan was bugging Maggie a bit – just climbing a little on her and such.

The next thing I know, Logan screams and starts crying. I looked at Maggie and asked what had happened. (Yes, they are on my lap and I didn’t see what happened…) Her eyes were really big and she had her hands covering her mouth…

“Maggie, did you hurt Logan?” Nothing. A quick inspection of Logan’s fingers that I knew were closest to Maggie’s mouth showed a tooth indentation. “Maggie, did you bite Logan?”

Big eye, all innocent…”No – Burke did it.” Ya. Burke is over on the other couch minding his own business, no where NEAR us.

A swift smack on the rear with the explanation of “We do not lie…and we don’t bite…but mostly we don’t lie.”

About a half hour later, I had gotten up to play on the floor with Logan, but had apparently left the TV remote over by the chair with Maggie. I hear Burke squawk because something happened to the TV. I looked up and Maggie came running over with the remote, “I did it!!”

Hmmm…lesson learned?
