Official Apology

To my little sister Sharon –

I want to apologize for (much of) my behavior while we were growing up. I know that I caused a lot of pain (both physical and emotional) that I won’t go into in detail about because a.) it’s too personal and b.) I’m hoping you’ve forgotten most of it.

Just know that I look back at some of the things I said or did and cringe. I’m sorry. And know that I’m so very thankful that I didn’t ruin things and that we are as close as we are.

With many sorries and much love,
Nancy

Recipe: Crock Pot Chicken

As another companion to my Ladies of Loserville post, I’m sharing my Crock Pot Chicken recipe.

This is another one that I make all the time. It calls for Italian dressing…which, if you use the tasty kind isn’t great for the diet. I made it with the lite Italian dressing last time, which was okay. But that also could have also been due to the fact that I made it with whatever I had laying around the kitchen, so it wasn’t the USUAL stuff. Too many variables to call that one. I think the next time I try, I’m going to eliminate *2* whole points a serving and try it with the fat-free chicken broth that I got from Progresso. (Go see my giveaway!)  Maybe add some Italian seasoning? We’ll see.

If I calculated correctly, one serving using the lite Italian dressing is 5 points. I’m sure depending on the type of veggies you use, this could go up or down in points.

**UPDATE** Do NOT use the broth or the lite dressing…both turn out terrible!

Ingredients:

  • 4 Chicken Breast halves. (We’ve been through this. . . I know that it’s 2 chicken breasts…)
  • I can sliced potatoes (you can use real ones diced up, but the canned ones mean that they’ll be super tender)
  • 1 bottle lite Italian dressing
  • 1 pkg. frozen veggies
  • 1/2 pkg. frozen pearl onions
  • 2 cans water chestnuts
  • Garlic powder
  • Seasoned salt (If you haven’t tried Penzey’s Spices yet…whoo boy. Yum-my)
  • Pepper to taste

Directions:

  1. Place chicken in the bottom of crock pot.
  2. Generously sprinkle chicken with garlic powder and seasoned salt. Use pepper to taste.
  3. Add remaining ingredients.
  4. Cook on Low for 8 hours or High for 4 hours.

When Do We Lose Our Posture?

I’ve been watching the kids and marveling at how ram-rod straight they sit. On the floor, in a chair, playing a game, eating…whatever. And I’m wondering when we “unlearn” this? I mean, we must have all started out like this, right? So – at what point is it that we start to slouch?

Is it when we figure out that we’re “supposed” to be self-conscious? Like…when your breasts come in before all of your friends…or if you think you’ve got a tummy?

Burke is a “leaner” – so I’m actually not sure if he’s a sloucher yet. Maggie is still pretty straight, unless she’s on the couch watching TV. Logan’s still little enough to not bend. 🙂

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

I’m thankful:

  • For all the typical “family, friends, etc.” (of course!!)
  • That we have 3 kids and not 4
  • That my family is healthy and happy
  • That my Dad lives close enough for visits
  • That even though Mike’s family isn’t close in distance, they’re still close
  • For my blog and the pure joy I get from it
  • For other blogs I read and enjoy
  • For books: grown-up and children’s
  • For vacations that are actually restful
  • That Mike is so patient with me
  • That Maggie enjoys singing and has started to talk in school
  • That Logan is so easy-going
  • That Burke really enjoys coloring

I’m Trying Not To Over Analyze

Right. As soon as you see that you know that this is exactly what I AM doing. Ah well…I figure if I write it out, I may figure it out 🙂

My conversation with Maggie this morning:

Logan and Maggie were both sitting on my lap.
Logan was putting his feet on Maggie’s legs.
Maggie: Stop TOUCHING me!
Me: He’s okay… he’s not hurting you.
Maggie: I don’t like him.
Me: What?
Maggie: I don’t like Logan.
Me: But…he’s your brother.
Maggie: No. Burke’s my brother.

Ya. We chatted a little bit about how both Logan and Burke are her brothers. I asked once or twice why she didn’t like Logan, but she pretty much ignored me and I didn’t want to push it.

So what’s going through my head?

  • Well, that explains her indifference to him.
  • But I’ve seen her share the much-coveted Gold Fish with him…
  • Maybe she’ll like him better when they can actually PLAY together.
  • Maybe she doesn’t like him because he takes up much of mommy’s time.
  • Maybe she isn’t feeling well (I did keep her home from school today), and she doesn’t like ANYONE right now.

I chatted (quietly) with Brenda about it when she got here, so Brenda asked Maggie, “Where’s your brother?” and Maggie immediately pointed to Logan…so who knows.

****EDIT**** Maggie hugged Logan while he was walking toward us this afternoon. Perhaps she was just feeling snarky this morning. 🙂

Way Back When-esday

Cheryl over at Twinfatuation hosts this one. Go on over to see who else is playing – and join in too!

Logan’s quest to walk reminded me of when Maggie was first learning.

Behold the Magic of Duckie

Behold the Magic of Duckie

She’d only let go if she had her Duckie. It had magnets in the feet so we could wrap it around her arm. Not sure why this was the magic feather, but it worked!

Is It Just Me?

When making a drink from a mix (as opposed to a mixed drink…), I have to put the powder in the cup before the liquid. So, the iced tea mix goes in before the ice or the water. And the Coffee Mate and sugar go in before the coffee. In my head, this makes sense because then things start getting mixed while you’re pouring in the liquid. It also means that you (usually) don’t get globs of the mix (or whatever) on your spoon handle while mixing.

There’s more. If I go back for a refill, I have to use a fresh spoon each time. I know. I can’t STAND having the mix stick to the “old” water (or coffee or whatever) on the spoon. And the little drops/globs left in the mix from that wet spoon creep me out. I know.

I used to have to use a fresh cup each time…but I’ve forced myself to stop that. Baby steps…

My First Giveaway!

I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I am. Not only because I have a giveaway to send out to a few lucky readers, but because it’s like these people read my blog and know exactly what I need!! Yep – I get to keep one too 🙂

MyBlogSpark and Progresso sent me a gift basket that’s full of goodies. And they are even goodies I can use on my diet! Check it out:

progresso-small

It’s the Progresso “Perfect Recipe” gift basket – and I get to give three away!!! The gift baskets include a free coupon for Progresso Broth, a recipe card holder, recipe box and wicker basket, as well as a set of serving spoons and a spoon rest.

I don’t know about you, but I use broth in a LOT of recipes. Well…actually I only use it in a few recipes – that I make all the time *sheepish grin* (like the Burger Soup!)

And if you read my blog with any regularity, you know that I could use another utensil to replace my melted one!

So…what do you have to do to win one of these lovely baskets? You’ll get entered once if you leave me a comment for THIS post (you can leave as many comments as you want here, but I’ll enter you once only – sorry!). And you’ll get entered a second time if you email me your favorite holiday recipe (or email me the link to it if you’ve posted it on your blog). I’ll post the recipes with the winners!

I’m closing the doors on Monday December 1, 2008 – Midnight Eastern time – so coment and email before then. Random.org will pick the winners on Tuesday morning and I’ll have them (and the recipes) posted at some point that Tuesday.
