Proud

You’d think as a parent, I’d be writing about my kids with that title, but nope. I’m writing about my big brother 🙂

Jim participated in his first triathlon over the weekend. The Heart Of Dixie Triathlon to be exact. He had to do a 0.5 mile swim, a 27 mile bike ride, and a 7 mile run. (All I’m thinkin’ here is OMG, OWW!)

This first-timer placed 28th overall (out of what looks to be about 235 people). And came in 4th in his age group. DA-AMN.

A quote from him:

All about what your friends can talk you into.

Uh. ya. *MY* friends couldn’t talk me into that LOL (and luckily for me, I’m fairly certain they wouldn’t try to either…)

GO JIM!! 🙂

Staycation – Day 7

Another pretty cool day with a lot of nothing. 🙂

We got up and skipped church (I know….BAAAAAAD!! But the rationale was that we wouldn’t have gone if we’d been out of town, so…) and made breakfast: pancakes and bacon. My first time making pancakes (yep. for real) so they weren’t exactly my Dad’s … but the first batch wasn’t bad. I had the pan too hot for the rest of the batches though…live and learn.

Then Mike took care of the twins so that I could go take a nap when Logan went down for one. (Have I mentioned that Mike is awesome??)

Then the power went out…which means the A/C and the noisemaker in Logan’s room turned off…so he could hear Burke saying “Lights broken!” at the top of his lungs…short naps this morning 😉

We headed out to meet Aunt Cathy for a late lunch/early dinner at Fridays. One word for you: MUDSLIDES. YUM! And Logan ate about 1/2 a plate of mac & cheese. heh Maggie got her groove thing on and was dancing by her chair (much to the delight of the wannabe Goth chick at the next table).

Apparently, even though Mike and I were not in the least bit hungry … by the time bed time for the twins rolled around they were *starving* and ate about 10 “dinonuggets” each. YIKES! (yes. at bed time. oops…perhaps we should remember to actually feed them more often *blush* )

I have to say that the entire Staycation was *really* nice. I don’t even feel like I need a vacation from my vacation – which is what normally happens. I will say this though:

I don’t want to go back to work tomorrow!

Staycation – Day 6

Another great day! We did *nothing* and it was awesome.

Logan was up from 1:45am to about 3:30am (still not sure why – but he was *not* happy)…so Mike, the wonderful man that he is (again), let me sleep in again. (Thanks honey!!) I woke up to Logan crying around 10:15. YES!! 10:15!

We spent almost all day in the back yard and in the kiddie pool. Aunt Cathy came to visit and hunted dinosaurs with the twins. (They showed her how to do it just right…) And they had bouncy ball races, chasing after Cathy. Pretty cute.

Mike grilled up some grub: Bacon wrapped pork chops, kielbasa, green beans, asparagus, and potatoes. MAN than man can grill! TA-STY. Can’t wait for the pan fried left overs again 🙂

I think we may do the same thing all over again tomorrow.

Zoo – the Musical

While in Vermont for Easter, the kids had fun playing the piano with cousin Grey.

Sharon and Jason (Grey’s parents) got the kids a bunch of musical instruments for their 3rd birthday. The accordion is one that is used a *lot* (thanks Sharon 😛 )

Logan wants to get in on the fun. Luckily, Aunt Kahki sent this piano for Christmas. (He’s actually pretty good at pounding tunes out…)

And my sister Meghan’s band, Busted Brix, just hit YouTube!!

One on One Time??

One of the moms in my twin group just posted asking if she should try to schedule her twins into preschool such that they’re both there together 2 of the 3 days they go, and then on the 3rd day they go in on different days – so she can have one-on-one time with them. I’m embarrassed to say that I’ve only thought about “alone” time with the kids in passing. . . Sure, Burke has his speech class that I take him to, and Maggie has had dentist appointments and a haircut and other appointments without Burke – but for the most part, they’re always WANTING to go places together, so I guess it never occurred to me that they’d want time with a parent alone. Perhaps we should start trying to do this?? Maybe it’s something we should wait a few years on so they’ll actually remember it? (seriously, what’s your earliest memory – do you remember things from 3.5 years old? I have a snapshot in my head from when Sharon came home from the hospital, but that very well could BE from a snapshot I’ve actually seen…)

Mike asked me tonight if I’d take Logan with me to the grocery store while he played with the twins in the yard. I guess I should have! At the time though, I was thinking “geez. that’s in the car seat (that the poor guy had just come out of – weekly Costco/Burger King run – with a Home Depot run thrown in), out of the car seat and into (another) shopping cart, run around the store to pick up the 3 things on my list (does it ever actually stay just 3??), back to the car seat.” man. just thinking that makes me tired. So…I told him it would take me a lot less time without him and I could come back and play too.

One of my fondest memories with my dad growing up was my “tool time” with him in the barn. Every so often (once a week??) he’d bring me to the barn and teach me how to use a tool. Just me. And he had *4* kids at that point (Sorry Meg – you weren’t born yet), and was pretty much a single dad…WITH *4* KIDS. How the hell did he do that? Did it really happen?? Am I remembering wrong and Sharon was there too? heheh am I scarred for life because I never really had any alone time? LOL

Ask anyone why I take long showers – I always tell them because it’s the only place anyone ever left me alone growing up. heh

One on One time. something to think about.

She Did it Again.

Cathy, Cathy, Cathy. These Jib Jab sessions are going to be the death of me 🙂

Here’s the first one sent today:

Yup. those are MY kids breakdancing. LOL!! I made the mistake of opening it in front of Burke. . . so he was sitting here watching it with me. “Burke dancing!” pause. “Maggie dancing!” pause. “Logan dancing!!” He loved it. I think I had to replay it about 14 times before the only thing that would tear him away was some pizza. AND after the pizza, he came back over to me and said “I need more Burke.” It took me a second to realize that he meant he wanted to see “himself” dancing some more. I finally gave up and showed him how to push the mouse button to replay it himself. I have no idea how many times…

THEN comes THIS one:

Sharon and Jason. Totally fits – in fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if they were the ones to dance for the original video *grin* (although, the models are kinda pasty white…)

Burke liked that one too, but not as much as watching himself. He did request one of Grandpa though…Cathy? 😉

Dancing?

So, my older sister found/created this:

I nearly peed my pants I was laughing so hard.

Yep. That’s me, my sisters and my brother. Cathy has way too much time on her hands! LOL
