What’s the Opposite of Intuition?

I got a new razor over the weekend…the Intuition. My 17 year old sister uses one, so I figured I’d try it out. Why not? She’s in the “in the know” age group …she swims year ’round …so you’d think she’d know about such things. right?

I used it for the first time this morning and I’m feeling all sorts of prickly right now.ย  Maybe it was just that I was trying to shave my legs while I had goosebumps – I hate that! (I got up a little bit early and the heat hadn’t kicked on yet…anywhere the shower wasn’t directly spraying was a wee bit chilly). But I think it might actually have something to do with the “Skin Conditioning Solid” that surrounds the blade. Cool concept – especially since I don’t use shaving cream or soap while shaving (just water, thanks) – but this possibly means that I’m not getting that nice clean, close shave I’ve gotten used to. I’ll obviously keep trying this “new” invention out (how long has it been around now?), but I suspect that once I get the Solid to where it works right, the blade will be dull.

Anyone else use this? Is it just me?

P.S. Just looked up Intuition … the antonym? Knowledge or reason. Hm.

This week’s theme is Buddha Bellies. Since my babies are little peanuts, I thought I’d post *my* Buddha belly.

Musicals to My Eyes

The Music to My Ears post made me want to document my musical-like ventures as well…so here we go!

My musical experience started when I was pretty young. My mom used to do shows at the local Lyric Theater, so we’d get to go see her. Then, when I reached junior high/high school, the band (lead by my step-mother) used to take field trips into NYC to see musicals and museums. In college, Clarkson was so close to the Canadian boarder, we’d have field trips to Montreal to see theater productions there. When I lived in New Jersey, I had lots of opportunities to skip on over to Broadway. When I moved to the Boston area, I was able to attend shows here. Not as many as I’d like, but I’ve definitely hit a few.

Broadway/Boston/Montreal/etc

  1. Cats. 3 times I think. I saw this on Broadway and in Boston.
  2. Phantom of the Opera. Also 3 times, I think. Broadway (more than once) and in Montreal.
  3. Miss Saigon. Just once. In Montreal.
  4. The Scarlet Pimpernel. On Broadway MANY times, in Boston twice.
  5. Starlight Express. In Germany at the theater made especially for it (SO COOL!) and in Boston. It was better in German when I couldn’t completely understand it.
  6. Blast. In Boston. It was kind of like Stomp, but with brass. WAY cool.
  7. Rent. In Boston. Holy cow, awesome!
  8. Mama Mia. In Boston – with my sisters…one of which is a HUGE ABBA fan.
  9. Beauty and the Beast. On Broadway. Debra (formerly known as Debbie) Gibson was Belle.
  10. Chicago. In Boston. Didn’t love it.
  11. Cirque du Soleil. In Boston. WOW.
  12. Nabucco. (an opera) At the Met. Glad I can say that I went to the Met and saw an opera – but it’s definitely not my type of entertainment.

Community Theater

Shows that seemed huge at the time because I was much younger…
(not quite Broadway, but close enough when you’re in Vermont and there IS no Broadway.)

  • Jesus Christ, Superstar
  • Brigadoon
  • Camelot
  • South Pacific
  • A Little Night Music
  • Cabaret
  • A Chorus Line

I Must Be Crazy

An in-real-life friend and blogger buddie, Goddess, has thrown down the gauntlet. She’s challenged fellow bloggers to join her in “searching for the wagon” – losing some weight.ย  I’ve decided that I need to do just that and will be joining her. Goddess even set up a new blog for us to complain about track things. I’ll also try to be brave and keep updates going here – but I’ll mostly be tracking over there. Let’s just suffice it to say that I’m starting out at large.

Why crazy, you ask? Because I’ve joined the online version of Weight Watchers at prime foodie time. Thanksgiving and Christmas are right around the corner. Not to mention all that Halloween candy that we can’t let the KIDS eat… *sigh* This is going to take a *lot* of will power…I’m totally a meat and potatoes kinda gal. Although, I do really like WW’s zero point soup…

Poor Mike. I hope I don’t get too grumpyย  ๐Ÿ™‚ And I hope he doesn’t mind some of my WW recipes…

Keep your fingers crossed for me! And here’s to hoping that I don’t chew through my desk.

Man…

I knew I’d forget one! I totally forgot that I saw Damn Yankees/Bad Company in concert! I’ve updated that post

———-

Heard through the monitor at 6:45 this morning

Burke: It’s morning time!

Maggie: No! It’s night time!

(Burke won…they woke up and played with their Cars cars for a while.)

Music To My Ears

I thought it would be fun to write down the concerts I’ve been to. You can gasp in awe, laugh your butt off, or nod in a “oh ya, I did that” kind of way … but just know that I really enjoyed each one – at least at the time I went. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  1. Joan Baez. This is totally because of my Mom. She brought us to some big fair grounds in Vermont when I was pretty little…I remember hearing some songs I knew. And that I got a free Seagram’s 7 t-shirt before I even know what it was. (I believe I was in grade school).
  2. New Kids on the Block. Yep… I was in Junior High and loved, loved, loved them. Not sure I’d attend one now – but man, what memories ๐Ÿ™‚ Went with my teeny bopper friends and we even spent the night in a hotel room.
  3. Damn Yankees/Bad Company. These two bands toured together when I was in high school. I fell in love with Bad Company that night. Damn Yankees was just too loud…like, loud enough that it was hard to hear them at all. Went with a bunch of high school friends; we were in a tiny auditorium in Vermont.
  4. Billy Joel. I was in college and took a road trip with my roommate. He’s such a great pianist!!
  5. Elton John. Same thing as Billy Joel. It wasn’t the tour that they did together though. Another great pianist!
  6. The Connels. Tiny little bar in Vermont. GREAT show!! I went with my best friend Karen.
  7. 2003 WBOS Earthfest – pouring down rain. We got *drenched*
    • Sheryl Crow. She was the headliner and she absolutely rocked!
    • Alice Peacock. I had no idea who she was at the time.
    • Big Head Todd and The Monsters. Mike used to see these guys in college bars. I’d never heard of them.
    • Peter Wolf. One word: OLD.
    • Nickel Creek. We had no idea who they were, but walked away with their Smoothie song stuck in our heads.
    • Sister Hazel. I enjoyed them more than I liked Sheryl Crow! We got into line to have a CD autographed after the show. I even got to talk with them!!
  8. 2004 WBOS Earthfest- beautiful day, we got pretty good seats. But thank goodness not THAT good because one of the many-foot high speakers fell into the audience right before Third Eye Blind played. Talk about scary. My sister Cathy and her boyfriend at the time (Jon) went with us.
    • Peter Wolf. See 2003.
    • Los Lonely Boys. OMG – these guys put on a MAJOR show. We couldn’t stop talking about them for weeks. If you ever get the chance to see them – they do amazing things with the guitar.
    • Third Eye Blind. Do I really need to say anything here? These guys are great.
    • Edie Brickell. Holy shy…but I love her voice.
  9. Neil Diamond. Another guy who really knows how to move. He’s still got it ๐Ÿ™‚ I went with my sister Sharon (we grew up on Neil – thanks Mom!), and we were dancing in our seats.
  10. 2007 WBOS Earthfest- I have to admit, I don’t remember a lot of this…or even who we actually saw. We had the kids with us and they just wanted to run around and around. My sister Sharon, her husband, and their son went with us.
    • Guster. All I remember is that my little sister Meghan was incredibly jealous that we were going to see these guys…and we may have actually left before they started.
    • KT Tunstall. I do remember hearing her two songs that were popular at the time…
    • Mat Kearney. Still not sure I know who this guy is.
    • the John Butler Trio. Or these guys.
    • Vega4. Ditto
    • Grace Potter and the Nocturnals. And again. (told you I wasn’t paying a lot of attention.)
  11. Great Big Sea.ย  I was pregnant with Logan and got VERY tired. But I enjoyed every minute. ๐Ÿ™‚
  12. Great Big Sea (again). You saw my post about this one. We went with our friends Callum and Sharon.

Unfortunately, WBOS changed their format. They still have the free Earthfest concerts, but they just aren’t they same.

Dang. I’ve seen more than I thought! Not a huge number by any means, but go me ๐Ÿ™‚ I wonder if I’ve forgotten anyone.

What’s your list? If you put one up on your blog – let me know! (Pssst…easy/fun NaBlo post…)

Mommy “Dating”

The Boston Globe just put an article out about the Perils of Mommy Dating. Go ahead and read it…I’ll wait until you get back. ๐Ÿ™‚

.

.

.

So, what’d you think?

It basically states that being a mom trying to meet other moms is as nerve wracking as when you were single trying to meet a guy. I couldn’t agree more!! Of course, with my twins club, we have a similar “online dating” club as the one mentioned in the article. And with my blog, I’ve found more “like minds” – so that’s cool.

But … I totally get the being nervous at the school drop-off and pick-up. I’m always looking around and thinking “Man. They’ve got it so together…here I am in my baseball cap again because I just couldn’t fit the shower in BEFORE I dropped these guys off. *sigh* ”

And THEN I remember the few times I was sitting at Burke’s Speech class and the mommies with baseball caps came in to pick their kids up. At that time I thought “Man. She probably just came from the gym…she’s got it so together.” But…what if she was just like me and didn’t get her shower in before picking up her kids? Blows the mind ๐Ÿ™‚
