25 Random Things About Me

In an effort to catch up on the blogs I haven’t been reading due to a busy work schedule mixed with a busy sick kid schedule…I’m going to post the 25 random things about me that I put up on Facebook. (Sorry to all my facebook buddies who already read it!)

Feel free to do one yourself 🙂 Just let me know so I can go check yours out!

25 Random Things About Me
  1. Too many people have tagged me to do this to get out of it.
  2. I have lost about 13 pounds over the past 3 months.
  3. I still wake up and am amazed that I am married and have 3 kids…two of which are twins.
  4. I really, really enjoy blogging and tend to post daily.
  5. I really, really enjoy comments on my blog posts (hint, hint 😉 )
  6. I’m always worried someone from one of my colleges will call and say “We found you out. You didn’t *really* earn that.” And take a degree away.
  7. I wish I kept in touch with my friends more than I do. (Facebook is helping…but it’s not the same as face-to-face)
  8. I miss girl’s night – board games with friends.
  9. I’m a home body.
  10. I do *NOT* like exercising, but I’m hoping the new Wii Fit will get me up off my butt.
  11. I work from home two days a week.
  12. I’m very good at my job – even though the software I have to document is sometimes WAY over my head.
  13. I’ve been asked to come back to every single (“real”) job I’ve left.
  14. I do a lot of side jobs: editing books, administrative assistant work, formatting proposals/applications, contract tech writing, etc.
  15. I might get addicted to Wii bowling.
  16. I used to be able to make friends VERY easily. It’s hard to fit into an ‘old’ neighborhood.
  17. I love spending time with my family and often experience FOMS (Fear of Missing Something) if they all get together without me.
  18. I miss my grandmother daily.
  19. I wish I could have met Mike’s mom.
  20. I love my kids dearly, but there’s no way in hell I’d be a good stay-at-home-mom.
  21. I love to read and I love to take baths, and I used to do both together – a lot – but rarely have the time for either any more.
  22. I truly enjoy helping others…to the point where I’m sure I come off as a know-it-all, but that isn’t my intent.
  23. TMI: my friggin’ period has been lasting for over 10 days for months now and I really wish it would just cut it out.
  24. I sometimes give out way too much information (see above).
  25. I have the BEST marriage ever. 🙂

New New New!!

Two new things today!

First – The new nanny is here!!!

You have NO idea how incredibly psyched I am right now.

She showed up early! All three kids seem to be taken with her already. (MAN, that was quick.) Her first language is Portuguise (and some Spanish) but her English seems to be okay…meaning I think she’s understanding what I’m saying. (She’s pretty quiet, so I’m guessing that she’s not very confident in her own English, but her comprehension seems to be just fine.) Time will tell about that one.

I know that she’s also tickled that if she speaks to the kids in Spanish, they’ll understand everything she says. I know that makes her feel better about things. It’s funny though, she’ll speak to them in Spanish, but they’ll answer her in English. LOL

Second – I have a new “home office” !!!

We hit Ikea over the weekend and picked up a desk and chair for me that fits as a bed-side table as well. (not a *lot* of room there, but I’m loving this already.)

desk

And holy cow – Ikea?? crazy, crazy place. There are security people on site to help you park. And then, the building is as large as a mall (at least, the ones in Vermont 😉 ) – 3 stories! I’m still not sure what was on that first floor. You go up to the 3rd floor to shop around. You can pick up the small things there (we got a shoe rack, and kid plates and utensils), and then look around at the larger stuff put together. You take down the aisle and bin number and then head to the second floor to grab the boxes (we got the desk, a chair, and a kid table with 2 chairs).  All this for CHEAP (under $160). And they have a cafeteria as well. All 5 of us ate for under $20 – and the food was good.

I’m fairly certain that we’ll be heading back at some point for a dining set.

Lip Balm – Curse or Cure?

On any given day, you’ll probably find 3 or 4 sticks of lip balm on my person.

In my pocket right now is a fantastic one that I received in my stocking: Time & Again Sparkling Fruit. In the front pocket of my purse is the Blistex Melon Medley. Inside my purse is the Blistex Complete Moisture. I have Blistex Moisture Splash in my cosmetics bag. (Along with a Burt’s Bees Shimmer, a Softlips, and Mary Kay’s Satin Lips.) As you can see – I’m obsessed.

But…I have to wonder if it’s a case of “the more you put on, the more you’ll need” – something like, your lips stop “making” their own protection because they’re so used to it being right there for them all the time. Something to ponder.

Lemons and Lemonade

Tanya, over at Mike and Tanya’s Corner of the World, sent this my way. Very much appreciated after yesterday’s lemons. Thank you Tanya! 🙂 Funny – her husband’s name is Mike and she has a son named Logan. All she needs now is twins 😉 (Okay Tanya – I know…Logan and the single 4-month-old is probably enough for now, huh? LOL)

lemonadeaward

Fist, give some blogger-love to the person who gave it to you. (check!)

Second, nominate 10 of your favorite blogger buddies.

I saw this award on someone else’s blog (Debi’s?) and she explained what it meant to her. I’m going to copy that…It takes a creative, hard-working kid to make a lemonade stand work. And if you keep at it, you’ll succeed. This is what I think of. So, I’m going to list 10 bloggers who represent these qualities. You may have gotten it before, but I’m too lazy to go look *grin*

  1. Cheryl over at Twinfatuation
  2. What a Card
  3. Heather at Want What You Have
  4. Heather at Thoughts, Ramblings, Dreams, and Ponderings
  5. Goddess in Progress
  6. Julie at The Other Boufs
  7. Bia at La Dolce Vita: the sweet life with three sons
  8. Laura at Catholic Teacher Musings
  9. Mommy, Esq.
  10. Giovanna Diaries

(If you happen across this post before I leave a comment that you have an award, sorry – it’s that whole lazy thing going on again.)

Oh, and an update about yesterday’s lemons…The lady’s insurance guy called this morning. He was quite nice and asked questions about the “accident” – I’m guessing to see if our stories matched..? But nothing about my insurance – so I’m sure there will be another call coming.

Accident Prone

Two things have happened over the past two days that make me want to just crawl right back into bed and pull the covers over my head for a few days.

Yesterday, I was sitting for 2 seconds (probably reading  a blog) waiting for Logan to fall to sleep before I went out to empty the car. I heard that horrible cat retching sound and bounded to my feet to make sure the mess didn’t end up on the rug.

The Sit ‘n Spin became a Step ‘n Slip. You know those old time slap-stick type movies where the guy steps on a banana peel or ice or something and both feet go flying up in the air? Ya. That was me. Re-wrenched my back (Hmm. I was going to link to a post I thought I wrote about that…in a nutshell, I slipped on something at my Dad’s house over Christmas – with Logan in my arms – and completely killed my back and hip and bruised up my knee quite nicely.) This time, bruises on my shin, knee, hip, leg, and shoulder…BUT something slipped my hip back into place and it feels better than it has since Christmas. Crazy.

Today, while pulling out of the pre-school parking lot – and trying to avoid the nice lady who was LETTING me out – I rubbed up against a parked car on my right. Seriously. Rubbed.

Like a good person, I stopped and talked with her – gave her my number and stuff.  And looked at her bumper. (Thanks to What a Card for sitting with my kiddos at the time!)  Looks like some dirt transferred from my car to hers. She is, of course, driving a new car…and has never heard of car polish. She’s already called me (twice) to get MORE information. Her husband will look at the “scratch” tonight and figure out what they’re going to do.

Wanna see the “damage” to my car?

I know that she has every right to file a claim, but I seriously hope the insurance people look at it, laugh, and tell them to use soap and water (or polish at the most). *sigh* Okay, maybe I don’t really hope they’ll laugh.

Actually, I seriously hope that the husband is level headed enough to realize that a good buff is really all it needs.

A Few of My Favorite Things

Cheryl at Twinfatuation graciously allowed me to play along with an alphabet meme. What is it that I have to do? List 10 of my favorite things that start with the letter N. (Thanks for going easy on me Cheryl!)

Nephews and Niece

(2 Nephews and 1 Niece – so far!) My sister’s son Grey cracks me up every time we see him. And his infatuation with Maggie is super cute. I’d love to see Mike’s sister’s kids more than we do…but I’m still glad that they’re out there 🙂
(If I get desperate, I’m splitting this entry into two! LOL)

Noodles

These are a staple for one of the crock pot recipes I make weekly. (Crock Pot Burger Soup.)

Nice People

On my laptop’s desktop are the words: There are nice people everywhere, be one of them. I love people who live by that.

The 99 (Ninety-Nine … does that count??)

They have the BEST Mudslides.

Nightlights

Without these, I would be constantly tripping over things in each and every bedroom in our house.

Neighbors

I wish we knew ours a little better, but we definitely have some sweet ones. The ones across the street and two houses down dropped off a very nice set of blocks he had made for his kids about 30 or 40 years ago. The ones next door saw how pregnant I was when we moved in (7 months along) and immediately came over with an offer to babysit if I went into labor late at night.

Nursery School

Not only do I love Nursery School right now for my kids (they have grown *so* much this past year!), but I have fond, fond memories of my own Nursery School. The Otter Creek school just had its 30 year reunion…which I couldn’t attend because it was a few weeks before Logan was born and I was on strict “Do Not Travel” orders.

Name that Tune

I can name that tune in one note. Seriously. Especially 80’s songs. I can name the artist as well. I wouldn’t have done well on the TV show though … because I can name the tune in one note when I hear the ACTUAL note. The TV show had some dude playing the song on the piano…which sounds totally different. I probably still would have done okay – but not nearly as well as if they used the actual recording.

News

For the longest time, I could never understand why my parents and grandparents were so obsessed with the News. If they read the News for the same reason I do now, I totally understand. I crave things to read, but rarely have the time to read a complete “thing” – unless it’s a news article. I suppose that whole “staying up-to-date with stuff that’s going on in the world” thing is a bonus as well…

Nora Roberts

I’m pretty much always reading something by Nora Roberts. I *LOVE* her books!! A little romance, a little mystery, a little magic…what more could you need? 🙂

.

What’s your favorite N? (BIG brownie points for “Nancy” 😉 )

So, now is when it gets a little fuzzy…I’m guessing if you want to play along, you can leave me a comment and I’ll figure some way to randomly assign a letter to you. Cheryl, is there some rhyme or reason to the whole meme madness? 🙂

You Know What Else Everybody Likes? Parfaits.

Because I don’t want to be “Onion Boy” – I’m going to layer myself like a nice parfait.
(Yep – we watch a lot of Shrek in this house 😉 )

I saw this over on Heather’s blog, Wanting What You Have, and I really liked her answers, so I thought I’d try it out myself.

Way Back When-esday

Cheryl over at Twinfatuation hosts this one. Go on over to see who else is playing – and join in too!

I’m not 100% sure when this was taken. I’m guessing 1976 or 1977 maybe 1978. (Mom, do you know?)

Nancy

Nancy

I do know who took it though… Mrs. Woods – who ended up being my 4th grade teacher – was friends with my preschool/kindergarten teachers and would come to our school and take these awesome photos. There are ones like this of my brother and sisters too.
