It Was Bound To Happen

Just under two weeks ago, I posted about Logan being dry his first overnight in undies.

He made it almost 2 weeks without a single accident!! This morning was the first time he woke up wet…and wonderful Mom that I am, I didn’t even notice at first.

With Burke, I made a habit of “checking” each morning to see if I needed to change the bed. Since Logan’s been so dry, I haven’t been checking. So when he wandered downstairs, I said “Good morning!” to him and continued to help Maggie get dressed while he played for a little bit.

He comes over for a big hug and I notice that his jammies are wet…
Me: “Logan, are your jammies wet?”
Logan: “It’s just from my bed.”

Uhm…okay. Pretty sure he didn’t even realize that he peed! LOL

It’s just from my bed

This photo comes alllllll the way back from October 14th…the day the Mickey Mouse costume came in. You won’t see the (HUGE!!) hands in any other Halloween pictures though…Logan hated them. Ah well. You can’t win them all. πŸ˜‰

(I know, it’s a little fuzzy. Cell phone picture!)

Makes My Monday: DRY!

Our town had its annual Halloween parade yesterday. Since it was a little rainy and chilly, I decided to put the kids’ PJs on under their costumes. (Plus, these PJs are the skin-tight kind, so they fit under their costumes quite nicely.)

When we got home, all we had to do was take off the costumes and viola! Ready for bed. Except…then I remembered that Logan usually wears a Pull-up to bed still. So, while we were getting teeth brushed and pottying for the last time of the night, I asked Logan if we should switch to the Pull-up.

He said, “Nope. Undies.”

I kind of looked at him and said, “So…you’ll stay dry all night? You’ll use the potty if you have to pee in the middle of the night and have a dry bed in the morning?”

He nodded.

Okay then….

Fast forward to 4AM. I hear “Mommy!” and think, “doh…” But all he wanted was a re-spray of Monster Spray (thank you, Halloween, for scaring my kid). Since he was up, I insisted that he empty his bladder (which really wasn’t all that full).

Fast forward to 7AM. While trying to figure out if I should wake him up at the same time I’m waking Burke and Maggie for school, Logan wakes up on his own and comes out to say Good Morning….completely DRY!! And he didn’t have to run to the potty either (so I didn’t push it), he went when he was good and ready.

I know he’ll have the occasional accident – it’s bound to happen – but…do I dare say “Buh Bye Pull-ups” ???

There Were Tears

Today started out like any other day…got the kids up and ready for school – just like any other Tuesday for the past few weeks.

The first difference was when Burke asked to be a “Bring lunch in” kid. Apparently the Bagel and Cream Cheese slated for “hot” lunch at school wasn’t going to cut it for him today (And I can’t say that I blame him…WTF?! THAT is not lunch. And the alternate “hot” lunch today? A pretzel with cheese sticks. Seriously?? Oh don’t get me started.) Anyway…no big deal – we reverted to his typical preschool lunch: pepperonis, baby carrots, and ketchup. (Hey – at least there’s some meat there…) Maggie decided that she wanted the same thing, so I put together her lunch as well. No biggie.

When it was time to bring Logan to school, he eagerly got into the car and we were off. We parked and got out…he held my hand while walking in…and then just froze as soon as we got into his classroom.

Okay, no big deal…he’s feeling a little shy today, so I’ll help him get his coat, backpack, and snack into his cubby and walk him to the drawing table where he’ll sit and color as I leave. Ya. No dice. He wouldn’t let go of my hand. He didn’t want to sit. He didn’t want to color. At one point, he got so clingy I had to pick him up! THIS is not the Logan of Preschool past. The Logan who barely acknowledged me as he ran off to play.

I stayed for as long as I could and then just had to hand him off to Mrs. Teacher. Logan wouldn’t let go of my shirt and gave me that panicked look of “I can’t believe you’re just going to LEAVE me here!!” and started crying.

OMG!! I couldn’t keep myself from tearing up as well! And THAT’S not me!! I’ve never cried while leaving a kid somewhere. Oh the desperation in his face! 😦

I practically ran out of the building to break down in the comfort of my van. But not before promising to pick him up after school (Nanny Jessica has been picking him up). Poor kid!

The whole time he was in school I kept telling myself that he got over it as soon as I walked out the door, but I was still weepy for most of the morning.

Fast forward to pickup time. I go to get him – just like I promised – and he RUNS to give me a hug. All smiles. And Mrs. Teacher said he was just fine all day…he snapped out of it almost immediately.

OY! Kids. I tell ya.

First Day of Preschool

Logan had his very first day of Preschool today! He has the same teachers as Burke and Maggie had their first year, so I’m very comfortable with his situation.

I do have to say that because of his age, the owner of the school wanted to put him in the ‘nursery’ room rather than the preschool room…I didn’t want to insult him like that, so I suggested the room he’s in now.

When I dropped him off, he was a little shy…but I told him it was just like speech class: we drop him off, he plays for a bit, and then we always come pick him up.

I picked him up today (Nanny Jessica will probably be doing that in the future though), and asked how he did. The teachers “just want to eat him up!” LOL! I asked if I made the right decision – if he belonged in this class and they said that based on today, he absolutely does (he even used the teeny tiny little potty they have in the bathroom – twice!), but that they’d let me know based on the following few weeks. Good enough. πŸ™‚

Makes My Monday: Preschool Orientation

Logan had his preschool orientation today! I’m going to take it as a good sign that he didn’t want to leave…School starts tomorrow!!

This one is not too far back – March of this year. I was (finally) emptying out the camera and happily discovered some pictures that Nanny Jessica took.

More Logan Updates

(I was going to write “More on Logan” … but say that fast and that’s SO wrong! LOL!)

Anyway…Today was Logan’s follow-up appointment with the Endocrinologist. (His first one was in March, followed by a phone call a few weeks later.) Unfortunately, we couldn’t get an appointment with the original doctor, so this is Dr. EndoTwo. Which may be why (drum roll, please) she wants to see him again in 4 or 5 months.

Here’s what today’s appointment looked like: We drive all the way to Children’s Hospital (at least it’s not the one in downtown Boston!); we wait in the waiting room for a few minutes; we go with the nurse so Logan can get weighed (just over 28 pounds!), measured (I forget!), and his blood pressure taken; we go back to the waiting room for a few minutes (where I shamelessly twin-stalk the double strollers); we get called back into the office; Logan gets his “wing-span” measured, his legs measures, and she checks out various areas (I’m assuming having to do with his thyroid, but I have no idea); and Dr. EndoTwo says, “Well. He’s doing okay. And he looks fine. But he’s just not gaining like he’s supposed to.” Apparently, he’s supposed to be gaining 8 oz (I really don’t remember the units), and is only gaining 5.5. Oh wait – perhaps that was height. I’m so bad…as soon as she says “He’s okay.” I tune things out *blush*

I suppose that’s my way of dealing with it all … I don’t dwell on the details. Unfortunately, this means that I’m not giving enough details to Mike…who is a details guy! (Sorry, honey!)

On the bright side, they didn’t have to take any blood today πŸ™‚Β  And Logan was SOOOO good. (Dr. EndoTwo even said that it was the best way to end her day. πŸ™‚ )
