Friday’s Fotos: Tie Dye, Clubhouse, a Garden, and a Handsome Guy

This week was packed full!

Nanny Jessica did some tie dye shirts with the kids. They came out great!

Logan's Tie Dye (he's sick and not available to model it)

Grandpa, Nana, and Aunt Meghan came to see Burke and Maggie graduate yesterday. Maggie loves having a pixie-sized Nana (read: under 5 feet) to fit in the clubhouse 😉

We put our second garden in! Square Foot style: Artichokes, Asparagus, Onions, Potatoes, Carrots, Cucumbers, Cantaloupe, Melon, Peas, Green Beans, Yellow Beans, Lima Beans, Brussels Sprouts, Strawberries, Peppers, Tomatoes, Broccoli, Dill, Sage, Thyme, and Basil. *phew* (The frame is by Frame It All)

And last but not least, Mike had the opportunity to dress up this week. The man cleans up nicely!!

Good Night Routines

Our typical bed time routine is Burke and Maggie go into their room with Daddy for a good night story (usually a made up story that involves Lightnin’ McQueen, Cinderella, a castle, someone needing help and Maggie, Burke, and Logan saving the day. Throw in a wizard, tunnels through the mountains that get you anywhere you want to go just by walking for 5 minutes, a flying – and talking – bathtub, and various other things I can’t even begin to keep track of and you’ve got quite the story each night. Perhaps I’ll have him start to write some down…)

While that’s going on, I’m in Logan’s room with him trying to decide if he wants the Good Night Song, Twinkle Twinkle, or – most recently – the “Bear song.” (Ya…funny story. While Ms. Speech was here one day, she was asking about how his speech group was going and asking if he sang this song or that song…he answered “yes” to all of the ones she asked. She looked at me as if to say, “Is he just going to say ‘yes’ to everything?” so I asked, “Logan, did you sing the Bear song?” just to see what he’d say. He looked at me and said “no….” but then asked for the Bear song that night for a bed time song. Luckily, I could remember some words to The Teddy Bear Picnic, and that seemed to suffice.)

Then Logan tries to figure out if he wants to sleep in his bed or on the floor. (He hasn’t requested the rocking chair much since that one time I found him up-side-down.) More and more he heads for his bed. WOOT!

Then I go in to Burke and Maggie’s room to sing the Good Night Song and recently, Burke’s been requesting that I stay to sing the Lullaby song as well. Leave it to Mike to make up words to Brahms’ Lullaby (Lullaby and Good Night):

Lullaby and Good Night,
Go to sleep Burke and Maggie.
Mommy loves you,
Daddy loves you,
And Logan do-es too.

Lullaby and Good Night,
Go to sleep Burke and Maggie.
Mommy loves you,
Daddy loves you,
And Logan do-es too.

You’re honest and kind,
And you work very hard.
You’re handsome and pretty,
And both brave and smart.

(And then Burke added: And pretty cute.)

On my way out the door I hear “Good night! I love you! See you in the morning! Sleep well! I’ll love you forever!”

Makes My Monday: Community Service

Mike signed up to help with some community service through our church. They were supposed to have one day of going out into the community and helping some of the older folks of our congregation with outside cleanup. Unfortunately, the weather that day was terrible. Fortunately, there is a woman who needs help on our street. Double fortunately, that means that Mike can pass along the good-deed-doing-gene to the kids because they can go along with him and see what helping others is all about!

Kiddo Converations

While driving to Costco the other day, the following conversation happened in the car:

Burke: I see a phone tower! And look at that cloud…it looks like a bunny!

Mommy: Burke, you’re so observant, I love that you see so many things.

Burke: Logan’s good at finding tractors and trucks, but I’m the best at finding everything else.

Maggie: (while giggling) Tree! Tree! House! Tree!

Saturday Snapshot 2: Pool Time!

The weather is so nice today that we broke out the pool from last year! (unfortunately, it’s slowly leaking both water and air…good thing I already figured they’d need a new one this year.)

Friday’s Fotos: Beauty Detour

The weather was really nice at the beginning of this week, so Burke, Maggie, Logan, and I went on a Beauty Detour in the back yard. (Fishful Thinking!)

Then Logan decided to get daring on the glider swing…which, of course, he *loved* every minute of.

"Look at me!"

"Who needs a seat??"

I’m trying to take a step back and not have a heart attack every time he does something daring…but it’s so hard!! heh 🙂

Friday’s Fotos: Baseball, Freckles, and Movies

Logan loves to play baseball…I’m not sure he’s quite got the hang of it yet but he’s got the right idea! 😉

No Strike Zone Here!

No Strike Zone Here!

(He’s such a goofball though, what you don’t see here is that as soon as Mommy throws the ball – to intentionally hit the *ahem* stationary bat – Logan giggles and falls backwards onto his butt. We could do this for hours…)

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

I took the kids to see “How to Train Your Dragon” last week. Logan’s first theater movie! (Burke and Maggie’s second.) The movie had some scary parts, and the kids jumped some, but they LOVED it. (I thought it was pretty cute too 🙂 )

Burke and Logan

Maggie

(Don’t let the pictures fool you – Logan was in my lap the entire time. I took these while the previews were showing.)

Burke’s face has exploded with freckles! (I suppose I shouldn’t be too surprised…I have them on me wherever the sun shines 😉 )

Friday’s Fotos and Kiddo Conversations

The things kids say can really crack you up. And sometimes, they come up with their own special word that actually fits perfectly.

Burke

Apparently Burke has a “sneak-ret” hiding place for things. I need to try to get him to say that on video…it’s so cute!

Maggie

When we were in Vermont, Maggie had a very deep conversation with Grandpa. I wasn’t there, but I hear that the gist of it is she asked about his mom and where she was (Heaven). Normally when we talk about Heaven with her (that’s where Mike’s mom is as well), she gets very teary and starts worrying about HER mom. While talking with Grandpa, she just wanted the facts: Do you miss her? Do you still talk with her? Stuff like that. At some point the conversation turned to “There are no cell phones in Heaven.” LOL!

Logan

I was talking with Logan about playing at the park. I knew he’d run into one of our neighbors and I was asking how that went. He was all excited and told me he was playing with Audrey going around and around. So I asked if he was chasing Audrey or if Audrey was chasing him. He started talking, stopped suddenly, and then said, “I sayin’ it wrong!” (I still don’t know who was doing the chasing LOL!)

Last night, Logan wanted to sleep in the rocking chair (the night before it was the floor…), so I said sure since that’s where Burke and Maggie spent the first few many months of sleeping when we switched to big kid beds for them. Mike and I were watching TV downstairs when we heard “THUMP!” and then nothing. Logan had “switched” to the floor from the rocking chair a few nights ago as well, so I wasn’t too worried. When I went in to check on him, this is what I found.

I can't believe he's still asleep!

How did he not wake up??

Crazy kid. 🙂

The Easter Bunny Was VERY Generous

I’m finding it really hard to not spoil my kids. (I’ve written about this before…)

We got them each a “large” present for their Easter basket and then some a lot of small gifts as well. And Nana and Grandpa have gifts ready. And Aunt Sharon and Uncle Jason contribute. (Aunt Cathy does too if she heads to Vermont as well, she just happened to be out of town this year.) And they usually receive gifts from Granny Frani and cards (with cash) from Pop Pop and Mop Mop too.

Is it over-the-top? Ya, Probably. Am I okay with it? Yes, I am. For now. 🙂

We changed Logan’s crib into a toddler bed, so he needed toddler bedding! The Easter Bunny brought Mickey Mouse sheets, a pillow case, and comforter. (And the sheets have that same half-fitted top sheet!! Still genius.)

Logan's Big Boy Bed

Burke has been asking for Mac (from Disney’s Cars) to round out his collection.

Burke and Mac

And Maggie has been asking for Ruby Red Slippers.

Maggie's Ruby Red Slippers

(she can’t stop dancing LOL!)

And proof that Logan actually slept in his bed last night! (After a half hour of angry sobbing on Daddy’s lap because Mommy wouldn’t come back until he asked for me nicely….Mommy didn’t come back.)

Logan in his new bed

He woke up a little bit early this morning, so Mike went in and asked if he wanted to come into Mommy and Daddy’s room or go back to sleep. He chose to go back to sleep! (*phew*) And then when he woke up the second time, he was just sitting up in bed smiling. Here’s to hoping tonight’s bed time process goes a wee bit better…

Makes My Monday: Flowers From My Kids

We have pretty purpley-blue flowers that grow on our lawn. When we got home from Vermont today, the kids started picking them for me 🙂

(They know that flowers on the lawn are fair game since Daddy will just mow them down at some point. All other flowers are just for looking!)

Flowers from my kids (grown on our lawn!) Make My Monday 🙂
