Friday’s Foto Finish Fiesta

Candid Carrie sponsors this one – head over to her blog and find LOTS of links for bloggers who’ve joined in! (You can join in too!)

It’s amazing what a new set of curtains can do for a room.

I forgot to take a “before” picture before putting the new ones up, so I found this photo from a previous post…not a great one, but you get the idea.

Snow?

Remember all that snow we had last week?? It’s pretty much GONE. Over 20 inches of snow disappeared while we were in Vermont. The kids are heartbroken!

No More Sliced Fingers!

You may recall my Mom Of The Year post…the one where Logan sliced his thumb open on a can in the recycle bin.

We made it so that wouldn’t happen again! Mike and I ordered a trash bin/shelving unit to fit under the counter in the pantry:

I’m SO excited!! Not only because of the no more sliced fingers, but because you should have seen the stack o’ crap we had stuffed under this counter… πŸ˜‰

Weekend in Vermont – Part 1

We had an awesome time in Vermont over the weekend! We drove up on Saturday and hung out with the fam. I had thought the mosquitoes were bad in Massachusetts…but DAMN, the ones in VT almost carried the kids off! We dropped in on my little sister working at one of the local clothing stores. Too funny (and a bit strange!!) And then we went to see my younger sister’s new house. They’re building on land they bought from my Dad…and I’m. so. jealous. But, like – in that good jealous way πŸ™‚ Here’s the view from their loft-to-be.

And here’s a picture of their front steps and the retaining wall.

On Sunday, we went to Shelburn Farms. What an AWESOME place!! If you’re ever in the Burlington, VT area, I’d highly recommend looking it up.

My Camera just died, so I can’t upload any more pictures. More tomorrow!

Hot Crossed Buns

I got up to use the potty around 3:00 last night. Imagine my surprise when the toilet seat was HOT! What the..? The toilet was filled with hot (and I mean hot) water. Hot enough that there was something whistling inside the tank because of the steam escaping.

I woke Mike up and he tinkered quietly for a bit (heaven help those who wake the kids up in the middle of the night!!) After about 1/2 hour or so, we decided that it was pretty strange, turned the burner off to the hot water heater (tankless), and went to bed. This morning, there was still warm water coming out of the bathroom sink! Uhm…how’s that possible with a tankless water heater?

I called our trusty plumber (a father to twins himself) and he said he’d come out around lunch time (he lives around us, so that meant he could go home for lunch).

About 3 hours later I thought I’d try to brave a lukewarm shower and noticed that the hot water tap was turned ALL THE WAY ON. We have the type of tub/shower with 4 valves: hot, cold, tub, shower. So the water can be on, but nothing comes out. Ah HA! This explains much! A quick call to Mike to verify that he didn’t turn it on this morning (nope) and a quick call to the plumber to verify that this could cause it (yep) and we’re back in business. (Doesn’t explain the warm water 4 hours after we turned the burner off, but I’m okay with that…)

Chalk another thing up to user error. At least this time we didn’t spend millions to figure out what was wrong πŸ˜‰

Puttin’ the Swing Together

…sorta. πŸ™‚

Mike and his Pop started to put the swing set together this afternoon. The reviews of this swing set state plainly that this (and others like it) are a PAIN to put together…and yup – they’re right! It’s just a lot of pieces and, as per typical of things like this, the instructions don’t REALLY instruct. (As a technical writer, I’m appalled that things like these are allowed to go out the door!!)

The kids had a blast “sliding” across the slide. They’d scoot from one end to the other, run around and start it all over again. Pretty cute.

Unfortunately, it got REALLY hot so they had to stop before passing out. And then it started raining cats and dogs – with thunder and lightning! So we’ll have to wait until tomorrow to finish it up. Luckily Mike’s Pop will still be here, as it’s definitely a two-person job, and so is making sure the kids stay out of the way πŸ˜‰

Burke and Maggie really wanted to help…and they really wanted to swing! They were really patient throughout the day too. I kept telling them that the swing set was still cooking…which is what we say when they’re waiting for their food, and they’re pretty good about that.

Keep your fingers crossed for us that we’ll have good weather to finish up tomorrow!

Nature is Exploding!

Over the past few days, there have been various critters showing up in our back yard. Tonight we saw a big brown bunny hop from one back yard to another. (The twins ran after it and probably gave the poor thing a heart attack.)

And a (blue?) heron flew overhead – legs sprawled out impressively behind it.

Just after it, I saw a bright red cardinal. I just LOVE those πŸ™‚

We see a *FAT* squirrel all the time (feasting on the food my kids won’t touch, I’m sure.)

Yesterday, I witnessed a chipmunk disappear in the middle of our lawn and realized that he’s using an old (very deep) hole that the previous owners left when they removed the ham radio antenna poles.

And I took these photos from my front porch yesterday. The falcon sat on our fence for quite some time!

It’s not like having coyotes in your back yard in Vermont – but hey! it’s nature – and I’ll take it! πŸ™‚

Yard With a View

Front Yard

The festivities in town are less than two miles away at the local high school. Therefore, Mike and I put the kids to bed, had some dinner and then stepped out onto our front steps to watch the fireworks. My (cool) camera has a “Fireworks” setting! This is the first time I’ve used it…not *the* best pictures, but the following were taken from our steps last night.

Back Yard

Mike took today off from work (WOO HOO!) and we played in the back yard pretty much all day with the kids. We hit church this morning (it’s just not the same with no one working in the nursery!!) and then came home to the pool and fun in the sun. A good day was had by all *grin*

Fun Food on the 4th

Mike Grilled up some *really* tasty stuff: Steak, ribs, hotdogs, kielbasa, potatoes, peppers, onions, and zucchini. And we made some corn as well. The pan fried version of it all was darn good last night too. On the 4th, we also had watermelon…Burke’s 1st piece was almost as big as him! πŸ™‚ (yes, he had more than one…and then more for breakfast yesterday!!)

Maggie enjoyed it too.
