As you saw in yesterday’s post, we hit a Halloween party yesterday. And today was our town’s Horribles Parade. (Have I mentioned that I love our town? 🙂 ) Between the two, the kids have had so much fun – without any candy!!
Twins Club Halloween Party
Town Horribles Parade
After the Parade
When the parade was over, instead of waiting in line for the candy that the kids didn’t need, we stopped at the park to play in the leaves.

So, Halloween isn’t really a kid-friendly holiday, huh? I mean…let’s dress up and scare the crap out of them…after hyping them up with so much candy you can’t actually tell if they’re shaking from the sugar or because they’re freaked out. Nice.
We have some decorations up … and the typical shows the kids watch have been doing the Halloween themed stuff lately (ghosts, monsters, bats, etc). I didn’t *really* think anything of it until a few nights ago when Logan woke up – twice…literally shaking in his crib. Poor kid.
Apparently, I accidentally moved his clock just right so that it was casting new shadows (HIS shadows) on the wall … and it was totally freaking him out. I went in and he was pointing to the wall and shaking and crying. I felt so bad for him! I asked if he was scared, and with big tears in his eyes he nodded and said “Scared!” So I asked if he wanted to use the Monster Spray. He nodded. I turned to head out the door to get it and he totally freaked again…I had to take him with me to get the Monster Spray! That calmed him down for about 15 minutes – tops. . . when I had to go in again and spray one more time.
We ended up moving his night light (it hadn’t occurred to me at that point that it was his clock), and he slept through the rest of the night…but geez. Poor kid.

…because it was supposed to be! 🙂
Our town had its annual Horribles Parade yesterday. Apparently, they’ve had over 40 of them…I find that pretty cool, and it makes me love our new town that much more.
Anyway…we all lined up behind the fire truck. And when I say “we all” I mean, pretty much all of the kids and their parents in the town!! Or at least, it seemed like it.
All of the kids (and some adults) dressed up to march from the fire house to the high school (about 1/2 mile maybe?). There were a *lot* of really cool costumes.
As you can see, since pretty much everyone was in the parade, there were not a lot of spectators. I think I saw a total of 10 people watching…
Maggie insisted on walking down the yellow line. And she walked with her skirt in her hand – very princess-like.
Logan didn’t have a nap at all yesterday, but was – again – a very good little guy. He was just taking in the sights along the way.
When we reached the high school, we asked the fire men if it would be okay to take a picture of Burke in front of the fire truck.
Oh, and before we left for the parade, I just couldn’t resist this shot…

My mention of the twin mommy one street over got a few “wow” comments – I’m guessing from non-Massachusetts people. 🙂
I think I’ve gotten over the “wow” factor for a few reasons…before I moved to my current town, I lived on a street where there was another twin mommy two doors down. She’s the one who actually introduced me to the twin club I’m in now. (THANK YOU JOHANNA!!) Her boy/girl twins are about a year older than mine, and we had a good time being down the street. Sad to say that we BOTH moved away from there right around the time play dates would have been really fun for us all. Ah well.
In my new town, we see double strollers all the time. I run into other twin mommies (some I know, some I just stalk) at the grocery store, at school, at Burke’s speech class, walking down the street. In my club, there are 3 twin moms who live within 3 blocks of me – and that doesn’t include the one we saw walking the other day!
The other reason is – and I know I’ve mentioned this before – I’m the Membership Chair for my twin club. Our club services the Greater Boston area and has more than 250 members. Yes: *250* members. The wow factor for me is that our club is not the only one in the area, and I’m pretty sure it’s not the largest!
Now – don’t get me wrong…just because the “wow” factor isn’t as it was for me, does not mean that I’m not super excited to stalk meet new twin moms and know that they live just around the corner. I love knowing that there are so many out there who just “get it” – I’m a firm believer that you can always learn something new from anyone and everyone. I’m also a firm believer in passing along information that may have helped me when I went through the same thing – usually only when I’m asked though 😉
The thing that DOES wow me? 50 sets of twins in one place. Yup: *50!* My twins club had a Halloween party yesterday and the kids had a lot of fun. I got some “crowd shots” – but they totally don’t do justice to the situation, so I’m not even going to bother posting them. My kids were *ahem* angels, of course.
Maggie wouldn’t get out of the bouncy house.
Burke fell in love with the police car Cozy Coup (even though we have a red one at home).
And he wouldn’t let anyone else use it. Well…he got really upset when we, ah, requested that he let someone else. (It did kind of match his outfit…)
We were able to distract him with the Bouncy House though.
Logan was his typical self…even though it was his nap time.
There was a parade at the very end, but our kids created their own when we first got there.
There was a kids’ music band that played for the second half of the party. Logan seemed to enjoy it. Or at least, he enjoyed his juice while watching…

Laura at Catholic Teacher Musings hosts a Bad Haiku every Friday, but this Friday is Yuktoberfest, so how could I resist? (just keep in mind that it’s SUPPOSED to be bad…even though I couldn’t really make it good if I tried.)
To entertain you:
Halloween, Zimmer Zoo style
in bad Haiku form
Scarier than ghosts,
Crazier than five goblins,
I have three children.
We tried for a theme:
a cheerleader, a football,
a football player.
We thought it’d be great
(It’s much harder than you’d think)
They have their own minds.
Of all the costumes
my little girl can think of,
Maggie’s a princess.
We searched through the store,
Daddy saw it before son,
Burke’s a Fire Man
It wasn’t his choice;
Because it’s Mom’s favorite,
Logan’s a Tiger
