Fishful Thinking: Fishful …Sleeping?

I’ve been having a hard time falling to sleep lately. And once I finally do, someone in the house usually wakes up … which means that I’m up again. As I was browsing through the Fishful Thinking site the other day, I came across an article on Relaxation Techniques.

Relaxation techniques often can help people with sleep problems get a good night’s sleep. Several relaxation techniques are listed [on the site].

  • Progressive Relaxation
  • Toe Tensing
  • Deep Breathing
  • Guided Imagery
  • Quiet Ears

The funny thing is, I’ve tried most of these! I totally remember my Mom using Progressive Relaxation with me. (And, remembering that it felt silly at the time *grin* – Sorry Mom!!) It’s great to have this resource as a reminder of things that have worked in the past, and as a toolbox full of ideas that I haven’t tried yet (like Quiet Ears).

And then I found the Controlled Breathing exercise to go along with it.

Relaxation strategies, like controlled breathing, can help you manage stress, create a sense of calm, and increase your overall resilience. The more you practice relaxation strategies, the more effective they will become. They’re great for the whole family and can be easily incorporated into bedtime routines.

Now, I realize that while these will help me to relax and even fall to sleep, they won’t help with the interrupted sleep … unless I can get them to work on the kids as well! Wish me luck 🙂

The Madness of an Uncle Jason Visit

Uncle Jason, Aunt Sharon, and cousins Grey and Petra are visiting!

Uncle Jason has enough energy to entertain 5 kids for….quite some time 😉

Saturday Snapshot: Critters

Logan attended a birthday party today where the Critter Guy was the entertainment. He got to pet a whole bunch of cool things (including a skunk named Double-Stuff!) but the best part was HOLDING the alligator.

My First Field Trip!

(As a mom-chaperone, anyway 😉 )

I went with Maggie’s class to a local tavern-turned-museum. We got to ride the bus and everything! 🙂

Maggie Playing a Colonial-Time Game

Spring Kindergarten Concerts

Burke and Maggie had their Spring Concerts yesterday. Holy super cute!! I’ll try to get my act together and post the video, but right now all I’ve got are photos 🙂

Maggie

(Yes, she was that happy through the whole thing…but she did know all the words!)
.

Burke

(He did look happier, but I wasn’t able to get a clear shot…and he knew all the words too.)

Who Told??

Someone must have told the members of my town’s Mom’s group that I have a hard time saying “no.” …they’ve just asked if I would think about being president next year.

On one hand I’m totally flattered – the email asking was really nice and said my name came up a few times. That I’m organized, friendly, and an all round rock star Mom…all stuff to make me blush. LOL! The subject line said board member, so I was thinking, you know…secretary, treasurer…something like that. Nope.

On the other hand, I’m really not that active with the group – I do know some members outside of the club activities, but not many – so it’s pretty surprising that they’d ask. (They must be pretty desperate 😉 )

I’ve been wanting to get more involved with this club, and this might be a good way to do it, but talk about jumping in the deep end!

PLUS, there are all of those other things I’m already committed to through next year: full-time job, president of my twins club (including planning a convention), treasurer of the elementary school parent’s group, Fishful Thinking Faculty…oh ya, and like have time for my family!

I haven’t made a decision yet – I need more information about the position first, but I figured I’d ponder it all out where I normally do…right here! 🙂

…stay tuned…

Higgins 1; Burke 0

(oh, and Higgins 1; Fence 0 – the neighbors found Higgins in their yard this afternoon. I’m hoping that it’s because he found a weak spot…but I suspect he just bounded over. ACK!)

Makes My Monday: Fenway Park!!

Uncle Jim is in Town

(Aunt Lynn is here too!)
