The twins are in pre-school right now, and we’ve just received the pre-registration for next year. (Seriously? I have no idea what we’re doing next month let alone next year ๐ )
And of course, there’s a dilemma. (when is there not? ๐ )
They recommend a T,W,TH class.ย Right now the kids are in school M,W,F – which works for us because Mike’s with them on Mondays and I work from home on W,F which means I can shuttle them around then. (Are you sensing the problem now? ๐ )
How on earth do families with both parents working full-time get their kids to and from school??
They do offer a class that is age-appropriate M,W,F – but it’s fewer hours (bonus: also less $$)…I’m also guessing that most of their class this year will be going to this recommended session. What I need to find out is if this session is recommended because they’ve been at the school for a year, or for some other reason…and if there’s any reason they shouldn’t be in the other session.
I *might* be able to swing something with work to make it so that they can do the recommended session, but I’m not sure. It would also mean requesting different hours for my nanny when the fall comes around.
What would you do? Do I do everything I can to ensure that my kids get the most out of school? Do a few hours less make THAT much of a difference? Is it a huge thing to be in a classroom with kids you’re used to at this age? Is it a huge thing to be in a classroom full of kids who may not have had any pre-school experience before?
Too many decisions!

My own experience with working and getting kids to school is to request hours those days to come in late. I’ve been lucky (extremely, I know this) that my work allows me to do this.
You hit a lot of questions, but I’ll add one more…will Burke and Maggie be ready to go to school three days in a row? The MWF set up seems to work better for preschoolers because they have a day off from the set schedule, but that’s just from my personal experience.
Kids adapt easily to making new friends (and isn’t preschool mostly about that?? Socializing?) I think you do what works best for your entire family, and the kids will be okay.
One last thing…preschool is just as much for you as for them. It shouldn’t cause so much stress. ๐
For our two, we had a recommendation of “more” hours/days because one of our twins (who shall remain nameless ๐ ) was getting too “out of routine” with the school day when having the breaks between. The school only made the recommendation however as our twosome were heading to kindergarten the following year, which here in Richmond is all-day, 9-3. They needed a “segue” to ease into the idea. It did work well. BUT, do be open with the preschool (and your work) about your concerns and questions. It WILL work out! ๐
Happy New Year!
See, just these two replies show that each kid is different. lol.
I was wondering the same thing! We got the same recommended class, and I wondered why it wasn’t the MWF class.
I’m considering the TWTh class, because of the extended day on Weds (our town has full day K, so it will be a good preparation for my boys. I don’t know if you have full day K, though.)
But the extra cost is an issue…
Oh, decisions, decisions….
I don’t think your kids will suffer for meeting new kids and keeping the schedule that works for you. I’m hoping when my time comes that my nanny takes the kids b/c no way we can do drop-off/pick-up. Just means buying extra car seats…
Keep on asking quesstions, then do what works best for your family.
It’s all just going to fall into place…
Wow! that’s rough. I am sorry to say i will be of no help what-so-ever.
