My mention of the twin mommy one street over got a few “wow” comments – I’m guessing from non-Massachusetts people. đ
I think I’ve gotten over the “wow” factor for a few reasons…before I moved to my current town, I lived on a street where there was another twin mommy two doors down. She’s the one who actually introduced me to the twin club I’m in now. (THANK YOU JOHANNA!!) Her boy/girl twins are about a year older than mine, and we had a good time being down the street. Sad to say that we BOTH moved away from there right around the time play dates would have been really fun for us all. Ah well.
In my new town, we see double strollers all the time. I run into other twin mommies (some I know, some I just stalk) at the grocery store, at school, at Burke’s speech class, walking down the street. In my club, there are 3 twin moms who live within 3 blocks of me – and that doesn’t include the one we saw walking the other day!
The other reason is – and I know I’ve mentioned this before – I’m the Membership Chair for my twin club. Our club services the Greater Boston area and has more than 250 members. Yes: *250* members. The wow factor for me is that our club is not the only one in the area, and I’m pretty sure it’s not the largest!
Now – don’t get me wrong…just because the “wow” factor isn’t as it was for me, does not mean that I’m not super excited to stalk meet new twin moms and know that they live just around the corner. I love knowing that there are so many out there who just “get it” – I’m a firm believer that you can always learn something new from anyone and everyone. I’m also a firm believer in passing along information that may have helped me when I went through the same thing – usually only when I’m asked though đ
The thing that DOES wow me? 50 sets of twins in one place. Yup: *50!* My twins club had a Halloween party yesterday and the kids had a lot of fun. I got some “crowd shots” – but they totally don’t do justice to the situation, so I’m not even going to bother posting them. My kids were *ahem* angels, of course.
Maggie wouldn’t get out of the bouncy house.
Burke fell in love with the police car Cozy Coup (even though we have a red one at home).
And he wouldn’t let anyone else use it. Well…he got really upset when we, ah, requested that he let someone else. (It did kind of match his outfit…)
We were able to distract him with the Bouncy House though.
Logan was his typical self…even though it was his nap time.
There was a parade at the very end, but our kids created their own when we first got there.
There was a kids’ music band that played for the second half of the party. Logan seemed to enjoy it. Or at least, he enjoyed his juice while watching…

Wow! That is a lot of twins. I do seem to see a lot more twins than I used to.
Cool pictures! Looks like they had lots of fun!
Looks like the kids had a great time! cute costumes and pictures. I came across some stats a few months back that MA has some of the highest twin rates in the country. A 1999 study found that rates in these states were at least 25% higher than the national rate in the United States and for the years 2003- 2005, twins accounted for more than 4 percent of all births (more than 40 per 1,000 in MA. Apparently there’s something special in your drinking water down there;)
What cuties they are! And I feel ya about the twins. We bought our house from a family with twins, then had twins ourselves two years later!
Something in the water maybe – all the twins? The party looks like fun and Logan is the cutest little kid.
I’m sorry I missed the party! We had a house full of fever this weekend, sadly…
Hi Nancy — just saw your comment on my blog. I totally recognize you and your kids from the party! Sorry we didn’t have the chance to meet, but I was a bit zombie-like anyway, so maybe it’s for the best.
I actually recognized and met (for the first time) one of my fave bloggers, Snickollet. Our MOT club is blog-o-rific. We should have some kind of girls night out for all the twin mom bloggers. I’d love to meet you and the folks at “How do you do it?”
