Yup. I’m one step away from that whole soccer mom thing. *sigh*
I went to my first PTO meeting last night. (Why is it PTO in one town and PTA in another??) Anyway, it ranged from very organized to seemingly fairly disorganized. The women who run it have obviously been doing it for quite some time (they must have had older kids to go through the preschool as well). And one of the co-chairs (there are 4 or 5) was very good about recognizing that there were about 1/2 of us there who hadn’t been there before and had no idea what they were talking about for some things. Like…what a “calendar raffle” is. (And no, they aren’t raffling off calendars. Strange, huh?)
At one point they were chatting about whether we’d need another meeting or not, and how to communicate that so and so was calling this place to figure out that and no one else would need to, etc….so I asked if they thought a Yahoo Group might work well. Holy technology terror crossing some faces. But the nice mommy got pretty excited, and thought it was a great idea and is going to get my help to put it together. It’s funny because I was pretty sure I recognized her name, so when she said she belonged to another Yahoo Group, I said “Uhm, do you have twins..? Are you on the mom’s of twins yahoo group?” Her eyes got a little wide and she said, “Yes! I am!” So, I introduced myself and she recognized my name (I tend to, ah, post *a lot* over there…so my name is all over that group).
At this point, one of the OTHER co-chairs asked “Are you Burke and Maggie’s mom?” uhm…ut oh. “Yup! That’s me!” Apparently her son is in their class and talks about them all the time. (She was still smiling, so it must not have been too bad π ) I guess the whole twin thing tickles him π
So now I’m thinking…Why don’t my kids ever really talk about their friends? I mean, they talk about “friends” and playing with “friends” and seeing “friends” at school – but there aren’t a lot of names thrown around. Sure, they know names if I ask “Did you play with so-and-so today?” …but I don’t know the names of all the kids in their class. And when we were leaving one afternoon, they saw a playmate in his car and said “Say bye bye to Stanly*!”
Perhaps it’s just that they’re just as bad as I am about remembering names. Poor kids.

Our school doesn’t even have PTA or PTO or any variation of it. Isn’t that sad? Yes…we’re not impressed so far.
We have the SAME thing! Kids holler at our kids, but rarely do they mention their friends…they are doing so a bit more now (1st grade) but I’m right there with you!
As soon as we got the minivan, I knew I’d slid to the bottom of that slippery slope…soccer or not!
Yeah, why is it PTO? I like the sound of PTA better.
And my guys are very informative about their friend. I get a complete run down on a daily basis. Maybe when your kids a little older you’ll get more of the inside scoop.
Yea they should keep it PTA. When I first saw PTO I thought that acronym sounded familiar, it’s what we use to use at work for vacation time. PTO=Paid Time Off. LOL There should be some kind of rule that an acronym can only have one meaning!
I thinks ours is just called Parent’s Cub and i say this because I am a horrible mommy and I don’t go…
although I have been informed that because i am “room mom” this year that i have to attend. LOL
I have nieces who are identical twins and for so long they were like little celebraties in their school. They were the ones talked about.
I imagine this could be the same with yours.
Kinda fun, right?
