The Story of Us – Meeting

This is part one – The Meeting – stay tuned for the other parts!

Mike and I actually met online. Yup. One of those online dating sites. Kind of a fluke for both of us (and I think a pretty intoxicated Mike…) since neither one of us really expected it to work. We started instant messaging first and chatted on the phone for a little while before deciding to meet. When we finally set a date up, I got really sick and had to cancel it. Mike sounded so gruff on the phone that I thought I’d blown all chances with him – he’d never call me again! But, as I found out later, Mike’s not really a phone person – especially when you interrupt him at work! Obviously, we got over that one cancellation and met up a little bit later.

Our first date was at a local mall where we met at a Friday’s for dinner and had plans for a movie (The Rookie). Dinner was great – he was really easy to talk with and a lot of fun too. My kind of humor (well, a little more over the top than mine, but really close πŸ˜‰ ) We had some time to kill so we wandered through the mall a bit…which turned out to be really fun too! I remember going into one of those poster stores and doing the “Ferris Bueller” thing in there. Goof ball. πŸ™‚

To make a short story long, Mike proposed 3 months later. Yep. 3 months. He had just met my family at a Red Sox game a few days before. It was late at night and I don’t think he meant to. I mean – he knew he wanted to ask me, but I don’t think he meant to ask that night. No ring or anything. (I was WAY okay with that – it was actually pretty cool to go ring shopping together πŸ™‚ ) We decided on a long engagement to put our families’ minds at ease and settled for the following September – 15 months away. (Turns out that we didn’t really need to wait that long…but oh well!)

Head on over to the next chapter
