Fire Alarm Testing

This, coupled with my Bread post, is sure to put me on some watch list somewhere. (I’m hoping people realize that if I was really contemplating doing any of these things, I probably wouldn’t be foolish enough to WRITE about it.) I just can’t help THINKING about such things…and how, if *I’M* thinking of them, other – more evil – people might be too. Yep. I scare myself while thinking of the worst possible scenarios that could happen. *sigh*

Anyway…we’re having the fire alarms tested in our building at work today. We got an email yesterday stating plainly that they are being tested and to ignore the alarms when they go off. Now, if I were a (mentally disturbed) pissed off employee, might I take this time to ACTUALLY set a fire somewhere in the building..? It just makes me nervous that it’s announced so far in advance…that’s all. If I smell smoke, I’m running!!

  1. Oh dear. See, now this would never have occurred to me, but now that you’ve said it, I’m all worried. Like, what if someone did something like this at school, when they were testing the fire alarms? Do they test the fire alarms at school while the kids are there?

Can you tell that I’m still not entirely comfortable with the whole public school thing?

  2. That is a bit disturbing, and seems like a good plot device rather than a real-life event.

And Heather, don’t worry, there were no tests like this in any of the public schools I’ve worked in. If an alarm went off, everyone had to leave the school until the fire department came and gave the all-clear. Even when it was the middle of the winter and absolutely FRIGID and I was worried we’d all freeze to death.

So they really do take the alarms seriously in the schools.

  3. Oh Nancy, this SOOO reminded me of the movie “Office Space”….now where is my red stapler? 😉
